This special version of Van Halen's "Dreams" was filmed in March 1993 at the famed Whisky a Go-Go to celebrate their 15-year anniversary. It followed on the heels of the February 1993 release of their first live album "Live: Right Here, Right Now". They hadn't played the Whisky since 1978.

"Putting the show together to celebrate 25 years of Van Halen, we wanted to do something that would whip up a frenzy so we decided to do it at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, one of the places where it all began for us. We figured we would play a show, keep it a secret, and anybody walking by on the strip that night could come in and there we would be up on stage. Then the club decided to put our name up on the marquee and that’s when the chaos started, thousands of fans in the street on the Sunset strip, looking for tickets to get into the show. They announced that they could get tickets down the street at a venue called the Palladium, and I remember us watching the news from a hotel room that we were at, thousands of fans, running down the street, Sunset Boulevard, to get to those tickets, it was fucking great!! They shut us down after only a few songs, but it turned out to be an amazing show. 'Live: Right Here, Right Now' was the second live album that we put out and at that point the band was firing on all cylinders, we were most definitely at the peak of what Van Halen was, and would ever be!! Watching it 30 years later, I think if we were still together today, no other band out there would be able to come close to how we were throwing it down!! I was there Sammy! Loved every second of it. So here’s a story about the show in case anyone’s interested. At the time I’m working for a children’s entertainment company, (yes, you read that correctly ) and we’re doing a deal with Lou Adler, owner of the whiskey. It is the day of the show and we have the radio on at the office and they’re announcing on KLOS how the concert has been canceled. So Lou says, and I’m paraphrasing, “excuse me, I own the whiskey and we’re not canceling the show”. I am lucky enough to be put on the guest list for that night. So I show up at the venue, pass by over 1,000 people in line, get some bad looks as you can imagine, and security stops me asking me to see my tickets. I tell them I don’t have any tickets, I’m on the guest list, to which they say “ooooh ooohh Mr. Vip OK let’s see it!” I walk up and pray my name is actually on the list, and it was! 😅 So security says, “oh, all right, enjoy the show!” And before you know it, I’m standing 10 feet in front of Eddie Van Halen, playing the solo to “judgment day”. Unreal.

Sammy said the truth. There was no riot and never was going to be one. We used to just have fun. I was a senior in high school at the time and today I don't feel like I live on the same planet. I am just glad I got to experience those days.

same, I was partying to the Red Rocker before he joined VH. There were a few vocalists in the running after The Split with Dave, who was great, huge respect for those times, I didn't know what was going to happen but, on came Sammy and killed it,

When Van Halen was on top of the world… Those were great times and with inspirational energy that I’ve not experienced since. Seeing them live vs. listening to studio recordings was like the difference between a picture of the Niagara Falls and being at the Niagara Falls in a boat a few yards away.

VanHagar was the absolute best version of Vanhalen. Sammy has a fantastic voice.

Good but nope, the best songs Halen had were when Dave fronted the band, I like Sammy as well but Van Halen was alot heavier when Dave fronted them, and the songs were better. My opinion anyway. I respect yours, as well.

I think it’s safe to say Van Halen was in their prime at that time. Sammy was far more engaging with the crowd and musically he kept Van Halen on top of their game.Michael Anthony was the most loyal guy in the band.I just wish both brothers saw that.

Comparing Sammy and Dave is like comparing Michaelangelo to a kid playing with Lego’s.
Sammy mentioned playing the Whiskey and the concert in the "Dallas Alley" were the craziest. I was at the free Dallas West End concert. I was in 8th grade and skipped school to go with my older brother to go to that show. Crazy is an understatement.
