It's amazing in fact it was my first Sci Fi Horror game I played when I was like 9 years old. I once did not get scared weeks later I was having some nightmares but I overcame my fears. I still have this game on The Original Xbox port, Steam, and BFG edition for both Steam and 360 edition. I love the Jumpscares, The Violence, and Most of All I love the Main theme Music. It makes me wanna rock my ass off and put a smile on my face and helps me face my fears. I'd be like. "ALRIGHT YOU SICK UGLY FUCKS TIME TO DIE," "BACK TO HELL BITCH!!!" Another thing many years ago I remember Imagining a Crossover between Marine The Player going toe to toe against Xenomorph's and The Predator's with all of his Weapons and Gear at his disposal. I even Imagine a Crossover between Doom meet Aliens. I even Imagine if The Marine did some teamwork with Ripley and Every Colonial Marine.

Doom 3 is my favourite Doom game it's exactly what a hell invasion would feel like the eerie atmosphere and sense of hopelessness and dread as you progress and you as a player also experience the sense of fear.

Simply the best version of Hell ever made in a Doom game. And the lore is also the best ever.

I love doom 3. Once you accept it is a different game style from previous and future doom games, you realize this game was ahead of its time in literally every way imaginable. The story was told in the same way as Dark Souls games, graphics were a decade ahead of its time, sound design was awesome and gameplay was terrifying and satisfying.

My dad got doom 1993 on release and he played it a lot, he actually liked Doom 3 but wanted to be more of a killing machine 😂 I guess he had to like it cuz he spent 3000 dollars on a top of the line PC so he could really enjoy doom 3 😂😂

Quite an exageration saying the graphics were a decade away, in fact it was just 1/2 years away of its time. Unreal Engine 3 came out in 2005/6 in Gears of War which completely eclipsed Doom 3 and Quake 4 graphics and continued to dominate until 2014 when Unreal Engine 4 was released. The obvious exception is Crysis of course.

No, Dead Space was actually inspired by System Shock 2, it was suposed to be System Shock 3 but Visceral was unable to get the IP Doom 3, as well as lots of horror sci-fi shooters had inspirations from System Schock 2.

I personally saw Doom 3 as a side story taking place around 120 years after the original trilogy (Doom 1 to 64) where you play as a normal Marine which explains the slower and more horror like gameplay. Doom 3 is only a couple years before Doom 2016 and they both share the same plasma weapon designs along with the Easter eggs on Doom 3 of the Doom Guy it’s very possible that in these 100 years the demons created tablets of the battles between Doom Guy and hell which were found in Doom 3.

But there's a big hole in your theory. The tablets from Doom 3 specifically described about the struggles of the tablet's creator (the Martians) against the force of hell, with stories and warning NOT to use their teleportation technology. It make zero sense for the demons to created tablets describing their war from the perspective of THEIR enemy.

These days, it's pretty obvious that the original Doom is just...eh. And the new Doom games follow in that lineage. That stale early 1990s lineage.

It's so weird cuz it was so revered when it was released.

I liked Doom 3, it was scary as fuck! It was the PDA's, hearing people sound scared before they are killed was the most brutal part.

I always liked Doom 3, it was like being a regular marine who becomes part of the Slayer story and they gave a lot of backstory and plot which was pretty cool. But, nothing beats glory killing every single thing in the universe!

Playing DOOM 3 for the first time since I was a kid and it's actually pretty good when it comes to immersion. It doesn't scream "arcade fps" like the new ones, but you still get this feeling of righteous conquering when you mow down demons in a partially lit hallway.

I can honestly see Doom 3 being apart of the main series it’s over 100 years after Doom 64 set in a world with more advanced technology (modern sci fi) compared to the retro look of the originals. Doom 2016 carries in this look with both games sharing the same plasma weapon designs. In my mind Doom 3 was like a side story where you played as a normal marine while the Doom Guy was locked away in hell couple years later he was found and woke up and that’s 2016.

Yep, I'm pretty convinced that the Martian ruins in Doom 3 is the Lost City of Hebeth from Eternal, the Martians themselves are actually the Argenta, and the ancient Martian hero is of course the Doomslayer during the Unholy Crusade.

