Dream Hunt Explained | Avatar Explained

Фильм және анимация

Dream Hunt from Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) Explained. A quick comprehensive guide and analysis of the rite of passage known as Dream Hunt, or Uniltaron.
In this breakdown, analysis, reaction and explanation I take you through Jake Sully's Dream Hunt in the year 2154. There is an entire sequence that was cut out of Avatar (2009) showing us the actual right of passage Jake Sully goes through to become a man and to become one of the Omaticaya. Dr. Grace Augustine initially advised Jake not to go through with the dangerous ceremony, as she unaware of the effects that Dream Hunt could have on an Avatar brain, let alone a human brain linked in with the Avatar. So Jake is taken through Dream Hunt by the spiritual leader, Mo'at and the clan leader, Eytukan. As well as Tsu'tey, not Corporal Lyle Wainfleet, Neytiri, and other members of the Omaticaya clan. The ceremony adds a lot more context to Pandora's network of energy.
This analysis also compares the humans/ RDA's (Resources Development Administration) way of life vs. the Na'vi's way of life. Determining wether or not the humans are the bad guys.
I use material from deleted scenes, the original script, interviews, Avatar: A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora, and The World of Avatar: A Visual Exploration to help you get the full scope of Dream Hunt.

I know dream hunt was taken out but i hope that they bring it back in the future films and maybe jake or neytiri's kids might go through dream hunt and then show it because I feel like it is interesting. Also when you showed that dream hunting was advised for the avatars to go through with cause their was a high chance of not surviving. I think jake going through with it really appealed to neytiri and made her fall even more in love with jake because it was one of the last stages to becoming one of the people in her clan. And it's alot more risky than the very last stage which is making a bow from home tree

Its very hard for me to stop convey my thoughts on this! and yes for a foreigner my thoughts could be extremely ridiculous but there is soo much similarity btw Navi and my culture! the word Avatar (a Sanskrit word which means :- incarnation ) the word Amrit (also a Sanskrit word, means :- elixir ' the potion of immortality' but it have a different story of origin which was Amrit-Manthan ) and the most important Dream hunt sequence, actually the customs are totally different (or may have some metaphorical references which I am not able to catch as for now) but the main concept is same! In our case a human have to meditate to first make its mind stable for the process! first the "Saadhak":- the meditator cuts his bond btw his surrounding, then his belonging, then all emotions then at last its own ego of existence and finally approach the nirvana or the moksha i.e. being liberated from the illusionary world and integrate back to the eternal consciousness "Brahman" here in this case was "Mother Eywa" the only difference btw them is the scale mother Eywa is the consciousness of a moon and its reality as per the movie but "Brahman" is the ultimate consciousness of all existential and non-existential reality ! and yes I am talking about " Sanatan Dharma" and the similarity btw all other pantheon and polytheistic cultures is actually dates back to the very concept of such culture !

This is what I wish people understood about Avatar. It’s the first movie to put the universal consciousness in a literal form that people can more plainly wrap their minds around. So many people focus on the less important details of these movies & end up missing the main point, which is ironic if you ask me. If people could open themselves up to learning from these stories, they’re a great teaching tool in terms of introducing people to concepts that often require a lot of time & practice to understand on our own. Accepting these ideas & then learning to apply them to the best of our abilities within our own world & daily life is really the main point of this movie. The universal consciousness & interconnectedness of all things is what I feel was the most important take away & the reason I love Avatar so much.

Honestly, the fact that the laws of Eywa specifically forbid building, mining and wheeled vehicles, is a pretty good indication that the Na'vi had all of that at some point. If they had never known what any of that was, there would be no need for the laws (or even the words used in them) to exist. 🙄

Many indigenous cultures include ceremonial "rites of passage" for there youth that include a vision quest of some form.. it is very important to note that not indigenous cultures include the use of some sort of hallucinogen a a part of this experience , some cultures do, some do not , for example the act of fasting can also be used bring about this experience. James Cameron was likely concerned that the inclusion of an example like this would lead to a dangerous misuse and abuse of such substances outside of there original traditional circles, and I am not sure what impact It would have had upon the films rating review ,so I understand his concern here.,, Avatar is very "reflective" and contains many deeply researched layers of internal recognition, reflected from many of earths living peoples. we can internally recognize these layers inside as some of us have internal memory's of them on some level ,, "walking through a dream" I see you as a hint , The story for Avatar was in itself seeded from a dream in the first place and that's something to be aware of .. The dream hunt is somewhat "reflective " of an ayahuasca ceremony , filtered through the world culture and layers of Pandora... Mirror Story's .can be a very powerful venue when a person has a "Bridging recognition experience with them in relationship to our inner layers relating to our own very real world and our histery with it "(how we see and inter-relate on what we have been taught and our interna reflective ability to call in question those layers) , we all know that clever Na'vi catch phrase "I see you" but are we aware of one living internal representation within the Zulu language , "Sawubona " kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZH2et82PirW2e5s.html as a possible source reflection , in fact many of the earths indigenous languages "all around our world" have always contained these recognition layers a causual example from the Ojibway language tree kzread.info/dash/bejne/jGqqj5qKc7iTc9o.html . ( The act of "Seeing" someone is not a non topical experience like it is in English) A gentleman from the Taino community commented upon this "refection" as well from his shared perspective they are "Taino like" but there is recognition there is a better expression of this. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qYWHxbqGnru_hqQ.html The dream hunt example add's an internal dimension to the deep thought that went into the underlying layers the films creation ..

