Another thing I didn't see anyone mention. Their two most recent albums apex and Abyss, are concept albums. Meaning that they tell a continuous story across the lyrics and feel of each some from the first, Awakening, to the last song on the next album. It's hard to explain, but this hits so much better when you marathon both albums. It's a roller-coaster of emotions and you get attached to the main character, and are invested in what's happening. It's like the music equivalent of watching a really good TV show.

Body language is an expression of singing it has nothing to do with overdoing it or being over-dramatical. It's the same when you have a guitarist who closes their eyes & makes facial expressions, they're feeling the music.

Thinking around ur tastes of genres in metal, I am impressed that no one point out bands like "All that remains", "Killswitch Engage", "All shall perish" and way more stuffs. Im not sure which songs should i pick from them to start a journey. But they are all so good holy f*ck. I really like Unleash the Archers. My fav song to ask for reactions is "Tonight we ride" from them. Thanks for ur honesty btw.

IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME! "Abyss" Open my eyes in a daze How long has it been? Am I so out of place? Warmth I can no longer feel My mountain is gone, I'm surrounded by steel The strangest of structures arises ahead Seems to be held up by nothing Where have I gone, do I dream? How can the stars be all I can see? Dark embrace Has someone awakened me? Please show your face Cold and quiet space Out so far beyond stars and the sun Filling my heart up with wonder, unknown Now, to the edge of imagination Open my eyes to phenomenon, and hope Feverishly I explore Searching for someone, there has to be more I can't be the only one here My path always guides me, there's nothing to fear Then why do I feel so immensely alone This can't be the end of my story Onward I go once again Fighting my way to my final breath Into the abyss Out so far beyond stars and the sun Filling my heart up with wonder, unknown Now, to the edge of imagination Open my eyes to phenomenon, and hope Summon the strength of millenniums past Forged by the fire and flame I am the weapon of empires vast Immortal is more than a name Out so far beyond stars and the sun Filling my heart up with wonder, unknown Now, to the edge of imagination Open my eyes to phenomenon, and hope Cry into the chasm ahead Into the sky never ending, although Time will tell if I'm worthy of it A future of final transcending, alone

Most singers (of multiple genres from this to opera to pop) who have a long note or a strong belt take the stance they do to open up as much as possible to get as much air. Watch different live singers /bands/opera and see how the singers stand. Similarities between them. All seem to over-do the arms and flair but who wants to watch someone ground themselves and do nothing lol. Great reaction vid.

@@DaddyGoose_CB: To let you know, you're right on the genre: UtA is power metal. However, I do have to tell you: UtA is somewhat about the cheesiness of music videos, lol. You gotta remember: Canadians have a weird sense of humor, sometimes. But Canadians as people are really nice. In addition, I don't know if anyone mentioned it, the Abyss album won the Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) for 2020 Metal Album of the Year. Next, you were talking about the pausing and slowing down in the music -- that's usually referring to what's known as a "bridge," which joins usually a chorus with a solo. Bridges can also join a verse with a chorus, depending on how the song is structured. Lastly, Brittney's voice and vocals. You said they fell flat at times; I have to disagree on that. Why? Because when the vocals seem flat, that's due to the register and timbre of the voice. And Brittney's singing voice is in between that of a alto and a soprano, being a mezzo-soprano ("mezzo" being music-speak for "middle"). Additionally, you mentioned the poses: Brittney does that for good reason, which is to get her brain to not think when she's singing. And to understand what I'm talking about, look up the following video: - Brittney Slayes, Queen of the Reich Karaoke Yes, the video is on a crap cell phone recording camera -- but Brittney Slayes is the real deal. She can do live what she does in studio. And, you'll see other poses in the karaoke video that also look weird, but it is all so her brain and vocal chords can do what they do, and her brain don't get in the way (as I heard some vocal coaches say). By the way, Brittney has even sung opera, as well. But the biggest thing is that one of her influences is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, a vocalist called "The Human Air Raid Siren." If you want to hear him, react to the following: - Hallowed Be Thy Name, Iron Maiden, live at the Hammersmith, 1982 And you will hear where Brittney gets the vocal style she has. P.S.: Funny you say "Sprint" is the Word of the Day. Now you gotta react to "Faster Than Light" by Unleash the Archers, as the video takes place with the band running a race around a track. Lol

So that hand movement at the beginning of Abyss that you said that made it a bit "over the top" is actually something a lot of bands make fun of themselves about. Some refer to it as "grabbing the orb of power" because it looks like they are holding on to a large invisible sphere. When you are belting that loudly and trying to sustain a note (happens a lot in power metal) it helps to stabilize your upper body. In most cases they would grab a mic stand or something, but when you don't have anything you grab the orb of power. Power Metal is also not my genre, but UtA and Sabaton both have multiple songs on my regular playlist because they're just that good. Both of these songs are on that list, as well as "Call Me Immortal," "The Matriarch," "Faster than Light" and "The Wind that Shapes the Land." All those songs have different sounds/vibes, so if you want to explore more of UtA I would recommend any of those.

IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME! AWAKENING To look up into the night's sky, to see the stars they are changed To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am the same This mountain hollow that keeps me in a suffocating embrace A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way Lo, a new master calls me to awakening, I know this one brings the end Far out beyond the darkness I've been living in it's true,

Call it an evolution of power metal. Music and art expand and change. These guys are awesome and have their own thing imo. Regarding any reaching out or what you might consider over the top movements, its just called performing dude - sometimes singers feel things and emote. You are often super judgmental on trivial things when there is huge creativity and talent in front of you.

The thing about power metal is that it's telling a story & the music is taking you on a journey so the music has to be to some degree, for lack of a better explanation, overexaggerated & flashy.

Dude her vocals are flawless! It would make zero sense for her to sing in a high pitch throughout the song because the music doesn't call for it. She has to maintain the correct pitch according to what the guitars are playing. In the verses it's her time to relax and carry the song the chorus is when she gets to shine in order to elevate the song.
