"Dope" drum solo only

Музыка

#drumsolo #drumset #drums
Excerpt from Katahj Copley's "Dope" played on 12/7/23 with the UAB Wind Symphony.
EDIT 1/13/24:
To answer some of the questions people posed in comments: the drums are Pearl Masters Maple series (5x14 snare, 8/10/12/14/16 toms, 22 kick) with Evans drumheads; yes, it is an improvised solo...the entire piece is around 18 minutes long (full video also on my page), and this part literally says "optional drum set solo" with nothing else indicated, so I'm not using the sheet music for this particular section; and lastly...YES, huge Neil Peart (and Rush) fan! Started playing drums 40+ years ago because of them, and the cross-sticking section is my NP tribute. Glad some of you noticed!

Boring, as a drummer, drum solos are largely unnecessary, just play the music,

I'm sorry, but I don't think it's good. I don't see much skill. It was not fluid but choppy instead. There was no life or energy in the solo. There was no rhythmic development. It was just pieces of first I play this, then I play this etc...

This is the oddest moment I've ever seen...a random drum solo in the midlde of a symphony orchestra. wtf
