It was pain when it was live, it is now nostalgia when old. We might have cursed the batsman at that time, but we are now sending blessing to this guy for this innings specially coming when chips were down. 50 from 20 odd balls, I can't even see such score in international T20 these days. Douglas Marriliar, this name no one will forget who were mature enough to watch cricket in the past era.

I don't understand why do most cricket pundits credit Dilshan for the ‘scoop', in fact it was Doug Marrillier who first played it. BTW I remember this match and series very well Zim came within biting distance of series win, final score 3-2 in favour of India.

When I wathced this live I was devastated. Now when I see this now, sort of made peace with it. Marillier was brilliant against a very fine Indian bowling attack. He hit Kumble and Zaheer without any mercy. Nerves of Steel.

This guy should be awarded by all modern leagues and ICC for introducing this modern style of batting

Every cricket or team has one day in their career. Recently Afghanistan defeated Australia in T20 WC. Had any one think before that one-day Afghanistan will defeat Australia. But it does happen once in a life time. That was DOUGLAS day. only one innings. Can you write me his same type of innings in any other match? When India batting was very strong, India was 30/5 in 1983 world cup against Zimbabwe, when there were Gavaskar,Ravisastri ,Srikanth and others. At that time Zimbabwe was like a 1 month baby.

I remember watching this game live. Zaheer had impecable bowling figures before his second spell. This game was 3 days before my birthday and I was utterly devastated by India's defeat. I think the series was tied at 2-2 and Dinesh Mongia scored 159 in the final game that helped India win the series.

I still remember this game. I was a kid who just started watching cricket and this game developed a great interest in me and love for cricket.

I still remember watching this match Live in Doordarshan from Faridabad. I also remember Rahul Dravid attempting the doug scoop in the next match of this series.. Zim was one of the toughest team to beat back then.. Cricket has lost its charm certainly with team like them becoming a victim of politics and yes because of IPL also..

I have to say this...tailender batting needs to be divided into 2 eras: Pre-Marillier and Post-Marillier. No one had ever witnessed the kind of batting display that Douglas dished out that day. Also in a way, this guy kind of revolutionised "unsophisticated but effective" batting and people suddenly became bolder and tried many new shots that has made Cricket what it's today.

I have seen a lot of IPL but never seen something like this even at this era after losing 8 wickets and you need around 12 per over and still you won the game and look at the batsman, he kept his cool and finished it like a charm 😮 This is one of the best finishing I have ever seen ❤

मेने ये मैच देखा था तब में बोहत छोटा था कभी जीवन मे इस मैच को नही भूल सकता। बडा दुख होता है जब इस महान बल्लेबाज को इस शॉट का क्रेडिट नही दिया जाता। और ना इसका नाम लिया जाता है । dil scoup , misbah और बाकी सारे तो बोहत साल बाद आये और इस शॉट को अपने नाम कर लिया। दिलशान और बाकी सरो की माँ का भसडा जो 1 बार भी नही कहा कि यह शॉट तो हमसे पहले ही डगलस लगा चुका था।

I watched this match live in the stadium in Faridabad, the memory of this match is etched in everyone's mind who were there in the stadium. India was on the top all the way before Doug Marillier snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, chasing 275 in those days was no mean feat.

I saw this match live...we were absolutely shocked..never seen such shots being played before..never...one of the most amazing display of unconventional shots...!!

For a short stint his shots were called Marillier shot... But this innings had a great impact in cricket universe.. he headlined the news papers that week

Remember how heartbroken I was after this match. I was in 4th standard when it was played and now I am gonna get married this year. How time flies!

Still remember this from my childhood. Didn't remember the name of the batsman, but somehow searched it and came to this video. Still have those flashes of those scoop shots towards fine leg. Absolutely CLASSY display of batsmanship.

Zimbabwe played 6 Test matches in 2013, and won 2 of them, against Pakistan and Bangladesh. Clearly that shows the more Test Cricket you play the better you get. Zimbabwe Crickets last 5 Test match results are quite good. They managed a draw against the West Indies, & beat Bangladesh in Bangladesh comfortably. And lost the other 3. Aside from the South Africa Test, they pushed West Indies and Bangladesh in both losing tests. Not to mention that in 2017 before the West Indies series. Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka 3-2 in the ODI Series, and nearly beat them in the Test Match.

He was a real freak and this innings of his was decades ahead of time. He played scoop and stuff way before anyone had even thought of it, let alone plan for it. No wonder Indian bowlers and the captain himself were all at sea in the face of this unprecedented assault by a relatively unknown entity. I myself was too shocked to react at that time when this happened, something scarcely believable for me.. but now when I look back it .. I can't help but just marvel at the audacity and innovativeness of this wonderful innings by the champion player.. Douglas Marillier.. I wished he played many more such innings and got due respect that he well and truly deserved. His name got etched in my mind after that innings.

old Zimbabwe team is good team. Andy, grand flowers, heath streck,olanga, doglos Hondo, super team. and I watch this match 17 year ago, India won the series.. 2-3

Kya match tha wo... behtarin, is vedio se wo match yad aa gya..

Most striking thing for me was also how he celebrated even after the win..Usually we see over the top celebrations when something miracle like this is done

In the evening, just after watching this game, me with my friends tried to imitate this ramp shot while playing gully cricket, calling it the Marrilier shot.

I remember watching this live on TV when I was like 10 years old or something. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Little did I know there'd be a whole new format invented to accommodate this type of innovative cricket. Little did I know I was watching a seminal moment in the history of the game.

At the time I was crying after zim won... Still I'm crying after watching this highlight 😂😭😭😭😭

I have watched this game live on tv. I saw him playing this type of shot and I was like wtf is happening. India have lost that match. I still remember in that series after that match rahul dravid also tried to play that shot.

Reverse sweep, Dil Scoop, upper cut, and many other blah blah shots even before they were named. I can never forget this match. It was just unbelievable

Amazing times of cricket wwrev well fought Zimbabwe wwre very competitive. Merilier playing shot twenty years back what played today .real inventor just oike Suryakumar he us targeting behind the wicket very unheard of that time this match i watched very good series. Watching odi bilateral were too much fun than today .times changed good memories of watching amazing good cricket

Harshvardhan Trivedi Yuvi made a thunderous comeback in the last two one dayers with a 70 and 80 odd, I think mongia scored a 150 in the last odi of the series at Guwahati, if my memory serves me right :),I was in 6th standard then and was as shocked