Would be kinda neat if Doom 3's version of Hell was referenced too as a sort of really bizarre outland on the edge (the only place someone like betruger could probably get power)

Funny that there is so much teleports in Doom 1 and 2 yet Doom 3 is about a man who uses them after he discovered them laying around in mars and decoded the one ruin you find on them . And that huge unexplained coffin ... and again in Doom you climb out of a coffin also you figure out how far UAC personal will go to seize these artifacts

Dead Space was actually inspired by System Shock 2, indeed the game was suposed to be System Shock 3, but Visceral was unable to get the IP Doom 3 itself, as much of sci-fi horror shooters, had SS2 influences

I really loved the audio logs in this game, the ones in hell of the guy who lost his squad or the scientist describing how they discovered that teleporting lead to hell are so damn awesome and stand outs in world building for me

Given doom's hell is multiversal technically doom 3 takes place and is canon to the overarching doom timeline. Hell with some jiggery pokery could even explain this as the incident that samual hayden used to jumpstart thins on mars

In my personal head cannon I like to believe doom 3 is apart of the current doom lore. Doom 3 happens many years after doom 64 and the UAC continuing their research on mars as a whole. With the game taking place on mars mostly the UAC can keep the invasion a secret and hide anything that happened, even putting blame on the doom marine in doom 3 and using him as a scapegoats.

Carmack said doom 3 is what they wanted the original to be but due to hardware limitations it became the shoot em up we all know today

Doom 3 was a childhood favorite. Loved the intrO sequence as a kid. I felt like I was actually about to live on mars, made me jump many times. Still remember watching my dad install it onto the computer. Beat it several times now. Great story. Still looks decent. This and half life 2 were a game changer

Doom 3 is still one of the greatest games of all time. I have played this game at least 10 times complete on several difficulty levels and would do it again. The story would make a great movie if they just do the story and stop trying to change it to not upset certain groups (IE the Doom movie with The Rock). I really wish they would take this story and make it into a movie.

The Voices in 14:14 scared the shit out of me when I played D3 for the first time

Really wished they kept going with the real horror style gameplay that doom 3 had in the new games, it honestly made much more sense to me seeing as it's all demons and shit. Don't get me wrong I still like the "beast mode nothing can stop me" that the newer games and the OG's had but doom 3 just felt like that's how it was meant to be if that makes sense while still keeping this absolute weapon of a marine.

Honestly, I think that Doom 3 could be part of the Doom storyline. They say Hell invades worlds and the Khan says "Another world you destroyed." Maybe Doom 3's earth is just another one of these worlds?

I think it is connected at least loosely. When you meet Swann shortly before he dies he says the Demons were on Earth once, an event that happened in a previous game.

Doom 3 is great, and a good scare. I believe a tv broadcast in that game showed a deep space probe coming across the Strogg homeword.

I do like this game a lot, it’s kinda strange how some of the demons looks a lot like the newer demons

Doom 3 put in a story. But everyone wanted doom. That's what I like about doom, the new one, their is a story but you don't have to care about it. Smash the screen and keep shooting demons.

Out of all the doom games i think doom 3 did best for recreating/representing hell.Making it look very scary and pacing was good when demons come out of corners.

Doom 3 has a lot more advanced technology terms of artistic style the original Dooms had that retro Aliens look while Doom 3 went for a more modern sci fi look. Doom 3 does take place over 120 years after the events of Doom 64 making it a lot closer to Doom 2016 than any other Doom game both share the same plasma weapon design aswell which was an upgrade from the classic plasma weapon. Doom Eternal also confirmed that the classic look of Earth/UAC in the 2020s was a more retro sci fi look by having the classic marine armour be canon. If Doom 3 had this look and took place in the 2020s then it would definitely pass as a prequel.

I always thought that Doom 3 is an alternate dimension because think back to Doom Eternal when the Maykrs talk about having a machine that can see through multiple timelines. Would it be hard to imagine Doom 3 is one of them, especially when it played out way too similarly to Doom 1?

