Had my physical yesterday along with blood work. The doctor said “ you are doing great, we have nothing to talk about, thanks for coming, have a great day”. This wasn’t the case 2 years ago before keto when I was 52 years old and 85 pounds overweight. Thanks to all my health heroes who walked me through this and educated the living “hell” out of me.

Dr. Berry. You do medicine like i did engineering for 42 years. You listen, you talk, and you're not intimidated in the least by having someone like Dr. Lustig on to listen to and allow him to impart his knowledge and wisdom. I noticed your uncharacteristic silence, and as an ex professional i immediately recognized it as a learning experience for you as well as your audience. My compliments sir. This session spoke volumes to me about you. I'm an avid follower of your videos every week, 4 1/2 years ketovore, down 70 lbs. Type 2 reversed. I'm in your debt.

It was unbelievable to me when I saw what my ex-husband was being fed and the information he was given in the hospital and in a rehab facility after his bypass surgery last month. He's diabetic to the point of needing insulin injections, and they were feeding him high carb, high sugar junk and the advice was what we knew was wrong 30 years ago - egg whites, margarine, seed oils, grains and a harsh limit on red meat. It was malpractice on steroids.

When my diabetic brother was in the hospital, he was given 100 g of carbs at EACH meal…it was printed on his dietary menu that arrived with the meals! The meals were generally “white” with starchy carbs and a little bit of protein. Stunning to see that there is still no improvement in the hospital settings (and other healthcare facilities) when it comes to food for patients.

I'm 65yrs now & that's why the thought of being forced to live in a nursing facility scares me to death. You no longer have any control over what you eat & they administer medications that are not needed. When my mother was living they had her taking pills that she couldn't even tell me what they wer for. And never got a clear answer frm the staff. I think they wer just padding the bill to Medicare with unnecessary medications. Wish she'd never gone in that place.

I wish my PCP would talk like these two but they do not. My PCP and dietition gave me bad advice that would keep me iabetics forever. They encourage me to eat high carbs meals and to eat many meals but told me not to spike up my blood glucose. What they wanted me to do cannot be done bc I did it for a month before I quit! I exercise to loss weight, reduce my glucose, and my A1C results by not following their dietary advice. Their advice actually hurts a lot of T2D worldwide and yet only a small portion of people are actually healing themselves without their pcp aids.

Somewhere around 4 months ago I cut out the majority of sugar and processed carbs from my diet. About a month ago I started using a diet tracking app on my phone. Following the app I drastically changed my consumption of fats. Now 75% of my calories I consume as fat. My blood sugar has dropped drastically while my weight has dropped from 270 pounds to 245 pounds. My goal is to reach 215 pounds. I want to be able to completely stop taking blood pressure and diabetes medication completely. My question is how can I find an Endocrinologist and/or Cardiologist who is not dogmatic about fat and sugar and can provide guidance as I (hopefully) wean myself from these meds?

Even after losing 100 lbs eating "healthy" I never understood the food industry in general until watching his lectures. Wow, 22 tsp of sugar/day. I have been carnivore since Dec 1, 2022. I am down from 205 to 157 and aiming for 140. My body still hurts but my fasting insulin was still 8.8 at beginning of Feb even though I did not intentionally have sugar. Little did I know that rotisserie chicken is soaked in sugar solution of some kind. I dealt with a 40 pt elevated BG eight hrs after I ate it. This was crazy! Even my dog won’t eat the chicken the next day. She sniffs it and walks away. My philosophy is if she won’t eat it then I probably shouldn’t either. I have friends that say I have a lot more willpower than they do, but I disagree. I have felt like crud most of my life. I can say that I have felt really good for about three weeks of my entire life. Willpower? No. It is a choice, and I choose not to be diabetic and on insulin. Thanks so much for this detailed breakdown on sugar. I am currently on a Dr Lustig video marathon.

