Thinking that our son had sent us a gift. Little did we know that it was his lifeless body lying in a casket. Yes, it has broken our hearts, the lake has gone quiet in mourning. Everybody has come out on its shores to bid the son of the soil goodbye. We are raising up our paddles saluting our son, saluting our fallen hero. With each dropping tears, we are holding our fishing nets to signal our Ogolla-that he has reached home. We are singing victory songs, the songs which were sung by our forefathers. When they arrived at the lake-songs to welcome our Francis back home. We will not cry, our mothers will not wail, because our Ogolla is not dead, he has just fallen. Someday our Francis will stand up again. And if you happen to see Tom Mboya, if you happen to meet Robert Ouko, if you happen to talk to Dr Odhiambo Mbai and Orwa Ojode. Tell them that, we haven’t forgotten about them. They will forever be in our hearts. Jowi-jowi-jowi. Rest in peace the son of the lake…
