Doug was an inspiration to anyone who ever thru a leg over any motorcycle, and raced long before he had to show us that he was one of the toughest guys to ever race AMA MOTOCROSS,I tell anybody who I can I got to see him race at my local track and I looked up and saw this YAMAHA YZ125 and just as I was saying to my self who the heck is this guy,the announcer at the race say Doug Henry so I focused him for the rest of the race, because I rode race and just started racing motocross he had his own style and just as we say in racing,he ride the wheels off his Yama dog because back in those days I think Doug was the only PRO on a YAMAHA and that were not the fastest bike at the pro level so Doug had to use his talent to make up for a bike that was not the fastest one out there but the rider on it was,I think it was Doug s first year as a PRO and learned a lot that day because I rode pretty much the same exact way,I laughed, its great to hear younger guys like Travis say how they looked up to Doug is was an unbelievable talent from the start and then he got the well deserved factory ride at Honda, and he proved it was not a mistake...Thanks Doug

"For a good husband" "Time to grow up" He's got no clue the sacrifice it takes, even at the amateur level. It was a job since I was 10, until I turned 16, got my ama pro license....got hurt outdoors trying to qualify for the motos. I realized I wasn't anywhere near the level it takes to make a living, nor did I have the equipment. I was just burning through my parents money, with no money coming in as a privateer, and now I needed multiple surgeries which was expensive....and as a young racer trying to make a career out if it one day, it's all or nothing from everyone involved. Racing came before anything else, it has to, so there was no plan B... Moto was all i knew, and to say i was lost was an understatement, plus, i felt like a failure. I'm just lucky I came to that realization relatively fast, unlike majority of privateers who race 10 years as a pro, beating their bodies up and nothing to show for it. Although, I do wish now I would have healed up and came back to try my hand at Supercross...just to get the experience. I still dream of doing that.
