Dr. Jane Goodall's Message for World Chimpanzee Day | 2023

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

World Chimpanzee Day, every year on July 14th, unites people all around the world in celebrating the innate value, complexity, and importance of our closest living relatives in the animal kingdom - chimpanzees. The day honors the anniversary of the moment in 1960 when 26-year-old Jane Goodall first stepped foot onto the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Gombe, Tanzania to study these mysterious and wonderful beings, forever changing our relationship with the animal kingdom and the natural world. For World Chimpanzee Day 2023, Dr. Jane Goodall shares her thoughts as we celebrate our #ChimpanzeeConnection demonstrating the ways in which chimpanzees are so connected to us, other wildlife, and the natural world as a keystone species in the vast intertwined web of life. Together we will grow connection, understanding, protect wild endangered populations, and improve wellbeing for captive chimpanzees.
This year - the fifth anniversary of this powerful celebration - Dr. Jane Goodall and the Jane Goodall Institute global chapters are calling on everyone to rediscover their #ChimpanzeeConnection to grow compassion and action for closest living relatives in the animal kingdom!

Sending you the warmest of greetings and love on this 5th World Chimpanzee Day, Dr. Jane Goodall. I hope that you know how much you have influenced my life and the lives of thousands of others all over the world since you first stepped foot on the shores of Gombe back on this date in 1960. Like so many others have said in past comments here, I grew up wanting to be you. As a child, watching your National Geographic specials plus the TV specials, "Jane Goodall and the World of Animal Behavior" had a profound influence on my attitude toward the natural world and conservation. Although I never became an ethologist or primatologist, I was able to pursue careers as both an animal keeper at a major zoo, plus as a wildlife biologist with a federal agency. I imagine that I have probably been to see you at least twenty times through the years, when you have given lectures in my area, and I believe that I have every one of your books. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your tireless efforts to help chimpanzees, and all of the other species on our beloved planet. You are truly an inspiration to me, and to so many others! 🌍 💙

You often said that you carry the peace of the forest in your heart. I am lucky to have achieved that peace through connecting with nature but I wish that the young generation can find a way to let nature grow again, so that humans find that way, too. Thank you ever so much for all your kindness and helping nature.
