DOWNHILL: Crushing the Running World Record on Etna’s Volcano | Salomon TV

Спорт

Retired from pro mountain biking but still hungry for adrenaline and the thrill of adventure, Salomon Running Team Manager Greg Vollet, alongside Salomon Running athlete Ana Cufer, who specializes in downhill running, team up to take on one of their toughest challenges yet: to break the downhill running world record on Etna an active volcano with a downhill that has 1,000m of vertical descent and 2.5 km of the trail is covered with recent volcanic ash.

This is amazing!!! I lived in Sicily for 3 years and Mamma Etna is such a magical mountain! I once ran from the base station of the cable car to the highest point you can reach without a guide and back down ... it was so much fun!! Is that on the southern slope? Is the route available somewhere? Need to run that also next time I am in bella Sicilia

Salomon TV. Great idea of showing athletes of different ages! Very inspiring to see that you can still perform great in your forties! P.S. Do you know the approximate weight of Ana and Greg? Many people think that fast downhill is only (healthy) possible if you are very light.

Went to Guatemala last month and ran down Acatenango volcano. Wasn't planned but that kind or pebbly, rough, almost sand like gravel is super fun to run. You can almost shoe ski it down. I wouldn't mind trying to sandboard that. Wish I knew before I went.

In Japan there is much faster time for 1000m downhill on Mt Fuji. The 7th leg of the Mt Fuji Ekiden is 3.6km, D- 1017m and every year the winner is under 8mn. Record is 7:08

  • @nicoder6

7:08 for 3.6k seems crazy fast (less than 2 minutes per km, so more than 30km/h), are you sure?

@@elbjapon6519 interesting, according to wikipedia the 3000m world record is 7:20 : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3000_metres (but maybe you can do that and 600 more meters faster with the downhill, impressive)

The strava top, Shunsuke was the 5th time on that day, 20 sec behind Nagasato. But 2017 was not a fast year (it depends on the terrain condition some years you havw more lose rocks than others, or after the rain it can be more difficult)
