    Personally I like the Rat more than the ds-1. The rat is a little more sloppy but it's a fuller sound, the ds-1 is cleaner but it's thinner. A tubescreamer boosting a turbo rat with a noise gate is insanely heavy

    It would be kick ass to have more interviews and rig checks with Doom artists. Its always cool to see new and custom gear, or hear their mindset on what tones they look for. I like your ideas of going to local builders, especially demoing "boutique" pedals. One video series I would like to see is pedal comparison. A fuzz video, phase and such. Describe the architecture, features, range, price, etc.

    I‘d probably add a wah pedal, after the fuzz. I love those screaming sounds you get if you run fuzz->wah->distorsion/gainy amp. I’d change the DS1 for a Rat-kinda thing, cause it’s easier to gain stack and you don’t get lost in the mix, that can easily happen with a DS1. I would actually put the phaser after the delay, because the movement is going on when the delay trails off, that seems more organic to me. I think there’s no easy way to sort your (gain) pedals. I have a overdrive, that i use pretty low gain, that i like to stack with distortions or fuzzes into the overdrive. I think to get the best results you really have to try everything in every order. Also the boarders between fuzz, overdrive and distortions can be very floating. Cheers from Germany!

    I use the carcosa to this day as first gainstage in my black metal rig. Amazingly versatile fuzz. I dial the Bias pretty low, so it's really just a bit fuzzy distortion. Use the SF300 as well, but in boost mode with treble up and bass slightly cut, to cut through when playing leads, and or a TS. It's a really filthy ugly as fuck but still pretty controlable in a 2 guitar band mix.

    Hi everybody. My name is Geoff and I am a pedal addict. I'm relatively new to the scene - I have 16 pedals on my board. I know that this isn't as many as a lot of other people have and that compared to many people I am a complete noob. However here I find myself at 00:57 watching a video on pedals for 'doom metal' and 'stoner rock'; these are ideas that exist beyond my comprehension as I live in the land of delay and reverb. I am not particularly into dirt pedals - I actually only own one dirt pedal, but I can't help consuming media focused on guitar pedals. The worst part is, I'm not sure I want help. Please pray for me brothers, and my wallet.

I appreciate the clarity on pedal arrangements as I plan to get a phase 90 and maybe an electro- harmonics Canyon delay. oh and my guitar is my custom (wired by me in a HSS coil setup her name is CatPiss) 96' Squire ProTone Strat with a blocked Floyd rose and my amp is the Orange Micro Dark terror into a Bugera 2x12... one day I'll upgrade the amp and can but it's awesome especially if I use the orange as a preamp on my buddies Vox AC30. albums I've been listening to have been Dopethrone by Electric Wizard and Murder of the Universe by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

    If I were to add a pedal it'd either be an overdrive like (budget friendly) Behringer TO800 Vintage Tube Overdrive or (less budget friendly) Horizon Devices Precision Drive... or an effect pedal like a wah (budget friendly) Behringer Hell Babe (you can upgrade a couple parts for it to be at a Cry Baby standard with out spending a lot) or (less budget friendly) DigiTech Whammy, or, or, or, or... Lol I could talk this for hours.. buy Behringer stuff if you're on a budget, their great! If you've got the cash to buy better do it, but don't forget to give the Behringer pedals a shot, I've seen quite a few of my friends over the years get hooked because they figured cheap plastic crap till they actually got to hear and try them. You can always buy metal stomp boxes for around $6 dollars on eBay, and throw the Behringer guts into it if it's make you more comfortable too.

  • @FuzzlordEffects

    @FuzzlordEffects

    I do but I play through clean amps. It’s just my deal. I always start with a very clean base tone so I can get those nice pretty tones; and add dirt on top of it. If folks like a more overdriven stock tone, I would start with the amp with that type of break up and overdrive and boost it from there with pedals. You can always add more dirt, harder to clean up an amp that’s too dirty if you want cleans. Cheers! Jason

    There is definitely a tone running phase into distortion, if you don't like the phaser in front then as a last resort you could put a little pedal in front of that. I used to hate fx loops then I accidentally tried a mic preamp before some pedals. 😸

  • @michaeldoerksen2841

    @michaeldoerksen2841

    I personally wouldn't put a Phaser into the FX loop, and also would put it in front of my dirt much like a wah. Phasers before dirt have a more subtle effect that moves your distorted tone in a much more pleasant way, IMO. But order of effects is almost always up to personal preference

    Great to see appreciation for cheaper & second hand gear. I've been fiddling around a few years now, with low-budget pedals, and gear, and I think I've found something now, budget-friendly, rig-wise., for a massive drone-doom kinda sound. A cheap 24-fret 4-string bass, tuned to C-standard, going through an ABY-split-pedal; First off, into a Rat, a Valeton Lazaro fuzz, Behringer bass EQ and cheap Caline CP-60 pre-amp pedal, into a 2nd hand Eden 200w solid state bassamp. Second part, through a very cheap polyphonic octaver, into a TC Electronic Eyemaster, a NUX phaser, Ibanez DE7-delay, and a Behringer reverb machine, into an Orange Crush LX20 guitar amp. It's cheap, small, good enough for rehearsal spaces, and, quite fun.
