Hired a van and drove twelve friends up the night before .Definitely a more layed back vibe. Thunder were on point that day.Watched all of Poison with the future wife on my shoulders. What with the weather being kind and the quality of the bands it made for a great day.Cheers guys.

First observations of the day. After the disaster of 88 this year was a lot more fun and chilled out. The first good weather in years probably helped. For me Thunder and Aerosmith were the best bands of the day, I got right down the front for both those performances and it was a lot more enjoyable than previous years. Big Whitesnake can and they sounded great but it was a performance that could've been better. Still a marvellous day and I was back home in Essex by 3am, result!

Great trip down memory lane. Was there mainly for Poison, Aerosmith and Quireboys. Was heavily into the Hair metal/Sleaze scene, complete with Bleached blonde hair and Bandana. Was actually interviewed for the Headbangers Ball special but a bit drunk to be coherent. Night before was spent at Rock City which was tradition then drove in a van straight to the campsite, 6 of us in a transit. Great day and gig, enjoyed it. Met and saw Poison at Rock City few days before when they played a warm up show.

Duuuuudddddeeee! What a day that was… one or two were embibed alright. Of course I was sober as a judge. Haven’t listened to it all yet chap. Can’t wait to over the weekend!

Interesting how your travel stories sync with mine. This was my fourth MOR but the first where I drove up. I didn't have to get a coach. In fact, on the day of my driving test my ticket dropped on the mat so that afternoon I just had to go out and pass my test...and I did!

I was there. Big aerosmith fan but Thunder was the best

The Only Monsters of Rock I attended. Did a coach trip from Medway in Kent. Set off about 06:30 I think. Enjoyed the whole day. Like you guys thought Whitesnake were nothing to write home about, even with Steve Via. I remember David Coverdale in between each song asking the punters, what is the word we are not allowed to say. Going out live on BBC Radio 1 I guess he had been told not to say f**k, so got the crowd to shout it out as often as he could. Thought Aerosmith were awesome and Thunder to. Poison were big in my group of friends I travelled with. Enjoyed them but did not think they were better than Thunder. On the way home the coach driver put on the Bon Jovi concert from Moscow on the TV. back in VHS days.

A FINE day all round especially seeing Poison for me plus Thunder and Vaisnake was OK and did get to hear For The Love Of God. Sober, no....😂

i saw what you did there !!

Went this year and 87 & 88. Far more relaxed this year and the weather certainly helped. Loved Thunder and bought their shirt. I only really was looking forward to Whitesnake but I didn’t think they were that good, I love Steve Vai but he’s not suited to Whitesnake.

I went for Aerosmith. I had been a fan since 1980, after hearing them on the K-Tel album 'Axe Attack' and followed them around the country in 1989. Poison I loathed, Quireboys were ok, Whitesnake were awful, and Thunder blew everyone offstage. As a side note, Terraplane who mentioned in the discussion, were crap.
