Specifically, its about Hamlet from his point of view. At the very end, singing under the music is the Hamlet line "Oh that this too, too solid flesh would melt”, and then it ends aburptly, just like Hamlet's life.

As far as the abrupt ending goes this the explanation from Mike Portnoy When asked about the abrupt ending while at a drum clinic in Atlanta in 1999, Mike Portnoy explained "We had all this tension, and it just kept building and building, and we had no idea where to take it, you know? So we decided to just pull the plug on it, like The Beatles did with 'She's So Heavy'." Thanks so much for this reaction Jamel, loved it!

I respect your intent of compliment - however, none of the members of Dream Theater from this time period even have a college degree. John Myung and John Petrucci attended Berklee and met drummer Mike Portnoy there. They all dropped out their first year to become a professional band. They've devoted their time to that reality ever since and continue to create awe-inspiring music to this day. So, this is what happens when Professionals get together and create music. This devotion of time is what allows for the proper atmosphere to create progressive music. Fortunately, they got mainstream success, so that creativity can flourish... And we all can enjoy their creations! 🌎✌️🌱🎶

The Rush photo you have on the wall is fitting since Dream Theater were HUGE Rush fans especially of their earlier work. DT is a great band!

I remember when my uncle introduced me to this album and the band. It was like a whole new dimension in music. It blew my mind. I didn't see a react video to "Take the Time" and you should definitely check that song out if you haven't, already.

Dream Theater were huge Rush fans when they formed the band as Majesty in 1985 in college... their debut album as Dream Theater in 1989 "When dream & day unite" was very much in the vein of early Rush... They weren't given a chance to tour w/ that record. It wasn't until 1992 that they began touring & 'Pull me under' gave the band an unexpected hit on radio... then MTV, their first record w/ singer James LaBrie...and by 1993, they had a gold-selling album and a global fanbase.

This band is GREAT in concert, I have seen them in concert several times and I have also met them (secondary lineup - post Mike Portnoy). Mike Portnoy is the original founder member and drummer. If you roll back on some KZread videos and where they get top drummers from around the world to interview & perform with them, eventually picking out their current drummer. One of my favorite bands of all time!! Incredible and humble human beings!

VERY good call not pausing that one, Jam. There are layers upon layers of tracks in there to pick out and enjoy and one leads right into the next. Images and Words was the ultimate rock-prog CD when it came out. I remember seeing this video on MTV late night and it blew my mind - especially seeing a 6-string bass for the first time alongside Petrucci shredding his ass off. (WHEW!)

Dream Theater is arguably the most talented group of Musicians ever assembled. Much like Rush, guitar and bass player were childhood friends, added drummer while at Berkelee school of music. The three of them left school to form a band that would eventually become Dream Theater. My favorite tracks are Metropolis pt 1 and 2, the Count of Tuscany ( last song with original drummer) and Under a Glass Moon. Great reaction, you will really like a Dream Theater. Rush is their biggest influence

We haven't heard a band this good seems like forever. This song set the radio on fire when it came out. No one would have believed that it would be their only hit song. Such a strange thing that the more virtuosic the band and music, the less likely they will be popular. Prior to the 20th century, the opposite was true.

Hello Jemel. Just watched this video. Due to your appreciation of Pink Floyd, and especially of Rush, I just knew it was only a matter of time before you found Dream Theater. Specifically this album, this song. It's so great you like/appreciate this. That said, if no one has yet suggested to you, I implore you to check out the debut album from Zebra. In particular the epic song "Who's behind the door". Believe me, you will love it. 🤘

This is the band that broke the prog metal scene... Many bands around this time especially in Detroit area were experimenting with this prog metal thing... most notably Never Say Never. This was a very special time in music. 50 years from now maybe the world will recognize this music for what it is... THE PINNACLE of ROCK GENIUS!!!

AWESOME!! You Finally found one of my top 5 songs, of all time! This song has so many layers... Musically, lyrically...if it's too loud, you're too old! Dream Theater are such great storytellers and their catalog is full of great stories. Their greatest gift is playing outside of traditional 4/4...gives them the ability to weave in and out of varied lyrical phrases. "Masterpiece" is right!!

The drummer and the guitarist from this album are also in another band with with their current keyboardist, Jordan Ruddess, and bassist/stick player Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) called Liquid Tension Experiment. You should check out "Acid Rain". It will truly blow your mind. These guys (Dream Theater) do take a lot of influence from Rush, Yes, King Crimson, and the Dixie Dregs. So you're not just imagining it.
