THIS is the side of DT no one mentions or suggests. Sadly all the people who don't like DT that are over critical of the band who believe they are just a "wankfest", don't know or care to know about all their songs where they _hold back_ on the instrument virtuosity, yet use their "chops" to create a more melancholic mood to match the subject matter. It's just another part of Dream Theater that I have enjoyed since WDADU (in particular on that album, _within_ the songs to change the mood), especially from Images & Words, on. Other songs that are like that; "Wait for sleep", "Another Day", "Surrounded", "Eve", "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream" (which I liken to Rush - "Mystic Rhythms"), "To Live Forever", "Anna Lee", "Hollow Years", "Take Away the Pain", "Beyond this Life", "Through Her Eyes", "The Spirit Carries On", "Disappear", "Goodnight Kiss", "Solitary Shell" and on . . . .

The Twelve Step Suite consists of 5 songs from different albums creating an album within five albums. One song from each of five different albums combined to make a "sub-album" dealing with Mike Portnoy's issues with addiction. Powerful album on its own. Also great idea to stick with studio songs from Dream Theater, IMO James Labrie has a great voice when he actually sings, but live he tends to fall into a pattern of yelling and screaming random vowels instead of singing the actual lyrics - it can get tremendously annoying.

Just found your channel and have been watching ur vids all damn night long. Great reactions to some awesome music. I love to see reactions from people who have not heard music outside of their experience. Having said that, I do have a huge request...a song I have asked others to react to with no response, but I'll keep trying. The song is called "Last Chance" and the band is Shooting Star. This epic is from 1980 by a band from Kansas City, Mo that should have made it much bigger, but was overshadowed by bands like Kansas and Triumph with similar sounds. This song is probably the most epic sounding jam that just builds and builds all the way to the finish. It's roughly about the story of Moses, but not in a straightforward kind of way. With strong lyrics, big drums and a gigantic ending, it will leave you standing and calling for more! You just gotta trust me on this one, it is one of the most powerful songs EVER!!!! I'm 10 years older than you and grew up on classic rock and singer-song writer music in the 70's, than went heavy metal and head banger in the 80's and 90's. Now I'm all about the reggae with the new west coast sound hittin' me hard. As such, I'm out of my realm on rap and hip hop. I'd like to ask you to turn a rock guy on to a few suggestions I can check out myself if you would like to hit me with somethings. Peace and music to you!

Hey dude ! I read quite a few comments here But I didn't see any answers to your questions ... and as a 30+ year fan of Dream Theater I'm going to do my best to help you out. First off the sounds of the "ambulance" lol ... or the siren were all done by the keyboard player. Anything that isn't drums bass or guitar is taken care of by the keyboard player and quite often he will play with heavy almost guitar like sounds. Plus his solos are as good (or better) as the guitar player !! He's a Juliard trained virtuoso Jordan Rudess he's better than all the other four in the band combined !! No joke If you study the band a little bit deeper you will understand that they are all very studied musicians who went to school for music. Pretty much the best of the best and that's why they are fucking amazing. I am a musician have been playing for 35 years. I have been preaching this band since before they were Dream Theater Scream to all of my musician friends and friends about how killer writers and players they are !! Welcome to the world with the band Dream Theater Enjoy!! Oh and just so you know I paused your second video just to write you this reply !!!! cheers from Canada man 💪🏻🇨🇦🎶

I love the reaction, the music still blows my mind as a long time dream theater fan. My only gripe is your commentary during videos. There are things going on here as a musician myself, I am constantly figuring out. If I made videos like this, I'd listen completely then give my commentary.

I think the fact they reproduce each and everything they compose in a live show makes them truly fun to watch. great reaction! I had the same back in 1991

You should react to the band Bad Religion. They’re called the “Godfathers of SoCal Punk.” They’ve been around since 1980 and they still put out records to this day. I know you don’t normally react to punk bands, but they have really good vocals and thought provoking lyrics. A few songs by them that I would recommend starting out on would be Sorrow, Generator, Kyoto Now, or also pretty much anything from the album Stranger Than Fiction. I think you would appreciate what they do. Keep doing what you do!🤘

I came in at Images and Words. Followed them till Mike left. I've found that their albums increased in story telling and instrumental expression along the way. I enjoyed them more back when they were more orchestral. But I think above all, the thing I find the most fascinating is what their name means Jamel, thanks for taking them for a spin. I enjoyed watching

greeting from Italy, i like a lot yours reaction... Imho Dream theater are the best musician now because they are capable to merge deep lyrics with a message (spirit carries on, illumination theory), telling stories (metropolis part 2 it is a whole jurney) with an incredible music tecnique... plz do more DT reactions (but not the too known one like panic attack, winther and other that only shallow fans will suggest to you, shallow not as an offence just that do not know in deep DT xD)

Hey brother! Recently discovered your channel. Enjoying seeing you discover new music, especially Rush, Iron maiden, and Dream Theater. Apologies if I mention anything you have already reacted to... I am just starting to work through your older videos. A few songs I would recommend are RUSH: Natural Science, Hemispheres, and La Villa Stangietto (instrumental). Iron Maiden: Phantom of the Opera and Rime of the Ancient Mainer (preferable from the Live After Death album), and Dream Theater: A Change of Seasons (This is to Dream Theater what 2112 is to RUSH), Learning to Live, Breaking All Illusions, and Stream of Consciousness (instrumental). Based on your reactions to those three bands I think you would appreciate the bands: Savatage, Redemption, and Queensryche.
