Colonel Carp lives with his wife, Larisa, a gynaecologist and their son, Andrey in a large house in the city. Apart from his demanding job in the military, the colonel loves to hunt and fish, which takes him away from home for long periods of time. However, it is his love of other women that is the real cause of his absences and his marital problems. With this example to follow, it is no surprise that the children are also proving unlucky in love. Daughter Veronica has fallen in love with the wrong man while son Andrey is following in his father’s footsteps and gaining a reputation as a ladies’ man.
When the colonel is told by his superiors that his family is to be relocated to a small flat, he decides the easiest solution would be to marry Andrey off. Andrey has no shortage of girlfriends but all of them refuse to marry him. However, there is one exception - Sonja, a plain girl and not Andrey’s usual type, wants to be his wife and, although Andrey is initially horrified by this prospect, his father encourages him to give her a chance. As Andrey and Sonja become better acquainted, he finds himself falling in love with her. It seems the colonel’s plan is finally coming together - until, that is, Larisa suddenly announces that she is leaving him for another man. Maybe the colonel’s new flat will be sufficient after all!

This is a great comedy; absolutely hilarious. Great in the way it combines social crytical analysis with humour, imagination, and even a touch of romanticism. Reminded me of some great older italian comedies.

As usual, yet another excellent Russian TV-movie, nothing to do with US or Western European TV.-movies. Too bad you did not keep the title in Russian, because this title spoils the content quite a bit.

Name of the film translated quite frivolously. Original film is called Karasi (Караси). Отличный фильм - Смотрю и вспоминаю Юрия Степанова. Елена Яковлева - in one of the best role.

One thing is common in most of the Russian films, have you noticed? fasten seatbelts are not used at all ! I’m always about to get a heart attack...by watching while/how they’re driving....🤔 I wonder if the use of it was not compulsory in the 21st century?? Btw at 54.38 в бутылке если бы джинн / the girl meant what if a ‘ j i n n ‘ ( instead of gin - the drink ) was in the bottle, haha 🤣

looks like chekov was right about russian women. a man is better off without the kind of woman who informs the husband of the divorce at the first wedding of one of their children. I wonder if the author approved of that behavior or if the author is trying to show that the wife is also deeply flawed

That was his karma . Never gave her priorities. Never respect her. Always cheated on her . But she always forgive her for sake of children. Now children are mature she didn't need him and take this incident as her revenge for humiliation she suffered

I knew it! Timoshenko is hot!
Well the husband and the son and daughter would do better with the wife and mother for she was controlling. He did as she said because his love for her that why the son was acting out and daughter look for a married man to have an affair with a very dysfunctional family. I did enjoy the movie and thinks the English subtitles.
