Douglas Murray slams Oxford Uni college scrapping St George's Day event for Eid banquet
Author Douglas Murray has weighed in on Magdalen College at Oxford University scrapping its St George’s Day event and replacing it with an Eid dinner to mark the end of Ramadan.
“We had Ramadan lights up across Oxford Street this year thanks to Sadiq Khan and others,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“St George’s Day, there … doesn’t seem to have been a cross of St George in sight.
“And some of this comes … very close to home. The college that made this decision at Oxford is my old college, Magdalen.
“I read this with amazement because I’m all for being inclusive … but part of the point of freedom of religion is you don’t force other people into following your rules.”

And given what has happened in the past 24 hours or so in the USA, you can throw the University of Texas at Austin into the mix, along with the University of Southern California and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. So far as the latter two are concerned, my impression is that it's par for the course, so no surprise there. I'm most disappointed about Texas, though.

Lots of state school kids going to Oxford these days and the private schools also have free places- Eton has loads- and Oxford works them extremely hard! The thing is the woke culture that’s got into too many universities and the weak church that won’t stand up for their values.

When I was in Primary School we would celebrate St. George`s day every year. Btw I am 24. In High School this never happened. I am saddened to say I alongside my sister were the final generation to experience St. George`s day celebrations in an educational establishment. This primary school I attended was in Harrow btw. As final words, the moment you remove Patriotism from any nation, your nation will start losing their identity.
Im very glad to say Anzac Day appears to be alive and well in South Australia. The young joined in too.😊

here is an interesting situation. I am an English man and I am married to Indonesian woman who is the Muslim. She finds it disgraceful that in our country we do not celebrate our national Saints day St George’s Day. She finds it appalling that we don’t celebrate that. This year is the first time I really did celebrate her and proudly warm my and rugby shirt to work that day, I don’t nobody commented on my attire. Muslim 'men' are allowed to marry people of the book i.e Christian or Jewish women provided they learn about Islam and convert. A Muslim woman isn't allowed unless the man converts ... Marriage to Hindu or Sikh is completely forbidden But today a lot of interfaith marriages take place which will not be valid under Islamic law....esp in India where Muslim men marry Hindu women and vice versa.... Absolutely disgraceful! St George's Day is being removed all across the country and it needs to be stopped. My St George 🏴 is flying proudly and I will never be told that I can't fly my flag in my country.
Why don’t the people fly the union flag from their homes like the Americans if they can fly the Ukrainian flag why not ours I know they do Because I have seen them , or will that be racist to I admire the Americans for their pride in their country ,sadly we have no pride left.
For the sake of the west, Britain really needs to advocate and campain on THEIR Indigenous Rights.
As Rita said, it is but one example. GBNews reported that a school in London sent parents a note saying that on St George’s Day the school would be celebrating Spanish Language Day and invited students to come to school dressed in the colours of the Spanish flag, red and yellow. How do they get away this? Also, Douglas Murray said he didn’t know where the parents of the student who took Ms BirbalSingh’s school to court found the money. They received legal aid, £150,000 of tax payers money. The school is so bad, the mother has now applied to send her younger daughter there. She also said that she will be bringing a further legal action, (a new case, not necessarily an appeal of the first case). Why wouldn’t she, when we, the taxpayer mugs are footing the bill?
I may not agree with Douglas Murray on many things, but I am with him on this.

The Michaela school has succeeded because it concentrates on what unites the pupils instead of what divides them. A model that should be followed by all schools in the country.
Interesting, only one religion opposed the rules and regulations, the attitude being that all will conform to us, the danger is not looming on the horizon, it's already here, best we take the fight to them.
We left England. But it's just as silly here in Australia. Post-colonial guilt trips everywhere.

When I first arrived in this country and went to school, I was surprised that there were no national symbols. No portrait of the Queen, no flags, no singing of national anthems, no patriotic oaths... Etc etc. When I asked the young English teacher, she said that some see the symbols as racist or contentious?! I said to her, that if you allow your symbols to be used exclusively by those people, that's what it's going to mean for a lot of people. I was 13. Years later it has gotten crazy.... My old country, every morning in school, flag ceremony. We sung the national anthem and made our pledge. Foreign students did not receive a pass. They had to stand to attention through the whole thing (10-15min). If they didn't, they were suspended or the parents called in. As far as the schools were concerned, anybody living with us are with us, not apart or aside from us.
What a disgrace. When the Oxford students become adults, get a job and start paying taxes - they can have a voice. In the meantime they need to grow up and learn the ways of the real world.
Thank you both for bringing us the story of this amazing teachef and her amazing achievement of the school she heads! Discipline, back to basics, high standards set for students to aspire to and above all, adult assertion of being in the lead for children and guiding them on their path of growth, intellectually, emotionally, socially. Children are not left to flounder. They receive clear direction.
