I bought it, well worth the price. Its my checklist for this winter.
Original owner of an ‘07 DR200; love my turd of a dual sport. I was in my 40s when I bought her; yes, I’m one of those better late than never. I’m almost 60 now and still enjoy that turd for its overall simplicity. 👍🏼

I want to see a DR200 at it's full potential. Full on off road performance build. That would be sweet to see.

I try to describe what that build would look like having a dr200 I have upgraded some and done a ton of research on what is possible. First of is: 265cc stroker piston Stage 3 performance cam Upgraded valve springs EFI or Mikuni TM33 pumper carb FMF Exhaust Sixth gear mod Upgraded rear suspension Replace front forks for something better Relocate the footpegs Uni foam filter installed on a 45 degree intake tube and a prefilter to further protect the pod filter from water. Weight reduction: remove battery, airbox, rear fender along with the steel support of the rear fender, cut of the passenger footpeg mounts, lights and housing, directional lights, foot protectors, mirrors. Replace the original gastank with a lighter plastic one. Install a rear disk brake and a better front disk brake. Two pairs of rims smaller supermoto rims like warp17s for street and motocross rims for offroad. Optional: turbo or Nos It would be a lot of fun I can imagine. Not sure how long the engine would last, but this would be my build if I had to do a race on the dr200 and had unlimited budget
Bought a DR200 as my first bike. Love it. I just wanted a simple, gutless machine. My only complaint is that stupid vacuum-operated petcock; replaced it with a manual one.
Making the best out of the bike you have at any given moment is an awesome thing
honestly that was one of the most fun series to watch, and what you did with that bike...24 hours of glen-helen, and you came in 2nd! no wonder it holds a special place in your heart. Anyone can make a video about doing up a KTM or any other production bike, but this is truly unique and amazing content. It may be a turd, but it was a golden turd and you needed real ingenuity to get it up to your spec. I applaud you sir, keep it up!
Ive ridden a dr200 so many miles, my parent bought me one when i was 13, and i never thought of looking for way to modify it. The carb swap looks like such a game changer

I would highly recommended it. I have done some mods on mine as well. The ones I have found gives the most are: 28mm PWK carburetor Modded exhaust Modded air intake for better flow Lastly is changing the sprocket/s. If you do road and light/medium challenging terrain get a 14 tooth front sprocket. If you just want to rip around and top end is not that important a 13 or 12t sprocket is good too. I think Gabe runs a 12tooth front with stock rear sprocket in his build. Have fun!
Love this video! As an "oldster" had a 1977 TS 250 when they were new. Put knobby tires on, good shock, stiffer fork springs and cut a chunk off the slide out tail pipe. Rode to work, trail rode ect. But then a buddy saw we could drive from home state of Minnesota to Colorado and race Pikes Peak January 1st! Off we went and long story short we studded our tires and that TS 250 placed 3rd in the 250 A class. Big fun, cheap ride.
Great non-review! It's fun to see what riders do with small bikes. I hope this video comes up at the top when people are searching.
This is basically my thoughts on my DR650 as well. Stock I thought it really sucked. But with basically the same mods as you (suspension, footpeg relocation, and carb/power mods [+ bar risers, tall bars, and tall seat cuz I'm 6'7"]), it has transformed into something I really love. Having owned a lot of different bikes now (DRZ400, KLR650, AT, KLR650, KLX650C, etc), the only one I've really loved in stock form was the WR250R. Besides the valving on the rear shock that bike is amazing in stock form!

I loved your content on this bike, I personally own a dr250r and it's honestly some of the most fun I've had on a bike
Awesome vid!, Do you think this DR200 matches a CRF230F in performance? Would you review a “Chinese made” GPX FSE250E, which is comparable in performance to both your DR200 and the 230f which, I grew fond of it after owning one. Thanks a lot 🙏🏻, and keep up with the great content 🙌🏻
This felt strangely similar to a Regular Car Reviews video...and that is a very good thing!
This actually works really well as a review. What people keep forgetting is that it's not the bike that matters, it's how a particular rider is gonna feel on and ride that particular bike. A crap machine can end up being more fun than a brand new 3-letter-brand one. In fact, some experiences are reserved just for the owners of such rides, and if you've only ever owned new, perfectly working bikes, I'd say you're missing out! :)
Lol great vid ,Do you still have the xr and crf 250’s?
So fun to see this video. I absolutely enjoyed the DR200 series, this reminded me that I need to go back and watch them. #KTMTears
Nice build. So what carb did you swap too?
I have a question. I have a 2014 Yamaha TT-R 230 I keep getting pinch flats on the back tire I just bought and installed the new tube and it happened again two weeks later. Should I buy a new tube with new tires with a tube sattle?
I feel the same way about my old xr200r. I did all the same upgrades you did to your dr and then some. I sold it, cause I pushed that bike to its limit and I was afraid of blowing the motor. I will definitely buy another 1
I’ve picked up a cheap ex farm DR200, later 2014 model ( was used for chasing cattle on a outback farm in Australia) speedo still works and is showing 5000 km (3000 miles) Seat is badly sunburned and ripped but will eventually fix this. Might keep it a while as I’m so short legged it’s one of the bikes I can ride around on Rocky ground. Love the electric start but wish they kept the kickstart also
I was lucky enough to land a 2006 Dr200 with 55km on the clock here in South Africa. It now has just under 200km on the clock. Stock standard, even the original tyres which only needed to be pumped up.
After having a slightly hopped up xr200 the ttr230 and dr200 just seemed weak. All the XR had was a cr125 fork, 215 piston and a slip on.
I have a 2020 dr200 with a dg exhaust and some other things on it and i love it
I GOT A 2018 DR200S, WHAT CHEAP CARB SWAP CAN I DO??
I think you did a pretty good job reviewing this bike with the videos you did.
To be fair to the DR200, I think that any kind of trail more technical than a fire road is going beyond what the bike is built for. The fact that it still ran after a 24 hour endurance race just speaks to how reliable of a shitbike it really is.

