During my week's stay on the island of Lanzarote there were a few instances where the predominantly Northerly wind shifted round to an Southerly and South Easterly wind. On the 16th April this shift in wind occurred around midday prompting Air Traffic Control to use Runway 21 for operations. This is always interesting as the runway requires a non-precision or visual approach over high terrain with unpredictable winds and windshear.
Out of the 4 aircraft I filmed during the hour or so they were landing on Runway 21, two of them went around. Both of which were due to unstable approaches and being too high over the threshold. Subsequently both aircraft made successful second approaches to Runway 03 and landings on Runway 21 were suspended and did not recommence for the remainder of my week on the island.
