A buddy of mine has an Orange Micro Terror that he ran for a couple of years through that 8 inch speaker. I set him up with a 2x12 with a Celestion G12T-75 and a G1265-Heritage. I still remember the grin on his face when he strummed that first power chord

I’ve got the Orange Micro Dark. Cool little amp, when I use that amp I run it into a 1x12 cab loaded with a greenback speaker. Takes pedals really well, I usually run a Fuzzlord FET120 & Russian muff in front of it. I’m thinking about since the Micro Dark has a effects loop is to run the FET120 in the loop with the FTW120 in the front. Another good budget option amp to check out is the Orange OR15. Oh one more thing about the Orange micro amps is if you’re going to a shop to check out some cabs is this amp is easy to carry so you can take it with you & carry your guitar to try out other cabs.

An fx loop is great. For an eq pedal, it won't really influence the "whole" tone imo, as the loop is a buffered solid state affair. How much you're influencing the tube tone, idk?

Got one since they launched. Used it mostly as a backup in case my Laney AOR fails live (it never did) and for home use. One very cool thing is that the first edition of that amp didn't have a cabsim on the headphone out. You can use the headphone out directly into a line input of your audio interface and use some goodf IRs with it. As it is a class D amp you don't even need a cab hooked up. Sounds very good that way, you should def. try it out! Over all it's a OK-ish amp, the amp distortion is not the best, it get's a decent volume and is loud enough for live playing if you use a 4x12 and get miced up. The amp sounds way better if you use a Greenback and a good overdrive or distortion pedal wioth it. I only use it at my parents house, if I'm staying over holidays. I use a Greenback 1x12 with a Fender Full Moon distortion into it, sounds rad with that setup! Maybe try a Joyo Meteor, apparently a OR clone mini head for around the same price of the Micro Terror. Or some other Joyo mini head.

My very first amp was the Micro Dark, the higher gain version of this. I had the matching cab too but ditched it pretty quick and used my dad's home built 1x15 bass cab that had an old JBL E140 in it. It's not my favorite amp anymore but I've kept it for nostalgia reasons because when my other amps broke down it was always there for me to jam on and I learned a lot of songs with it and wrote some of my first songs with it. With the new Terror stamp version and other pedal board amps they're a great option for a compact practice rig. By the way have you ever thought about modding one of these? There's not much inside them but without a schematic I've never tried it myself. Great vid as always man \m/

Late to this video but I play a 2W Vox Lil Night Train through a Greenback loaded Thiele style 1x12 and it is so nice with fuzz and some grit from the amp itself. The thick mode is very fun to play (bypassed tonestack) because of the added sustain. Never really gets high gain though.

i've been using a similar setup for my solo project: a terror stamp + a dv mark neoclassic 1x12 cab which can handle 150 watts at 8 ohms. recently, i came to the conclusion that i wanted more clean headroom, as well as a di out, to complement the rest of my solo setup (synths, drum machine, rc-505 looper etc.) which i run through a surprisingly loud 8" headrush frfr powered speaker. after trying out some dedicated power amps (hotone loudster, crate power block) as well as the super crush/crush pro heads at my local guitar stores, i ultimately went for a clean bass head from tc electronic, the bam200; now, i run the fx send from my terror stamp into the input jack of my bass head, with the gain at 10 o'clock & the rest of the settings all around noon, and it works great. those tc electronic heads are small, lightweight, and run around $150 (or abt 135 euros) via thomann, sweetwater etc. so i'd highly recommend checking one out if you're looking for a bit more oomph as well as flexibility in live settings/home recording.

I use the MicroDarkTerror into a 4x12 with Celestions and it is plenty loud by itself. That pre amp tube op amp section is awesome. I run a stereo rig with one side being dark Terror and the other side a Roland JC120. Some of the current pedals I use in this set up: Ehx BM Green Russian w/moscow mule mod, EQD Hizumitas, Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra, TC Mojo Mojo Paul Gilbert...are the dirt. Catalinbread Soft Focus, Echo Rec and Semiphore stereo, TC Transitions, TC Petrucci Chorus Flanger and a Walrus Slotva for modulation.

Almost picked up one of these to run on a single cab 12" Celestion V30 but I already had a Crush 20. I ended up modding the CR with a Swithcraft 12A for external cab use. Handles the low tuning fuzz a lot better than the stock 8". The Micro Terror does sound good though.

The Orange "Lunch Box" amps are serious tone machines for sure. Really trough to beat for the money when you consider how most people would wind up using them. In terms of other "Budget" amps... Joyo's Bantamp series came out a few years ago and they even made a Orange clone... Personally I'd like to hear a Fuzzlord pedal rig through a Joyo Blue Jay (their Fender style "clean" Bantamp). On paper that could sound soul crushing.

@Fuzzlord Effects Micro Dark is IMHO MUCH better than the Micro Terror. significantly higher gain. All knobs at 12, it's doomier out of the box. the dark has an equivalently good clean tone as well. Takes pedals like a champ, especially a TD or SD-1. With a Rat and/or a Super/Hyperfuzz, it's a fire-breathing monster.

I had a micro terror when they were first released. I played it through a 1x12 and it punched way above its price point. Another cheap amp you might wanna check out is the Boss Katana mini. My wife bought me one for livingroom jamming. I ran my Rat through the clean channel and also boosted the crunch channel with my Rat. I was able to coax some surprisingly good doomy tones out of it. It's only bottleneck is the small speaker. But for what it costs and that it's so portable, it's really killer for what it is. Great channel, Jason, as always.