Kind of feel that way about my old xt350!
How did you relocate the pegs?

It’s a fast bike for the displacement after some minor mods. Just do carb swap and jet it properly. Optionally for a bit more performance you can install an aftermarket exhaust or mod the original as well as mod the air box for better airflow or simply change it for a pod filter like a UNI. Lastly if you want that extra in the dirt and don’t care too much about top end get a 13 or 12t front sprocket. 15 is stock. 14 is a good compromise if you want to do a little bit of everything.
I rode one of these things for 2 days in my MSF class. It was almost as hard to find neutral with as a lifan engined scooter. Electric start was nicer than the kickstart on my XR200 though.

Hey brother here 5280milehighstoners from IG Love those shred videos. Keep up the good work.
I had a 2015 DR200 as my first bike. I'm so glad I learned on it bc it's such a pain to ride. You better choose a good line bc you can't hop out of it. You better land a jump right because the suspension won't do you any favors. You better hit a hill climb in the right gear because you can't tractor up. I sold it after a year and got a DRZ. I feel like the DR200 taught me all the fundementals. Now offroading on the DRZ feels like cheating.
Do you have a video of the exact upgrades to make the same or similar improvements to the 2018 i just purchased?

So easy to make this thing way, way better
you need a modded TW200 with a rear atv tire and an mx front tire.
you should try get a cheap motocross silencer for it even a second hand oem one if nothing it will make it lighter
Never got an in depth video about the carb swap etc
I love my dr200 as and ag for moving cattle, bike, I got it for free and when my xr250r is broken it does the job
How about an XR200?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated, and I am a new rider, primarily interested in mellow trail riding and back roads. I am thinking about picking one of these up and turning it into a mini adventure. Compared to the XR 150 L , the CT125 or TW200; DR200 is a better value for money.

camshafts from HotCams or other - use LT250 quadbike cams, I have a stage 1 cam, but should have gone bigger (well no actually because i also put a big bore in and the piston is way too close to the valves) I got some Honda XR250 forks on one of my DRs, marginally better and has air valves. Have some Better Kawasaki forks but need to bore out the tripples to 47mm from 45. My parts pile came with i believe an RM250 rear shock with the remote res on it, bottom mounts up to the DR swingarm but the top mount needs a little work (on the bike its too wide). I mostly putt around tho so dont care too much, but i do have an 87 frame that im going to build with all the mod parts i have, they are basically the same as the modern dr200 frame

Chill as he says stock it is not good. But do the minor mods I describe and you will have a decent little ripper. Replace the carb first. The carb is mainly what makes this bike slow. Get a PWK 28mm or mikuni vm26-606. Then further on you can modify the exhaust or install an aftermarket exhaust and finally remove the lid from the Airbox and the metal mesh inside the airbox. I got one modded like that and it is fun and fast for being a 200cc single.
Not to get on your case, but I'm still waiting on that dr200 forks rebuild video....;)

Awesome 😎
No need to review, i have 4 of them. Stock modern ones are perfect slow cheap bikes to put around on the farm with super low gear. Want performance, get a 1980s one, they at least came with a pumper carb from factory. The brakes made no change from 1985 to today, same with the suspension, it was fancy in 85 tho. 80s ones had aluminium rims, modern ones are chrome steel and you very much notice the distance. Personally i recommend that you buy another (from me)
Its simple, you feel like me, 2 days running in an adventure 250 and i want my dr200 with me again, you just fall in love with it.
I hope my future ex speaks about me the way you speak about this bike!

I like my DR200 a lot!!! I always have a really good excuse for not winning as long as I ride this bike......
This is beautiful just beautiful 😂
I know there's about a 0% chance of this happening, but it would bring me great joy if you ever laid your hands on a 120cc 1967-69 Kawasaki C2-TR. In technical terms, its only redeeming qualities are light weight (which is a bit alarming given the non-chromoly steel frame) and utter stone-axe reliability. But oh my God. If someone tried to take my 120 from me I would beat them until the cops came and dragged me off of their hamburger corpse. It is the most fun, most endearing, most charming, most wonderful bike I've ever had. With all the street accessories removed probably sometime during the Reagan administration, and with modern (mid-70s) kids-bike suspension and NASTY stinger exhaust added by my dad and I in the 2000s, it's a surprising weapon on tighter trails. There are quite a few places where I sincerely believe that the 120 could start to get away from my 250 Husqvarna. I rode the absolute hell out of the 120 in 2020, and with the "real" bikes once again demanding their eternal maintenance, it looks like the ancient stone-axe kids' enduro is going to be ringing in the 2021 riding season as well.
I doubt you read these Haha but I think the klr deserved alot more credit then you gave it just like this dr200 transforming the klr does the same if not more I ride mine single track in north washington and it's a beast not comparable to stock.
