Massive track in their discography. One of the all-time great Prog metal tracks. 🤘🏼

This was my first Dream Theater song too. I was in high school and played guitar (mostly Metallica songs) and one day a buddy of mine was like, "Bro if you like guitar solos then you gotta check this out." He gave me this album and when I heard that double base drumming in the opening I realized that Lars is a shitty drummer. Then I heard Petrucci play those arpeggios and I realized that Kirk is a mediocre guitar player. The level of musicianship blew me away and I changed my guitar playing focus from learning Metallica, to learning Dream Theater songs.

Me too, though graduating in 1997 this was a bit after high school for me. But I switched to playing Dream Theater parts too... Which is why I don't play out anywhere now and only play at home to backing tracks. LOL.

Lars was a great drummer, and Kirk was a great guitarist. Just cause there are people who exist that are better doesn't make the other people bad or mediocre. Mike has literally cited Lars at one of his bigger influences. What a lame ass take, I guess anyone who can't play fast arpeggios is a mediocre player? Lmao, that's a laughable shit take. I seriously doubt the guys in the band would want you disparaging members of another band for their sake. You're the worst kind of prog metal fan. Always on your high horse

One of my favourite DT songs! The musicianship in this song is insane how in sync they all are together. So good! \m/

I haven't listened to this is a long time.....now I have to revisit the whole album. Thanks guys! This is such a great album. Scenes from a Memory, Train of Though (the most straight forward metal DT album)....try those....

The Glass Prison was also the first Dream Theater song I listen to, but it wasn't until Octavarium I got pulled into it. I should really go back and listen to all of their albums. You should get Josh to react to Octavarium. lol.

Octavarium and train of thought blew my head up and 15-20 years later i'm still pretty much looking for pieces of my skull trying to stop listening to them. Can't say i dislike anything from portnoy era DT, even the 2nd album has grown on me through out the decades.

5:03 Come you can get over it, the guy got a food poisoning and destroyed his vocal cords in 1994. So honestly he's a pretty fucking good singer if you consider this. And after listen to Another Hand/The killing Hand from Live at the marquee and you will see that he was probably one of the greatest singer back then

The best album from them for me is Scenes from a Memory. But if you are looking for something a little more on the heavy side then start with Train of Thought.

22:20 Dream Theater's stuff is not one time listen stuff. You know their tracks by heart, therefore, you know the exact time where you headbang. Lmao 😂 I know everything by heart. I do not attempt to headbang on new songs of theirs. I love them BECAUSE of their virtuoso status and their complexity, not despite it. They're absolute gods ❤ They make divine music.

I think if you listen to their more commercial sounding stuff, it would be more digestible. Stuff like Panic Attack, Constant Motion, and etc. When people introduce people to Dream Theater, they often put up their most complex stuff which can easily turn people off from them. You have to taper some people into them.

There Virtuosos, all of them. It's in there blood. Do you want them to play fucked up just to please your tasteless ears? They are the Bach and Mozart of our time. If you have to do math when listening then you've miss it all. This music is Not for you, skinhead. There has never been a band like this, and were hoping it's gonna rub off on others like it already has. The people that reproduce this DT music are a breed of there own. Far beyond anything you will ever like. Were on a different plain. Later!

Skin head here. I think the issue is that they have an inferiority complex. They aren’t good song writers so they fill the songs full of stuff. Bach and Mozart could actually write coherent music and just didn’t throw stuff in because they could. They showed real restraint in favor making the song good. DT is incapable of writing good music, hippie.
