They always deliver! Never seen them disappoint - Knebworth, Donington, Wembley Arena even (arguably) gave Priest a run for the money at Hammersmith!

I was there! I remember the flare being shot at the stage from our right aimed right at Motorhead and yeah Lemmy went nuts and threatened to knock his head off! Silenced the crowd! Def Lep 's return, everyone was waiting for especially with Rick Allen 's accident and a lot of people around us were crying when Joe Elliot introduced him! Scorpions won the day for me! They were amazing!. This was my 3rd Donington!. Did 83, 84, 86 and 87! Great times!

Thanks for posting some great memories gents. I didnt go to the festival but saw Warlock supporting WASP in October 86 at Newcastle City Hall. The Ozzy set was broadcast on the Friday rock show as I remember taping it.

It wasn't all Bad News but obviously the Leps a highlight for me and Ozzy headlining and an absolute monster hearing Killer Of Giants with the Jake solo.. Sublime. Scorpions never disappoint.

The absolute biggest and most enduring story of that day, for me (though I wasn't there), has to be Rick Allen's return after his near fatal car wreck, losing his arm, his recovery and teaching himself to play drums on the foot kit.

Outstanding day, Scorpions were brilliant, Leppard triumphant, Oz was Oz but Motorhead crushed it. Absolutely brutal.

I was too young to go this on my own but only lived a few miles away so my mum suggested she drive and we’d listen to Ozzy from the car park as we had done Marillion the year before. As you say, no real security so you could do that kind of thing. I did go and see Ozzy on tour the same year.

I was there. Travelled on a bus from Somerset with a bunch of other metallers, as the ticket also included the bus hire. I'd already been in '85 so knew what to expect, but the crowd seemed a bit less mad. TBH I forgot that Scorpions and Def Leppard played there that year. I do remember Bad News (and had the t-shirt for years til it fell apart) and someone in the crowd launching a firework/flare at Lemmy when Motorhead were on, and Lemmy going ballistic. Also remember talking to people from various bands who were at the edge of the crowd - Tarazara and some others. The Bad News bit of it can be seen here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYF9urlvfpPJZ8Y.htmlsi=ioUaG8fiDSOunibj - tbh they were better than Warlock.

Spot on with the bark at the moon solo. Has Ozzy ever had a truly great album though? I mean with a full great track list and good production? Lots of great singles but the albums are hampered by filler or crap production. My personal fave is the Randy Tribute album.

You make a good point - there's some great songs and production on No More Tears but not all songs are great - interesting theme to consider for other bands too!! Thanks for your support!

@@talesfromthepowerage great idea and how many bands have 3 or 4 truly brilliant albums and then a bunch of filler? Def Leppard, Motley Crüe for example…
