Dr. Jane Goodall's Message on World Swift Day 2024
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Happy World Swift Day! 🐦 Today we’re celebrating the birds that fly 200,000 miles a year, sleep on the wing (meaning they can enter a state of rest or sleep even while in the air), and can stay airborne for up to 10 months! These incredible creatures are facing habitat loss and declining insect populations. Help them by getting the word out because as Jane says, more we know, the more we care, and the more we care, the more we help! 🌿

She’s astronomical because she is ordinary. A secretary who broke the scientific world.
Thank Dr. Goodall for sharing the plight of little swifts. I wasn’t aware of them and I feel so sad we’re destroying our world.
Thank you Dr. Goodall for this video, amazing information, and encouragement. I live in Portland Oregon, where you may already know, about 16,000 swifts visit Chapman Elementary School each fall during their migration. They show up in the evening, and it is amazing to watch them swirling down from the sky and fit themselves into the old chimney. I have heard that the school has preserved this chimney for the annual migration, and updated the heating system for the school using other means. Glad my city seems to be doing its part......
We follow your actions. You are our power, doctor Jane Goodall
Thank you Jane for being an inspiration to every naturalist. I for one am a bird lover as well. And a lover of all creatures. I will take your important information as a strong reminder of how hard we all have to work. Bless you Jane!
Thankyou dear Jane, you are an inspiration to many ❤️
Keep speaking Jane. Thank you.
Thanks for your great work Dr Jane!
The term Swifties takes on a new meaning here. Thank you.
I'm so lucky and so happy to hear swifts screaming above me out in my own garden.
Thank you dear Doctor, we too love swifts. What a marvel! And you as a human. Thank you for your voice, courage, intelligence and kindness.🙏🙏
You are my hero since 1970 ❤
Thank you Dr Goodall for your caring and compassion for our fellow creatures. We have 7 swift houses along our house and one pair have returned from 7 years now, they are sitting on three eggs and for 3 years have been delighted with triplet swiftlets. We must continue to lobby councils and government about these essential amazing fellow creatures.
Jane you are my hero❤
Long live the swifts!

Wonderful....just wonderful.
Well... of all our knowledge that seemingly sets Humans apart from all the other fascinating creatures that bless this wonderous planet: What of it is necessary and within our control? Thank You for your leadership in understanding the nuances of the life that has graced the world on which all life depends; and inspires us with awe.🦧 Dr. Goodall... You are Awesome.🌼
I live in the south of England and can confirm these amazing birds are in decline. 10 years ago, I would see them everyday and even their arrival was early May most years seeing loads of them. Last I noticed I hardly saw them at all. This year I have see about 5 and they arrived only this last week on Wednesday. I saw 1/2 today. So happy Dr. JG is promoting their welfare. I hope the message spreads about these incredible birds.
In the words of the song, "What a wonderful world". We cannot replicate this, we cannot start again from nothing, we have lost too much already and Jane Goodall and others have warned over and over about the destruction of the natural world. I love the swifts. I love their courage and energy and their freedom as they sail across the sky. For God's sake and that of humanity, we must protect nature and this beautiful, unique, amazing, staggering Earth that is our only home.
I raised and released common swifts in the past 12 years among other wildlife. The care and the accommodations for raising them are very different to other wild birds. It felt always nearly like an honor to be near them and the moment, they take off when they are ready to go was every single time breathtaking.
Love to you, Dr. Goodall ❤️
Taylor Swift should be involved! Thank you Jane for all you do for our planet!
Hello Dr. Goodall : I have been in love of your work with chimps/early man since I was a little boy. I’ve always found your sense of serenity as a part of nature very comforting. I taught high school for 37 years and have shared your teachings with students- whether they were interested or not. 😂 Thank you for enriching our lives with your courage and scientific mind.

Celebrating my heroine Jane Goodall, thank you for all that you do, represent, and inspire! ❤ Happy Swift Day ❤
It was Chimney cleaning that I heard a Swifts final sounds of death. When you hear that, you will be changed forever, and you may recognize that sound to take extreme action with favorable results. Learning how to do the right thing means that you will always fight for the rights of the sweet birds, that like to live near and with people, and celebrate doing the right thing so all can learn how to stop hurting our feathered friends. Ecosystems stay in balance, and its designed to work that way, long before we were here.
Fascinating!! I had Chimney Swifts at one place. I was fascinated by how short their tail feathers were! Thank you Jane Goodall. You are a gift to our world!!
Wow! What fascinating little birds!

Awestruck every time I see them, I stop everything & just watch them fly, thank you Jane! ;-)
Amazing! Thank you so very much.
Hello Dr. Goodall. I've admired you 50+ years.❤

God bless you Jane. You remind me of St. Francis of Assisi, a beloved Catholic Saint, who also loved God’s creatures. God bless the Swifts.