I hope you got a dog. I’ve been relying on one of mine for several years. I just thought she was a cheese snob, but she turns her nose up at certain deli meats, and a number of other things. I first noticed that she would have nothing to do with American cheese, Velveeta, mozzarella, Brie, Muenster, and provolone. Then it was different bologna, mortadella, and ham curings. Weird that pepperoni and salami and liverwurst are ok … so, I’ve followed her lead. Same can be said of many veggies. Fruit is absolutely a fuggetaboutit food. She turns her nose up at the really bad stuff for dogs… nuts, seeds, raw onions, chocolate, bread. Kinda weird but I had two other dogs that were true omnivores. Both loved carrots, peas, corn out of the garden. Both stole melons and watermelons when they were ripe. Go figure as both were Norwegian Elkhounds. My mixed mutts now are about as good as it gets. I eat like them for the most part and they are on a raw diet. I just cook my meats as rare as possible and eat only veggies I grow. Fruit is about nonexistent except for raspberries I grow and blueberries from a friend. Btw… the animal with a digestive tract most similar to humans are dogs. Not chimps, gorillas, bonobos or any other primates or mammals. We definitely evolved together for 10’s of thousands of years. They have just a bit more stomach acid to dissolve bones, kill salmonella and ecoli and other bacteria. Makes me wonder when humans peaked. Last note… raw diet for dogs … poop is not stinky and doesn’t stick much to your shoe if stepped on and dries up quickly and turns white bcz of the bones and ground eggshells.

I adore Dr. Lustig! In my early years eating rock bottom low carb/high fat, it was hard to go it alone when EVERYONE thought I was nuts, but I was very sick and I needed a radical change after decades of eating a very low fat diet. Dr. Lustig’s video was important to my continuing on with courage. Going against my doctor’s disdain and criticism was hard and I say that it’s not for the faint of heart. Dr. Lustig is the perfect mix of brilliance, intelligence, confidence, and arrogance, and I mean that in the best way. I am a sugar addict, for real; in recovery. I trusted him and still do. I am 25 lbs or so away from my goal weight. Dr Berry isn't for everyone. I have tried to watch him but some of the things he says are not entirely accurate for everyone. When he presents the proper human diet as carnivore for everyone that just isn't true. Dr Lustig doesn't think it's true either nor does Dr Fung. He also mocked the idea of grass-fed meat in a video I saw. It is extremely important not to eat corn-fed meat. Obviously corn fed meat is going to be better than processed garbage but we have to do better. I'll give him another try. I don't have to agree with everything he says and he doesn't have to be right about everything. The fact that he is willing to have Dr Lustig on and accord him respect speaks well of him. Lustig doesn't advocate low carb for everyone he isn't low carb himself. It will be interesting to see if they touch on that.

Eldon... I just recently started keto and IF and headed towards carnivore and had a sweet craving today after a steak...so I had nothing for this problem sooooo I whipped up coconut flour with alot of organic butter , heavy cream, raw egg, organic coconut powder and threw in some walnuts and quite a few drops of stevia. It was okay but cured my craving and 2 he later checked urine for ketones and lots like I was still in ketosis ❗ so I am back on track and trucking on with healing myself. I live in New Zealand. Although the supermarket shelves are full to overflowing, there is very little 'food' there. Many of the products have a shelf-life of up to three years, with about 20+ ingredients written on the packaging [OMG!]. Even in the fresh vege department the vast majority is non-organic, but it's by far the better option compared with all the packaged stuff. Nearly everyone in NZ buys their groceries from a supermarket. Trolleys are full of soft drinks, snacks, white bread, biscuits, etc, etc. No wonder sickness is so widespread. Being sick is so normalized these days - it's as if it can't be helped. The population badly needs educating about metabolic health! Thank you Dr. Rob Lustig!!!! Basic physiology text book by Arthur Guyton, contains the real deal of metabolic health. What a staggeringly great book! Mine is an early 1980s edition. Thanks guys, love your work. Dear Dr Lustig, THANK YOU for your generosity in speaking with me when I sat behind you at the London event for John Yudkin's son's event. You were the main speaker, and you answered my questions with aplomb, generosity and great sense. Oh, and my goodness, you had a gorgeous suit on. Totally dapper!!

I thought the comment about dessert was interesting. I’m 65yo, and growing up, dessert was only offered for holidays and birthdays. Dessert was a celebration treat, not a weekly, let alone daily, treat. It was something special. When did we decide that every day was deserving of a treat? That just waking up was deserving of a treat, like pop tarts or sweet rolls or Frosted Flakes? Our world has become crazy.

