Dr. Gupta 'nervous' before getting the results of his Alzheimer's test

Facing concerns about his own family history of Alzheimer’s, CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta visits preventive neurologist Dr. Richard Isaacson to have his own risk for dementia assessed in the CNN documentary “The Last Alzheimer’s Patient.” At the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases of Florida, Dr. Isaacson is leading a novel clinical trial focused on tracking and treating the aging brain through tools like comprehensive cognition tests and new, experimental blood biomarker measurements. Watch the full documentary on CNN’s “The Whole Story” premiering on May 19th at 8p et/pt and streaming on MAX on June 18

It’s wonderful that some people can afford to have all this testing done to prevent disease. But I have been limping on a hip with bursitis for over two years, activities of daily living are difficult, some are impossible. And I can’t get a shot for my hip so that I can go back to being productive. Ever since the bursitis started in April 2022, my health is declined because my activity level has diminished. That sucks. I’m sure that’s how all die, ignored by “sick care” system. And the people who are important will be able to live longer, healthier lives.

Dr. Gupta: I disagree regarding the benefit of a rucksack or weighted vest. I think it exacerbates the spinal compression that inevitably affects everyone with age, leading to a bent back or dowagers hump, chronic hip and lower back pain, and sciatica. I say this from my own experience. For many years I carried a backpack around the campus where I studied and worked, and while on a bicycle which I rode to work on and everywhere else. I am now 71, and battle these conditions every day. Perhaps there is a short-term advantage to using a weight above the hips, but the long-term cost is not worth it.