I had the Micro Dark (The little black one). Changed the pre-amp tube to a Mullard C004 12AX7. The tube made a hugge difference in the fuzziness of the gain. And no matter the amp, I always play them through a 12" speaker. Not a big fan of 8" speakers. They don't have the "wind poewer" or the dynamic range I like. But good for practice.

I've had both this one and the Micro Dark. The Terror had more of an open sounding ala 1970's gain structure to my ears, while the Dark was a bit more scoopy in the mids with tons more gain on tap. Also, the Dark has an FX loop which makes it way more versatile for a night owl audio recording apartment dwelling DooM-Head (like myself). Simply run all your typical "front of amp" pedals into the like normal, run the FX loop "send" your recording interface. After that just boot up TwoNotes Wall of sound, find a power amp and cab IR combo you like, and you're good to go! Basically making it an affordable single loaded 12AX7 guitar preamp for silent recording. I will also add that I once put that tiny Micro Dark on top of a second hand 4x12 cab w/volume maxed, gain at around 7-8 o'clock with both an EQD Acapulco Gold along w/ the trusty ol'e plastic (sometimes controversial) Behringer Super Fuzz. It most definitely Doomed FYI. I'm willing to bet some of the JOYO Bantamp series of micro heads would also make great little budget DooM pedal platforms/recording preamps. Particularly the lower to mid gain offerings such as the "Bluejay" (Fender-ish), "Atomic" (Vox-ish), "Jackman" (MarshaJCM), or even the newer "Badass" bass amp (awesome name! Haha!). Two other "budget" contenders, but in the practice/recording combo amp category? The Orange 35RT (only combo in it's range with a good FX loop IMO) aaaand The Boss Katana. Seriously, check out the "Doom Tones" YT channel where the guy absolutely crushes it with simply a ProCo RAT & Katana 50 Mk1. Allrighty then. I think I should probably stop typing now. 😅

Im not sure how well these amps would work for Doom Metal, but there are some Micro amps out from Soldano, Bogner, Diezel, and Freidmen....all of them are a little under $200 bucks, or right at $200 bucks. All the amps that I mentioned are also very pedal friendly. There are actually quite a few really good reviews about all of them on KZread.

I just recently got this amp. I was running through an older Kustom Quad head ( solid state) that sat around for about 12 to 15 years before it was given to me. It had some issues and why I got the Micro Terror.... I run it through a 4x12 Marshall 1960 Vintage cabinet....yes, it will push a 4x12 cabinet and it is freaking loud!!!! I plug into an Eyemaster, then into a Boss MT-2 waza.... Let's just say, monstrous Buzzsaw guitar tones for days!!!!!!! My guitar is tuned to Drop C ( 6 string)....but I'm on the hunt for a decent 7 string or baritone 6 string!! Edit: Some of you Doom Metal guys might want to seriously consider checking out the Eyemaster!! Yes, it's supposed to be geared more towards the Swedish Buzzsaw guitar tone, but I still think some of you may dig the pedal!!...and for only $60 bucks!!! You really can't beat it!!

The move here is to play the Micro Terror through a proper cab. The downside to this amp is the class D power section, not because it's solid state but because class D doesn't always sound great when pushed. I liked cranking the gain, backing off the volume a tiny bit, and hitting the amp with a TC spark clean boost. Through a 4x12 it sounded really good and I even gigged it in a pinch. I did find the later Terror stAmp to be a massive improvement due to the solid state AB power amp, which sounds and feels much better than class D when loud. Also, it costs about the same as the Micro Terror. I'd love to see Jason try the Terror stAmp. I think it's great and would love to see what he can do with it.

A good alternative would be an Orange Terror Stamp. Even more portable and more options (FX loop, for example). Naturally, both "suffer" when combined with small speakers, especially in low tuning and "heavy" contexts, but the Stamp is loud and really has value for money when connected to a 2x12 or a 4x12.

I bought one of these for like 90 bucks on marketplace (just the head) and bought an old 80’s peavey 4x12 cab for 100 as my first head/cab combo… holy crap you shouldn’t be allowed to get a wall of sound like that for under 200 bucks 😂. I eventually got an old peavey head to go with the cab, but I still have this head too. Plug this thing into a 4x12 and you’ll keep up just fine with a band. You’ll have to really push it compared to a 100 watt head but the micro gets the job done

Nube question: from what i have heard, the speakers and pedals are what effects the sounds the most. The amp does not have as big an impact. Would be good to AB an expensive amp with smaller amps. The Rick Beato video with a cheap line 6 50 watt into a 4x12 is a good example what speakers do. Why are there less videos on the cab side, cab sims, 2x12s and 4x12s

So question that may not be answered since this video is older. I’m getting back into playing and have always owned solid state amps. I’m on the fence of continuing that route and getting a Super Crush 100 or spending a little more and jumping into tubes with an EHX Mig 50. In a house so being loud is not an issue, but wondering if you had to choose between the 2 what you would go with? Hear nothing but good things about the Orange but the Mig 50 is super tempting at the price point. Will be using the clean channel 80-90 percent of the time so not worried about high gain on the amp side

Maybe a Jensen Electric Lightning (dark and agressive), Jensen Falcon (dark and smooth), WGS Green Beret (Greenback style, all around good option as Orange play very nice with Greenbacks), WGS ET10 (dark with a bit of high end bite) or WGS Retro10 (V30 style speaker) would do the trick.