I have chimney swifts roosting in my chimney. I really enjoy them
Nest Boxes, tiny bird movements🐦⬛🗣️🙏🏻
Thank you for what you do, for all creatures great and small 💞
They are my favorite bird.. I had some nesting in my chimney outside of Portland Oregon. I loved watching the circle and dive into the chimney at night. They and my 25 pair of swallows are gone, they just did not come back, that was maybe 8 years ago. For a while there was a pair of swallows that came every year. It broke my heart. There were no insects in that area even tho I had gardens and ponds to produce insects. I did not use pesticides but the county did. I called Audubon and asked them why they weren't saying anything about this, they changed the subject. I moved to Southern Oregon where there are many insects but no swallows here to speak of and none so far where I live.
Jane is a gift to humanity
Jane is so BRIGHT!!
Thank you Jane for your lovely message to us… we are blessed hat you are bringing vital information to the world about swifts!!

💞
Thank you Dr. Goodall, your words carry weight, when will we ever learn? seems most of us are the worlds worst invasive species , blessings to you and all who speak for the voiceless 🥰 well they do have a voice, we just don’t listen
Thank you so much for your message! I would not have known anything about swifts where I live (Mid-Atlantic state of Pennsylvania in the US) were it not for seeing swift "chimneys" in some of our county parks! I love to see them swoop and dive as I walk along the lakeside, where cormorants, blue and green herons, osprey, bald eagles, kingfishers, aquatic fowl and more also live and thrive. Each built swift "chimney" has signage explaining why the structures are there, and over the years, I'm positive that many people understand these birds' behaviors, though they may not realize they are threatened. When one flies by me or swoops in front of me, I get a fleeting chance to see it up close -- stunning! (Yes, the local variety here is the Chimney Swift!)
Thank Jane Goodall for this post and to the comm
❤Love Swifts❤
Thank you Jane.! This already made my day, having you coming along on my pinboard top shelf on youtube.
She is amazing. I learned about swifts recently.
We cherish everything about you! Thank you so much for everything you’ve done and continue to do for this planet and all who share it! With all the destruction that’s happening, it’s nice to know there are still efforts to try to mitigate the horrors perpetrated by humans on this home of ours which was meant to be for all creatures great and small!
Thank you, Jane Goodall
Amazing!
Hello🐣Swift!
Thank you, Dr Jane ! ❤🙏 🐦
What ab anazing legacu you have created, so much awareness for so many things in nature, in addition to the amazing chimps. Thank yoy Dr Jane. Linda Rothen
Beautiful! My grandma gifted me swift jewellry in a dream before she died. Spiritual significance is "family". Hence their nesting quality! 🙌💗
Love to you and to all the swifts and all of their helpers. Thank you for this important and informative little video. I know people of an older generation remember clouds of swifts in the air ...and my mother was sorry to see them so diminished in numbers in her lifetime.
Even Swft's now greatly endangered---I didn't think of them, too. Jane Goodall has been our valued elder since she arrived on the scene as a young woman. It would do us well to emulate her.
Thanks for sharing this information. We used to have them nest on the church by me in California miss their calling while flying😊
Even Jane Goodall is a Swiftie.

Swifts have such an interesting look to them too. We have a farmhouse and swifts nest under the roof of a 15 th century little building for grain storage. My father has painted little blue swifts in the ceiling of the house. I always wanted to make the garden a garden for wildlife. With many nestboxes, bushes, and wild flowers.
Astonishing birds! Thank you Dr. Goodall. Met you 2+ decades ago -- you continue blowing my mind open!!!
In my village there are lots of them!!!! They come in May after the shallows, in fact, shallows are less and less every year unlike swifts are increasing their comunity.
Thank 🌹 YOU 🌹 Amen 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
Thanks you for the good message. a return to regenerative farming practices will be required for nature to survive. Oligarchs cementing profit over the natural environment is an imminent danger to us all,.

Thnx Dr Jane and we have the White Throated Swift here in the South West.
Since doing anything in any capacity seems to make things worse, I will choose to do nothing. By doing nothing I'm not making the problem worse. I'll let others continue to do something until there is nobody left. Problem solved.

Wow! My image of swifts were negative because my sister hated them; they made nests on her white columns on her house and left messes everywhere on and around the elegant columns. I will never forget their calls and the dramatic flights around the acreage and the raising of their young.

Thanks for sharing.
May this swiftly be extended to reach all representatives & leaders in a way, with an appeal to have them realize that representing us people would be better, would be about time too, cuz we would save the swift habitats worldwide. Now a question, do swallows fit the Swift category, cuz they fit the swift description & are considered as "day bats" cuz they eat mosquitoes by day, complementing bats' nocturnal behaviour. So instead of killing mosquitoes, just keep these ever entertaining birds around. Along with dragonflies & bats too, would all vie for mosquito population. Then you can consider the odd mosquito bite as a sort of inoculation to help boost immunity, ^^shrug^^.