Before watching your videos I didn't really care about the Avatar universe that much, but after seeing all these deleted scenes I'm right there with you. I think can explain how an Avatar brain (aka a human brain in a Na'vi skinsuit) can survive the rite of passage and have a similar, if not the same death chance of a Na'vi. So, the forest works like a computer, or a brain, right? And most likely an Avatar is more Na'vi than Human. Now, if like any of you would normally, "add components" (add an Avatar, aka a Na'vi with human genetics) like you would to a computer, it should not have any problem communicating with it. We see this with Grace dieing, joining Eywa (aka being uploaded to Pandora) and we see this with Jake being able to even ACCESS the neural network through joining "external firmware" (the animals) and being able to "operate" them. All this to say that, the possible computational power that a human, or Na'vi, might miss, could, and probably would be given by Eywa themselves. A bit like an administrator is able to access every part of the computer and is able to add or subtract usable RAM to different processes. And this might explain also why not every Na'vi passes through the rite of passage: Eywa does not permit the un-chosen Na'vi to access the extra computational power and resources to not only contrast the hallucinogens and venoms in their body, but also doesn't let them survive or see any visions, both for keeping the balance of the species and the balance of the world. Also, saying that "humans are right" and that "Eywa is just a sadistic dictator" is literally, absolutely literally, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, spreading capitalism, colonialism and racism, or specism ideals, whatever you want to call it. I'm still gonna call it racism because it's still humanoids with intellectual power that know that they don't know some things and are aware of their selves and their sentient-ness and can communicate this and other things to other humanoids, but also because of the subtle like a thanator running at full speed in the viewer's face racial implications of the film, ALSO explicitly said by James Cameron himself, that the Na'vi are basically to be taken like a metaphor of another native human population that other humans were to just conquer, just this time it's in space and with a distinctly Cyberpunk aesthetic and with tall blue aliens. Also the blue aliens won this time because native people do deserve a good thing. As a treat.

where do the laws of eywa even come from? i dont think a planetwide megabrain can just come up with the concept of technology without ever having seen it. have na'vi in the far past created technology? or have other aliens landed there before humans did (or even before na'vi evolved)? maybe these other aliens are the na'vi but they genetically modified themselves to fit into pandora's ecosystem and started living a life without technology. this would also explain why na'vi are biologically so different to all other pandora life, but still fully fit into the ecosystem. or maybe these other aliens were actually good and just temporarily visited pandora rather than mine or colonise the moon and when they left eywa just decided that technology could also be used for bad things and banned it?

10:09-10:46 this guy just explained what human sin is in a nutshell! That battle is being raged here on Earth and since the sacrifice happened on the cross we can have forgiveness of sin and be allowed a chance to get it right. The first conservation concerns aroused in the 1790s-1805 which lead to the first formal conservation act (this was during the Napoleonic Wars). During the 1890s and early 1900s conservation really took hold in America, this was well after the crucifixion of Jesus. The descendants of the Clovis became more respectful and peaceful after the extinction of the ice age. Until European colonizers arrived in America no more extinctions happened. Humans have the unique ability to right our wrongs. James Cameron even made this movie to warn people of environmental destruction, I remember that fact being brought out when this movie was new.

I found this scene to be very reminiscent of an Ayahuasca journey, both in the way the psychedelic journey is achieved (a mix of two ingredients that amplify each others effects), and in the way it is profound and ecstatic but also, to put it mildly, not fun. The scorpion also reminded me of another type of real life ceremony that involves frog venom if I remember correctly. Most of the deleted scenes for Avatar were clearly better cut in my opinion, usually for pacing reasons or issues of redundancy or just not being that important, but I do wish they included this scene. I think the only reason it was left out in the end was because it was too weird. Which I get.

What I learned about native Americans culture is that each other is what culture is about the culture. The community is the culture and world that they have around them. They live in Respect River cards to as the only take like they need similar to the avatar. The humans in the movie more so act like leeches only taking what they want at any cost of the thing they are draining the life from. 😢 The stuff we make isn’t biodegrade or healthy for the earth. To synthetic fibers, synthetic Materials like ceramic and cement. Native s on our planet Have more understanding and respect for nature than the ones that came to them YEARS ago and even today. People think it’s all about stuff and money and it’s not Heck we don’t even have time for our families because of working for other greedy companies that all they want to do is “drive sales” The Natives nor Navi wanted to do that , they ahve eachother and the earth around them. They know the earth had everything they could possibly need to survive and thrive and they did (until the pleague) We stay stuck in our phones and in shopping malls at the expense of our own humanity And now they want to replace us with robots….