AcidGlow, I know this is asking a lot, but could you do a video about the Maykr hierarchy. There’s lots of info in-game and cut info in Emerson Tungs Doom Eternal concept art. Maykrs were gunna have deacons, priests, and devouts. They also created large cross-like structures that orbit Urdak- they were called Archangels and acted as a army to protect Maykrland. And the Maykrs were supposed to be completely synthetic- while the real Maykrs are in a Mummified state- there body’s scattered throughout Maykrland.

Really liked the “stumbled upon a portal to tell” story and the (LOOSELY) “grounded” and “scientific” approach to doom lore . This was the style at the time.

It would be cool if Hugo Martin would make doom 3 lore into doom eternal universe

Because he thinks he is a genius, he believes Doom Eternal and it's shitty lore are the best things ever made in video game's history and he also believes he is better than John Romero himself. How could I give any credit when it comes to creating a new Doom game when this franchise is simply put in the hands of a fucking narcissistic nerd, pretentious, Masters Of The Universe's dumb fan? Hugo Martin simply DESPISES all that was made before. He is a true idiot. He made a great work in 2016 DOOM, but for some unknown reason he started to change DOOM'S VERY ESSENCE, changing everything! Even Hell IS NOT HELL ANYMORE! Even the demons are not DEMONS anymore, but just corrupted human bodies after the soul extraction process! In the DOOM 3 lore the demons might remain a mistery but they are described as creatures NATIVE to Hell, not as mutated humans. They are there to torment human souls for all eternity, as we see in the christian's traditional depiction of Hell. And the most important thing: IN DOOM 3 HELL IS FUCKING HELL. It is not some kind of stupid factory powered by human souls in order to grant some stupid alien beings imortality nor the result of the corruption of some silly asshole god.

The intro part of DOOM 3 is pretty much based off of Half Life 1's intro. You're meant to take it all in before all Hell breaks loose. But yeah I understand that people wouldn't want a slow-paced opening in a DOOM game. (I really liked it though, tbh.) :D

I personally like to think that, as Doom is a multiversal franchise, Doom 3 takes place in separate universe to the classic Doom games and Doom 2016 and Eternal, but could be linked to our universe. After all, who is to say that the demons who attacked the ancient Martians, and the UAC base, are not the same demons that Doomguy fought after sealing himself in Hell at the end of Doom 64?

Haven't read too much into the lore, but a theory on the ancient martians and the hero: The ancient hero was the betrayer and the martians his people. "It is your people's time to give penance.. just as it was mine." His "death" was his disappearance.

I’m currently playing doom 3 and it’s definitely scary, but the way I feel it ties in is with the singular hell dimension, I don’t remember where I heard it exactly but all the different dimensions are connected in that manner. Not sure if I’m remembering it correctly

If everyone sacrificed themselves to power the soul cube, who was the doom slayer fighting for, and who buried him after his death, and how did they know what soul cube was, and how did they know to bury it with him?

Doom 3 was the vary first Doom game that i played, and that's to Doom 3 i am in love with the Doom franchise.

I grow up with the original Doom, but Doom 3...... that was another level. The first ones were very interesting action games, but 3 had plot and atmosphere, like it was scary when it came, you actually when through those labs wanting to know more, to understand, but with fear. You end the game and still has the sensation that many terrible things happened in Mars that you will never know, and you are actually lucky to be alive after everything.

I'll tell you the only way (or at least the "best" way) Doom 3 could be linked to the other Doom Titles. The key is the Quake Series and Slip Gates into different dimensions. To be clear, thus far, there is no statement, or piece of lore that would directly contradict the notion that the Multiverse of Quake is in fact, the same Multiverse as Doom 1, 2, 64, 2016, Eternal, and of course Doom 3. But of course id hasn't confirmed the existence of a multiverse either so, eh... So really, Doom 3 is just an alternate universe where an invasion happened, but Doomslayer never existed.

Doom 3 was new. Scary, dark, and satanic! It was beautiful ❤

Doom 3 is the best I think. The open-arena Quake style of the newer Doom games doesn't appeal to me. I prefer the corridors "gotcha" moments of Doom 3.

we finally get to know the origin of that soul cube and purpose because it seems to be a way of holding demons back from invading people and worlds .

