If the lymphedema allows you to reach, you can do the bandaging yourself. You can buy basic heavy duty emollient inexpensively. If you have crusties you can disinfect them with a session of a sopping wet towel of vinegar. You can start on all or any of this now.

moving around wouldn't help. this is fluid buildup from poor circulation, not fat. eventually, he might get put on a good diuretic. at least he hasn't developed bad varicose veins.

@@kalevala29 I understand the fluid build up. Nevertheless, he still has a good amount of fat on his body, too. And that is what I was talking about -- that if he could find a way to lose some of the weight, it would be at least easier to move around a bit more, which could help with the circulation.

My friend has lymphedema in one of his legs. It can be greatly reduced however it requires consistent wrapping and wearing of compression garments. Due to the strenuous effort for him, he doesn’t keep up with the regimen and then his leg swells again. I hope one day this condition can be treated more easily.

Putting on the bandages requires help. I was told I had lymphedema at one point and went through PT to treat it. They showed me how to put on the bandages, but I found it impossible to put them on myself. The bandages just fell and bunched up, which caused more pain. I was somehow expected to re-use one single set of bandages every day for months. It got pretty gross. The bandages didn’t really survive after I tried to wash them. It seems like this gentleman had a lot more assistance going through the therapy and the bandages they used looked like a huge improvement over what I was given. In the end, I think my problem was caused by long term high dose steroids. Once I stopped them, the fluid drained.

@@caroljones9438 As far as emollient creams talk to your local pharmacist. The building blocks of something helpful & soothing for skin are: humectant, oil, vapour barrier. For me, all I need is a basic humectant (something that attracts and holds water). I use pharmacy glycerine; I put it in a spray bottle. Others find an oil works best, you can get pharmacy grade mineral oil, and use a squirt bottle to apply. Vapour barrier, plain vaseline is beautiful for spot use. Any cream will always have a component of these building blocks. But if you have severe allergies the above (plain: glycerine, mineral oil, or vaseline) will be a great starting point.

Lymphedema sucks, I can't imagine what it's like to have this severe form of it, really terrible. I had multiple reaccurring infections in the genital area that were accompanied with severe left groin pain and vomiting which caused chronic penile lynphoedema. The swelling was terrible but much less severe in terms of how it looked than this patient thankfully. I'm now getting every month Penicilin injections to prevent potential infections to let the area recover, it's much better now but it's no joke. Glad he found an effective treatment for it, and big applause to his wife for taking care of him!

I have about about % 5 of this look but it's just cause I'm obese. My feet look normal. If I scratch off the skin, it will in about 2 days do some little bubble filled little pockets. Then I put iodine on it and then two days they're gone. I don't understand what I've got. no doctor will tell me anything.

Are you diabetic or have a problem with your immune system? Low in vitamins that help your skin? I’m not a doctor but it sounds like you’re getting reoccurring skin infections. You should try get it swabbed to determine type of bacteria 🦠 but iodine is a good shout. Collidial silver is great too and might even prevent this from happening. X

We've found that our circulation problems definitely are affected from diet, and environment, if the cause could be toxins in the body from the food we eat we've been experimenting with elimination diets to see what helps us feel better, so far, vegetarian diets make us feel worse and we've been doing better on increased meat proteins, less cheese and dairy, but good with eggs and steak, well ground beef and lamb. I've been avoiding non organic foods like the plague, and severely limiting the intake of any wheat product, and definitely no commercial grains, the commercial grains appear to make everything worse for me. Also reducing sugar intake to help with the function of my kidneys and heart, the swelling getting goes down when my legs up, and to facilitate draining, this usually is 1 to 2 hour lay down on the couch, at least twice a day, and a good lay-down on my right side, and then of course a quick trip to the loo is most necessary. Working on getting Muscle strength up in the legs etc so important to help with the body's circulatory system. So for now, for me, it's reclining on the couch, standing more, and less cutting off of circulation from sitting. long road. god bless the clinic for helping him! falling is not an option here, and don't fall, as it complicates life terribly with back injury.
