My favorite skin tones were the darker ones, they really looked smooth. There is so much of a variety and colored pencils really capture nicely the tones. I do use Gamsol but on those top layers the white or lighter colors work nicely. Have you ever used a clear gesso on your paper since the colors ride on top anyways? I have found that I get a bit more ability to layer but the colors are more vibrant and it helps my wrist with arthritis.

Thank you Kirsty. I have been using brown and black for my portraits so far. This tutorial seems to work.
WOW! You really worked wonders with those few colors. I for sure don’t have the skills and talent you possess but I am so motivated to put what you showed to a test. I am going to use your printable to help me in my adult coloring books. I enjoy coloring people/ portraits the most and struggle to get the skin tones especially the darker ones to look the way I want. Thanks for the video and the free printable 💕 Plus, you have saved me money on buying a separate Skin tone pencil set for now anyway.
Kirsty, I followed your examples a few nights ago and swatched my polychromos and prismacolors. Took a bit to get the hang of it, but I was amazed at how I was able to create these varied skin tones with just 5 pencils. Thank you so much for your videos. I feel confident enough to tackle my first portrait! 💕
I'm 67 yrs old. As I'm trying to teach myself to draw your skint one metherd with 3 main colors really have helped me thank you.
Geez, Kirsty, that came out amazing.!!! This is probably one of the most valuable you tube art tutorials I have ever seen.
I can't thank you enough .. Your videos are more than amazing
You’re a brilliant artist - this was so fun to watch you colour the portrait. Such a pretty girl. Thank you for the free Skin Colour Guide! ❤️🇨🇦
I swear from last few days I was looking for a good skin tone tutorial within normal supplies and I found it! thankyou so much

Hi hunar how are you doing?
I haven’t comment but I want to say thank you for your videos. I stopped drawing when i reached college because of the hectic schedules. Then during work I came across your watercolor videos and picked up my own watercolor for the first time. And i fell in love with it. I started drawing again until now and try out different mediums and learning from your tutorials and color pencil academy. Hope you have a good day Kirsty!
Great piece of information Kristy. Thanks. Happy Dushehra. Love from India 😊😊😊❤🇮🇳
Hi Kirsty, thanks for this new video! I've bought your drawing courses last year, they're amazing!! I've learned so much from you, so thank you very much! I was thinking about also enrolling in your new colored pencil academy, but I think you already gave me the skills I need in that previous course. However, everyone not enrolled in a course from you, should definitely book that colored pencil academy (or at least any of your courses!!) because it's really worth it!
Thanks for helping us to improve ourselves by your art ideas.
Kristy you are amazing. I wait every week for your art that u do . I love how you teach in more than one way. Your drawings are wonderful. You are absolutely amazing .
Omg this tutorial was incredible! 😍
I am 68 years old and so wanted to learn how to paint skin tones. This video was so helpful! Thank you! ❤
This was VERY helpful! I always assumed you needed pre made colors to color realistic skin! I never color my drawings thinking but will mess up my art but this has given me inspiration! Thank you, Kirsty!

Thank you so much dear Kirsty. Till now I have watched so many tutorials on skin shading. But this one really surpasses all. Thanks once again, for the trick of sharing and the free tutorial guide. 🙏💝🙏
Thank you, Kirsty! This really helped me a lot!
So beautiful! Thank you for always teaching us your techniques. It really helps a lot ❤️🥰
Such an excellent video. Bravo! I love this. I get it. I sort my pencils by color in most cases. I never care about the color name or brand, I will grab a brown, a black, ....This way, you focus on techniques and application, which frees you to blend, explore and learn quickly. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Great video Kirstie! I learned a lot about skin tone and how awesome you can do it only a few colors! Thank you so much for sharing and for sharing your downloadable with more about skin texture
Hey Kirsty thank you so much for the free guide. I don't use colored pencils often but I guess this can applied when using other media.
Amazing! Thank you so much! ❤ You give me lots of inspiration. 🎉❤
For the lighter skin tones could you also use the slightest amount of blue? Because for light cool toned skin sometimes you can kinda see the blue in their skin. I personally have cool toned skin and I was curious about whether or not using a little blue would look good or not. also shadows are sometimes purplish but it's dependant on some things, so would using like a light layer of purple look good? I don't have any coloured pencils personally so I'm a bit curious Thank you for this video! It was helpful :) I've been looking into getting coloured pencils cause I wanna add colour to my portraits but paint is still a bit intimidating

Thank you so much for this. Your tutorials are so very, very helpful, and the way you teach, with such clarity is awesome. Again, thank you.
Thank you for this great tutorial, Kirsty! I always thought there was a small amount of blue in some skin tones. Some nordic blondes almost seem to have translucent skin that shows more blue.

Today is my lucky day! I have learned so much in few hours! And you have answered so many questions I had. You are an amazing artist and a great teacher! Thank you
I subscribed to the legacy classes last night such a great idea to group all the videos and provide them for sale in easy to follow format as you embark on your new courses. It lets people try out lots of different medias but its also really good for people like me who are good at mostly self -led learning who don't neccessarily need all the tutored support.
Thanks @Kristy for a wonderful skin tone tutorial and it is very helpful for me.☺️❤️❤️
Very useful tutorials. Very impressive and worth watching. Thanks for sharing my friend 😍😍.
