Drawabox Lesson 1: Uncomfortable Critiques my Homework!

All my Drawabox content is cut from my video streams on twitch ( / scyllastew )... except this one, which was actually streamed on Uncomfortable's twitch ( / mostuncomfortable ).
That's right! I finished up my lesson 1 homework in 9 drawing sessions, all of which were streamed live. And as is fitting, we cap it off with a live in-person critique from Uncomfortable, the creator of the Drawabox lessons. He shares a lot of comments both on my work, and things he often sees from students' homework.
If you've finished off the whole lesson's homework, following through this video and comparing the comments to your own work should help you spot issues you may want to work on in the future.

The "One line as a unit of effort vs a whole box as a unit of effort" got me. Remembering that each line in my box is important and worth its own consideration is helpful.

Well for this one we only had one microphone between us and I would rather you hear him than me. It's something we are working on though.

I also had the most trouble with the rough perspective exercise. Whenever my ghosted line didn't go in the right direction, I had a tendency to want to use the original point anyway to build the following lines, instead of the new wrong point. I felt like the final line wouldn't go to the vanishing point not because my planning was wrong, but because my execution was wrong, so that was frustrating. Hope my English is clear! Edit: when I say points, I mean the dots before ghosting the lines, ie. the corners of the boxes.

Very cool video. I am wondering what is going on with the audio, though. Is there a gate being applied to the audio by chance? That's kindof what it sounds like, like the audio is being ducked as the dB dips bellow a certain amount.

Hi, I'm just starting out and did a few homework exercises. My question is, I cannot find where he says how many times should we do each homework lesson? Like, do we actually do the lines just one page, that's it, and move on to next lesson? Or like ellipses...do we do the one page, and then move on? I feel like we should be repeating each lesson Maybe? Not that I *want* to, but I wonder what the expectation is.

At the bottom of the lesson page in the "Homework" section he tells you how many pages to do of each exercise. I believe in the lesson 0 or lesson 1 reading video you will see that he states to do each full lesson (all the assigned homework pages) ONCE to the best of your CURRENT ability and then move on. You can and should incorporate the homework exercises into your warm ups to better improve and stay fresh as you progress. But repeating a lesson right after finishing the homework wont help you very much. Unless you find that you fundamentally misunderstood the material. If you are unsure that you have done the homework correctly you can post your homework to either the r/artfundamentals subreddit on reddit or on the drawabox discord server. Free feed back in not guaranteed but there are many people who will be happy to help.

@@ScyllaStew tysm. I'm going to look at the bottom of the homework lesson pages. I don't remember seeing how many exercises to do. Although I know I somehow didn't see links to homework lessons on KZread either so maybe I'm not following the links in a linear way. Will go back and look more carefully; appreciated!