Given what has been mentioned by Marty and what we see in 2016 and Eternal, it’s very possible that every Doom game, even Doom 3 and the movie with Karl Urban does occur within the setting. It’s mentioned that there are multiple divergent realities which encompass Doom stories that are joined together by 2 points: Doomguy and Hell. There is only one hell, that is shared between all realities and one DoomSlayer - but there are many Doomguys. Like the OG from the original games, they all have their own lives and are born and live like any human. It is just that inside of them is the innate potential to become the Slayer if connected with the power of the divinity machine. Even though they are just human, they have skills and strengths that a normal human wouldn’t, such as Doom 3’s marines capability to enter hell or use the Soul cube. It’s likewise why Karl Urban’s character in the movie gained super human abilities while everyone else mutated into demons when exposed to hell energy - he essentially tapped into the power of the Slayer. Given that Doom Eternal establishes that time flows differently between realities, such as Doom Slayer being around for entire eons in the reality of 2016 and Eternal, including on and around earth before humans even existed, while the world he came from is essentially the same time period as he wakes up into, it’s very possible that the ancient hero of Doom 3 myth was the Doomslayer, and the Martians were a Sentinel off-shoot society. (This is true at least to Doom Eternal, since it mentions an old sentinel city being at Mara core with access to the Sentinel homeworld.) Which makes Doom 3’s marine the Doomguy of his universe, even if he doesn’t become DoomSlayer. It also means that it is possible, disregarding some date fuckery that 2016 and Eternal takes place in the same specific reality as Doom 3, just in the future after Mars City was rebuilt. Otherwise, it takes place in a mirror reality close enough that it’s more similar than different.

So how did the Martian get buried in burial chamber if everyone was sacrificed?

Not everyone died. Someone them survived. And some of the survivors migrated to Earth.

I wonder if we'll see this Marine in a future, since IIRC he stayed in hell after beating Betruger. Maybe he did encounter the same warrior race that trained Doom Slayer too?

Ancient Martian People = Night Sentinels?

I would like to see a Doom 3 kinda game in the future, slow-paced and methodical and with squad-based gameplay, it should be like a spin off where you don't play as doomguy but as another character.

I'm just finally getting round to it after grabbing myself the Slayers Collection for my PS4 , and all I can ask is...am I alone here in calling this the OG 'Dead Space'? 🤔😆

Doom 3 is a great game and took the liberty to have a more realistic approach. It is the first Doom game to mention the Devil as we know it(the intro where you meet Jonathan Ishii is pretty self explanatory) and mentions even the ancient aramaic language, which is said to be the one spoken by the times Jesus descended into Hell, an event Christianity calls it the Harrowing of Hell(I'm not a christian fanatic, I just spotted this things over the game).

"Hell is no place for a mere mortal" true, it doesn't even have a flashlight! I found 2 BFGs in there, but no flashlight!

I have a theory that the ancient martians may possibly have been the civilization that the Doom Slayer became part of and is shown in Doom Eternal.

I think the "ancient people" or "martians" of mars were the people of sentinel prime in doom 2016 lore. And then after a few hundred years in that dimension humans name it Mars and we get Doom 3 "without" doom 1&2

My head cannon was that the Doom Slayer was the Martian peoples heroic savior. It's why he was in the sarcophogus.

I hope they make the doom marine become another doom slayer or dark lord in another dimension and eventually the doom slayer in Doom Eternal can fight with or against him..

Doom 3 underappreciated yeah sure it wasn't like the action packed game we know and love about them but it's still fascinating game is on right

Note: Doom 3 BFG has full VR mod/mode. Carmack was showcasing it off in 2012 before release but was never released (but the code is still there). There is a mod that reenables it and with more QOL improvements. This makes it WAY better than Doom VFR.

i think that if some of the human zombies doctor`s engineers,etc had female body too, the cherub could be explaned it orignal was babie that was transformed. :) Great video and i Love the Doom3,Doom3ROE and BFG of Doom3 :D also i like that Doom 3 is on Mars instead of the Mars moons since doom1&2 didnt happen in doom3 game, so that explanes that mars was first place then later they had outpost on Phobos and deimos like the one in Doom1&2 :D