Exactly! I am in my 70's and dessert once a week, sodas at birthday parties. My mom knew sugar was bad for your health but ALSO at that time it was commonly noted that sugar was bad for your TEETH. This fact is never mentioned anymore.

Eat more of the other foods and keep the sugary food out of the house if you can. You know you'd be better off without them. If you're not a vegan get into a good steak and mushrooms or something if you get the craving. It'll wear off.

Rda of sugar is 25grms.the average consumed per day is 74 grms...why ?: because too many Staple foods contain Added Sugar (not Fastfood , everyday ordinary foods).THIS is the problem.

  • @555Trout

@@ArgentoRAWRz First fat adapt without intermittent. Only eat fats and protein and no-carb vegetables. That's gonna take some time with those addicted to carbs . Which is most people. They just don't realize it. So you'll be very hungry at times even though you are eating as much as you want. So best to be able to eat during this phase to satisfy cravings at least to some degree. When the cravings go away then slowly lessen your eating window. A 6 to 8 hour eating window appears to be the best for various reasons. Work your way slowly to this. The science seems to show the best window is morning to noonish feeding but this is hard for most people because of dinner sociality. My window is 12 to 7pm. Use low intensity exercise , non aerobic, exercise tactically. Best at the end of fasting period . Do this for some time. At the very least a few months. Then throw in an occasional long fast. At least 4 days to completely exhaust glycogen stores which happens at about 3 days. This compels the body to burn fat. Then back to intermittent and keto. It will become obvious when at some point in the process your body is switching between on-board food, fat, and consumed food. Hunger is no longer urgent. A seamless transition in other words starts to happen. But be patient. The typical westerner has never been without food for even a day. Their fat burning hardware is dormant and undeveloped. Constant insulin has never allowed the fat burning machinery to develop. The mitochondria have to be built up and the brown fat deposits have to be developed. It's pathetic when you think about it. There are other issues at play too regarding vegetable oil omegas stored in the cells that might be hard to get at metabolically. Be patient. It takes years for some to metabolize the stored vegetable omegas . And don't eat vegetable oils. Maybe worse than sugar for us. My brain actually runs much better on ketones and I prefer to be in ketosis so I often eat just once a day. But the science seems to show that's not ideal. 6 to 8 hour window appears best. I'm no expert or professional but I hope this leads you in the right direction. Do it. It will be the best thing you ever did for yourself .

Wow thanks for the long reply first off! I have currently started keto and intermittent loosely for about a week now. Mostly trying as u said to get used to fat no sugar no carbs or low carbs etc. I want to do that 12-7pm too! But the thing is im an artist. I have ubnormal for most ppl hours of sleep and work. And so far im just eating once till im full and properly. At least based on low carb and keto allowed food. (Recovering dark choc addict cause of my ex too cause before i met her i wasnt into sweets overall) *I keep editing my reply btw* My exercise usually is walking, nothing else. As for oils. I usually use olive oil as a Greek. Some sesame asian oil too. And now that ive started keto apart from this too thought i would incorporate coconut oil too. No other oil compels me to use. Ok maybe chilli oil and cilantro oil but made by me with a base of olive oil. Bacon oil sounds good too 😋

I have learned a lot from these two Docs in the past 3 years or so. I always ate healthy mostly, thankfully, but I did not know just how harmful processed food was. I eat even more healthy now. I will soon be 62 and take no meds and never have! I share the dangers of processed foods with everyone who will listen. But when I talk about the bacteria in our gut, and how we need to protect it and feed it, and how our immune system depends on it, people look at me like I’m crazy!

I have both books. Great work Dr Berry and Dr Lustig 🙂 The books, and indeed this discussion, are worthy of re-read and re-listen several times over🙂 The food we eat is arguably the most powerful tool we as individuals have at our disposal to reach and maintain metabolic health and longevity. Whilst poor health may not have been our fault so far, our body is very much our responsibility now. Knowledge is power. Thank you both for your continued endeavours to spread the knowledge so that we can exercise informed choices over what we eat, and for the better.
