Its a manual turbo car.. it needs to be partial in boost when launching otherwise is will be seconds slower 😮 This showed nothing of what the f40 could do.. carwow did roll racing with them alot better..! I must say that ruf was clearly faster and the viper was faster than i thought.

The F40 is a track car, not a dragster. Nothing in Ferrari's history would make a good dragster. Their clutches would fail after the 2nd race.

It's a shame. These things are so expensive where they can't really launch them.

Thanks to modern technology, the things we can afford (sort of) can out perform the super cars we dream of from our poster bedroom walls. 😎👍🏿 like Doug’s Mercedes e-class wagon with 3 row seating and a baby seat.

...The F40 runs a 13.5 against the NSX but by the time the Viper came up it was running 16.4? Umm....even on a bad launch that's terribly slow.

I advise redoing this as a rolling race! Perhaps over a longer track, it would make the race more interesting, and would reduce the risk of damaging the clutch!

The F40 driver respect too much the car. Push it! She will love it and reward accordingly

I'll say what we're all thinking...That F40 owner is one heck of a good sport!

That CTR was insane, 130 mph trap speed is the same or faster than some modern supercars

Drag races are pointless if the drivers aren’t willing to lay it all on the line! Babying off the line to save the clutch, is not going to reveal true results.

Drag races are pointless period. 0-60 times are well known already, it would be much more interesting to see these iconic cars setting lap times around a track

Well yes but old Ferraris are known for breaking their rear diffs and roasting their (extremely expensive) clutch when doing a full launch, so most owners obviously aren’t going to be fully launching their car 15+ times in one day.

If they were so worried about the F40's clutch they should have gone from a 20 roll or something. As a Viper owner it was still painful to see an F40 get towelled up by pretty much everything :(

What is with the F40 start!?

Came for the Viper. F40 and Viper are my childhood passions.. finally bought a Viper. Waiting on the funds for an F40 now hahah

I expect the Viper has a lot more low down torque to get it off the line than the F40 - their 0-60mph times are almost the same and then the F40 starts to gain?

As I remember, F40 is the first car which can reach 200MPH, in all tech specs its top speed specified as 201MPH. So why in the video top speed mentioned as 197MPH?

I guess 201 mph was never reached in independent tests by car magazines etc.

the top speed was from 197 mph 315 to 199 mph / 319 km/h gps top speed. It never recorded 324 km/h on gps. But on speedo yes.

A camera and/or microphone near the engine bay and exhaust would be an awesome perspective to hear those beautiful sounds! For next time :)

The F40 got as low as 13.2 but then was a second slower against the Porsche Ruf. There should have been a F40 vs Ruf final at the end.

Watching the Yellowbird walking the F40 is beautiful its an older car and still they launched it like it was the 1980s while the fragile Ferrari was caressing the steering wheel

I really wish, considering the level of cars and presenter, this had better production quality. Cool concept, but no effort in making it visually or auditorily appealing.

As soon as the boost builds up in the F40 it just takes off and passes from behind.

The NSX was a super car until the Viper came out and smoked it by 2 seconds in the 1/4

What's with the exposure throughout the video? looks like it was severely underexposed and brought back up in post.

I've seen F40s make 12 seconds up to 14 seconds. So it's clear it depends on the driver....

For about 49 seconds, it all seemed OK... and then u added some background music!!! :))) WTF guys.. NO!!!

i think there was something wrong with the 930 either the driver or mechanically like the turbo was bad. these are all museum cars so i would think they were babying a little bit

As long as the F40 is driven by a driver, who don't wanna use the full potential of the car, this video is useless... :-) Rolling start is much better, if you don't wanna stress the clutch. The audio is another thing - you can do better... :-)

Fun video - RUF was moving. But really bad editing I must say - 1) Doug saying that the NSX F40 race looked close and explained why that might be… and the car got by boat raced by 2 full seconds in that run 😂, 2) one of the captions was “,PH” instead of MPH. Comma right next to the M key

The RUF wasn't from the factory technically, so it's sort of a "duh it's faster". That gen 1 Viper was a surprise!!

Not really,they should've probably had the Porsche 959,the real competitor to the F40 and i believe it's faster then this yellow ,,Porsche,, ,so i believe it is somewhat legitimate since they could've had a faster Porsche in the race if they wanted to

The Ferrari F40 has 500 + and RUF CTR also have 500 + bhp in real world. their 478 bhp and 469 bhp are just for press.

Based on this an F40 does a quarter mile at the pace of a Golf R

If the driver of a car is not going to even try and be competitive, what’s the point of the race?

For the sake of this video that F40 should have been launched properly. This is just driving away... proves nothing.

@@PetersenMuseum You obviously know NOTHING about F40, The F40 would destroy viper in both drag race and circuit, it has better top speed and lap times than RUF, best motoring did it and it destroyed them both, it is also faster than F50, Diablo SV, Carrera GT, Murcilago, XJ220, Ford GT40, and EB110, do your research, watch some videos, read some articles about micheal schumacher driving them all, it would would destroy them all on a circuit, the f40 owner is too afraid, your video is pointless

Um, let's do an actual track comparison next time. These were "road cars" designed to handle all the chassis and power-train duty-cycle dynamics of, 'ya know, the road--not a drag strip. I understand the economic risks involved, but one might as well compare a highly-specialized SR71 Blackbird against a versatile F-35B on straight-line acceleration. Nice video, but this isn't just apples to oranges, it's cumquats to grapefruits.

C'mon, what's the point in these races if the F40 keeps cocooning it's clutch?? WTF so an F40 clutch is expensive. Ok but you are a god damn billionaire! See the F40 run low 11's quarter mile times back in the days at best motoring, that is it's true potential not these so called races...

There is a difference of almost 30 years and the fact that in the past such strong and large engines in civilian cars were frowned upon, people were afraid that ordinary people would kill pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers... and they were right. Today, there are simply high-performance engines in family cars. In the past it was almost forbidden. Today, many cars are supercars, but with different bodies. This F40 needs an overhaul, it lacks power. This 470 HP is probably false. However, even in the 1990s it was believed that the F40 did not have enough power and larger engines than the small 2.9 liter one were put there. Also about 3.5 liters with turbo. Someone should check this power - whether it is real, one possibility is that Ferrari lied. In the LM races, these Ferraris had an exceptionally high number of engine failures with 600 HP. Ferrari suffered huge defeats. Unfortunately, the road version is a bit heavy for its power. The power that no one can confirm and the catalog results of 11.8 to 12.2 s/400m do not confirm the power either. So either the car is worn out or Ferrari is lying. Such small turbo engines need to be overhauled frequently, especially when used to such an extreme extent over 400m. The engines of old, powerful cars lasted very little, a maximum of several thousand kilometers of hard driving.

I don't care what people "claim" RUF isn't a car company. They're a tuning shop.

Too much mechanical sympathy. The people who can afford these cars, can afford to fix them. Inaccurate representations of these cars capabilities.

The Ferrari driver probably the owner is to scared to push that baby why drag race when you are afraid to push the car to its limits he takes off so gently and slow just like my grandma taking off from a traffic light. Poor car’s turbochargers didn’t even got a chance to even boost 1/2 psi.

Damn hes just so annoying......
