Dr. Comicus by A Modern Syntax -- A Parody of a Parody

Dr. Comicus by "A Modern Syntax" is a parody of Dr. Syntax by William Combe, which is in turn a parody of real historical figure William Gilpin. In this video I share a bit of background and then we flip through our copy.

I love the illustrations! I think I understand the basis for parodying Gilpin, but what would be the basis for parodying Combe’s book?

It was a layered Joke. I see it similarly to when a meme today references more than one thing at a time.

The absent-minded professor rides into town on a horse too small for his stilt like legs. It is a lot of fun to poke ridicule at such characters, who've been with us for many many years. Nice to see you in your natural habitat, Andreea.

Thank you for joining me here too! Honestly, the history of this book was too much. I laughed out loud one too many times
