So I've been downsizing and upgrading.
- Downsizing: selling a ton of stuff: • So... I sold "ALL" my ...
- Upgrading: getting a Sony A7 IV
Many might disagree with my choice, so let's keep it civil in the comment section.

Yes, we are all different with different aims and fancies when it comes to equipment. Like your old setup, I have two lens mounts and a variety of lenses. On the A7III the Sony 35mm f1.8 and Sigma 24mm are my most used. The Sigma because it is compact and lightweight. Like you, I could do with just the Sony but I choose not to, because I enjoy using my other kit and because I can. It’s a hobby and I enjoy it. My main wish going forward is to learn how to better use the video facilities and, most of all, to master the editing of videos which I do find a chore.

Absolutely, if you enjoy your setup that's what matters. Whether that's three systems and a ton of lenses or just an iPhone, that's fine 👍👍 I haven't mastered it, but I do greatly enjoy the editing process 😊

Good on you Roger. I look forward to hearing /seeing your evaluations and comments regarding your experience of the A7 IV body and lenses for the Sony FE mount/system. I like to shoot stills. Have not tried videoing. I "get " your rationale for the change. I have only ever properly "managed" one system or format at one time. And never more than one lens plus a set of extension tubes. Even then, I did not like it when I found that a period had passed during which time I had not used my gear and I needed to recharge the battery. This felt wrong to me. However, that is just me, possibly at a certain point of time in my life. I do not think that you needed to provide us with the rationale for your decision to make this change.

Thanks! Providing the rationale makes a good excuse for a video 😁 There will be certainly more A7 IV content moving forward. It might be fairly video centric, but I hope you find some useful content 👍🏻

Congratulations, Roger! In my opinion you have made a good decision. You know I did something similar some time ago. I'm fine with ditching a bunch of lenses and accessories (and in my case just an out-of-date camera body), especially if the change is focused on a new and up-to-date camera and frequently used (quality) lenses. Anyway, I have seen your evolution in photographic and video equipment, and I imagine that you will continue to "try out" new gadgets. Otherwise life might be boring. I want to see results in videos on your channel! It is always very interesting to know your opinion about news, techniques and curiosities. Good videos! very good channel! Greetings.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm not sure all my cameras would add up to an A74, but I've got an X100V coming in. Maybe I can sell the X100T and get enough for a set of wide and tele adapters. Ha 😁

It's just a matter of piling up gear throughout years, and then when you actually pile them up it can get scary. In my case, A7 IV scary :D

Congrats to you, Roger!!! I hope this setup will make you happy... 😊 My suggestion for prime lens to you is Viltrox 35 f/1.8👍🏻 Very good and not very expensive lens with your favourite focal length 😊

I may or may not have found a 2nd hand Sony 35m f/1.8 which had a discount in the 2nd hand price 😬😊

I think you missed a great opportunity to try out the Fuji X-H2S. I had the A7 IV and yes, a great camera but the Fuji offers so much more, for more or less the same price. Autofocus? Yes. the Fuji is very very good and if you tweak it, it's even better. Future firmwares will iron out things further. Just my opinion.

Fair enough! I do enjoy Sony bodies and color science (yes, I know... 😅) So the ecosystem is very familiar to me. Also, what the XH2s offers that the A7 IV (as far as I understood) is higher frame rates in 4K for which I have no use. With all that said, I'm sure that for some the XH2s is actually better at all those things, and that's why it's so great that there's so much choice 👍🏼😊

That's a fair comment. Mind you, am starting to get fed up carrying bulky heavy bodies so I may go back to Sony A6600 ;)

Damn! This is the exact combo that I wanted to get but both the price and the inferior stabilization convinced me to stay with micro 4/3s but upgrade my camera from em10 mkiii to em1 mkii. I was just afraid that if I had to move around to film my kids, the stabilization on a7iv would fail me.

I hear you, and MFT does have some other advantages as well: smaller and cheaper lenses, and less shallow depth of field. Yes, I know it's usually seen as a drawback but for moving subjects it can actually help getting shots. About the stabilization, I can share my thoughts as I do have small children to chase around as well. You want the best stabilization, but sometimes it's anyway not good enough. So you get a gimbal. But they're so damn annoying to setup and use that unless you're shooting a movie you don't want to get near them, so you realize that the OK stabilization was actually pretty great :D For running around any camera stabilization will struggle somewhat. For a steady walk Olympus/Panasonic do win, but Sony full frame are pretty decent. What makes a bigger difference, in my opinion, is rolling shutter because you'll be running around panning sideways. For that the A7 IV isn't great, and the A7 S3 is much better, and also the Fuji XH2s (for what I've read). I can't remember anymore how good/bad the EM1 mk II is in that regard. Not sure if I'm being helpful or making your life more difficult :D

@@RogerinFinland You are definitely helping :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts, nothing is like first-hand experience from someone who has tried different brands. You are very right about gimbals. I also have a ZV-1 which I use with a gimbal but I know if I have a camera with good stabilization, I am more likely to use it instead of my phone for taking videos.

Well, I can live with the fact that there's always some money/value lost when buying and selling gear. Also, because they were vastly unused I definitely prefer the current less-cameras-and-lenses setup 👍😊

What do you think about sony FX30? 😇

  • @RogerinFinland

    @RogerinFinland

    Жыл бұрын

Well, it hasn't been released yet 😊 so hard to tell. The rumors say it'll be basically an FX3 with an APS-C sensor. That will make it the best Sony APS-C for video, likely with high frame rates, high bit rates, 4:2:2, 10bit which is nice. It might come without IBIS, which I could give up for internal NDs and a body like an FX6. Personally I'm not much of a fan of the FX3 form factor in the cinema line. I prefer either the hybrid (A7 IV, S3, etc) or the bigger cinema form factor (FX6, FX9, FS5, FS7, etc).

How does the A7IV stack up to the zcam e2 s6?

Oh no, this question will get me intro trouble 😱 I have to put them head to head some day, but let's start by saying that they are different beasts. Form factor, features, codecs, sensor size... What I'm curious is image though. I love both, that's all I can say before taking a closer look 👍🏻👍🏻
