Ive switched to watercolors to try and "simplify" my art. I find I get caught up in the details trying to create something when I need to learn the tricks to make it look like something with little effort. Lessons like this are helping.

It’s a Matthew palmer fantastic brush

This is so great - simple technique used to great effect. Of course I know mine wouldn't look as good since I'm still developing my "art eye" as well as my art eye-hand coordination (like where to stipple for best shadow effect) but this looks like a great exercise to practice!

What kind of paints are you using? I tried this but my black wasn't as black and when I mixed the two colors on my brush they just blended together. I love this and want to duplicate it very much!

@@mattyartist Would you say I need to use watercolour paints from a tube to make this work? I'm still on a pallet (Newton & Windsor Cotman).

Can I ask if painting and drawing comes naturally, or born with such a gift to paint? I only ask cause people are learning how to paint sing and play instruments on you tube and are getting quite great along with spray painting (my fav) but, my lungs prevent me from getting better or at least good. I love it, but my allergies and lungs no good. I love love to mix and textures and I use anything but brushes or I found a few makeup brushes ...

It comes naturally for some - but I’ve been teaching for 25 years and know for sure anyone and everyone can paint! If you have the right tuition - like following a recipe-- give it a go and happy painting

She's doing a wet on dry for all the layers except the last one; that is wet on wet because the paint is still wet from the first layer.
