The Evo: Building The Ultimate Ferrari Dino
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Straight away you realize something’s a bit different about this Dino. The wheels are beefier, the arches are angrier, the sound it makes doesn’t sync with your memory of these cars (probably because there are two extra intake trumpets underneath the transparent engine cover), and while the badging looks factory-correct, you don’t think there was ever an Evo version of the mid-engined sports car named after Enzo’s tragic son.
The car is a one-off, and it’s part of the venerable collection of classic and modern Ferraris owned by collector David Lee. By borrowing a block from the F40, losing the turbos, boring it from 2.9 to 3.6L, and fixing twin banks of velocity stacks, David’s “Monza 3.6 Evo” is a naturally-aspirated screamer that combines modern performance with the Dino’s ageless style in a package that doesn’t compromise on either end.

This reaches car perfection for me. In my dream cost-no-option garage, it definitely has a permanent spot. Thank you David and the good folks at MotoTechnique for making such a wonderful gem.

No hydraulic jumping suspension Dont fill it with competition sound and light exhibits.....but they are after all production cars. I think of Dean Martins son Dino running around in a Ferrari P3 ex race car...detuned for street and a radio installed..... Very early Resto modding.... The Fiat Dino in original form was lacking in many areas. Love the design, but I agree with restoring cars to original if used as a driver. Why not enhance performance. Ever seen a 240Z with a 327? When done right it's a sweet drive.

where to begin.... IMO, the Dino itself is a work of art, until recently a very underrated car. David Lee the consummate gear head, petrol head, car guy, collector.... the man just does it right. To undertake a build of this level was obviously a labor of love, and passion for the hobby and himself, he didn't build it to sell it to make money; to take a car like this to this level was incredible! You really have to study the changes made to it, to really appreciate what has been done. Thank you Mr. Lee for commissioning this build and taking it to an artisan level of build quality, truly a one of a kind handcrafted build! Thank you for sharing with us mere mortals!!
David Lee is a national treasure... perhaps two nations’ national treasure? His collection is incredible, and his passion is infectious. 👏

I saw this car at The Quail. Really impressive in person, the kind of car where no detail was too small. David is a really nice and engaging person.
I love the flares and chairs edition of the dino so much. You took a very rare and expensive car and made it even rarer and worth more. It's not often one can take such a car and modify it and make it worth more but this is absolutely an exception. Good on you.

I've always been against modifying classical cars but this one makes me rethink that position.
David Lee had the patience and funds to get it just right but a lot of credit goes to the actual team who crafted the reworked car. Mototechnique based in Surrey, England overcame a lot of challenges and did so without making some bastardized thing. This isn't like the ungodly ugly works from Koenig Specials in 80's and 90's with ruined looks in exchange for crazy horsepower.

Love David’s passion for cars - whenever I see him and Jay Leno together it’s like watching a couple of kids playing with hot wheels but they’re using super cars to play with
Love the editing in this video.
Love the clear headlight covers..completes the lines of the car
I saw this car on Jay Leno's Garage, where they went over every detail of the car, thankfully people like David Lee and keeping these cars alive. Thankfully the days of taking the original engine out and replacing it with a Chevy 350 or a Ford 351. The sound of this car is music to the ears. Thank you David.
Fell in love with this beauty when I first saw it on Jay Leno garage... Great job... truly one of a kind... She's beautiful...!!!
I got to see this car at the steve mcqueen show this year and I thought it was a fairly common dino until the second time I walked around. I have to say it looks much better clean, and she sounds amazing. Impeccable build!
Excellent job with the audio, the sound of that engine is magnificent!
Beautiful job. I like David Lee. He was bold enough to try this and he picked out the right team to make it happen. Of course, much credit goes to those that worked out the details and made the actual build happen. Great job by everyone involved!!
I remember daydream shopping for Dinos on eBay when I was 16. They were going for $55k for a driver’s car and $75k for collector condition. The classics don’t get any younger, and there is a limited supply.

Well done David Lee and Petrolicious. I've seen videos of some of his other cars and they are incredible but this one is my favorite. To me this is the most beautiful car ever made. Now you have made it even better! Wow
I've never been much of a Ferrari lover and British sports cars have always floated my boat rather more than the Italian exotica but the Dino is my favourite Ferrari and what you have done here is tastefully enhanced what I believe was already the finest Ferrari ever made. The design is sublime, the sound is literally the best sounding road car engine I have ever heard (and I drive a TVR Griffith pre-cat V8 renowned for its engine sound). It's a work of art for sure, a masterpiece of auto engineering that makes me want to take every electric car ever made and bury them under the asphalt!! No electric motor will ever have the feel, the emotion, the fury and the passion of what you have done here - be proud and enjoy every mile in it...
Beautifully and perfectly done...thank you!
I first saw this car Leno's garage. Beautiful car and sounds great. Nothing like shifting gears on a mountain road. That's what's all about.
Beautifully designed Dino. The headlights covers look just perfect with the whole car shape, as it should have been made IMO. The wheels make the car look like in business again. And the ITB´s engine sound is amazing
Amazing. Thank you for honoring the legacy and yet highlighting the majesty that was in the original design. So great to see and hear this work of art. Modern cars just don't compare.

David, it's not often the stars align and an existing model is made better by clever substitution of parts. (In this case the V8 engine.) You sir have pulled it off. This particular Dino is now so much better than the original. Even the larger wheels look appropriate. My highest praise...a job well done.

Beautiful restoration. Very good job.
Visually stunning, aurally sublime. This, with my favourite espresso in the morning, is there anything better? NO! Thank you so much :).
I love this car, I've seen David Lee on Jay Leno's Garage many times with his different cars. I really dig the 2.9L V8 swap over those garbage V6s, but I would've definitely have kept the turbos. That being said, I give him alot of credit for going with individual throttle bodies with velocity stacks because it sounds ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. The bodywork, the wheels, the paint, the interior, it's all so beautiful.
Not a fan per say of Italian exotics but the Dino is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. What he's done is what good Hot Rodding is all about. Combining Classic style with modern reliability, drivability and power. 👏 Well done!

The Dino has always been my favorite car of all time. I have forever wanted one. I just don't have the means anymore as they are so expensive, and I already have a tuned 2017 M3 Competition - in San Marino Blue. But it just doesn't compare to a Dino. I dreamed of doing this to a Dino to make it more powerful and reliable. Now someone has done it and done it right. Your video made me weep a little.
