A speedrun is a play-through (or a recording thereof) of a video game performed with the intention of completing it as fast as possible. Speedruns may cover a whole game or a selected part, such as a single level. While all speedruns aim for quick completion, some speedruns are characterized by additional rules that players promise to obey, such as collecting all key items. Players attempt speedruns mainly to challenge themselves and to entertain and compete with others

Hey everyone make sure you check out the sponsor, they were a huge help in making this video as well as providing the money to be donated so I want to promote them as much as possible store.steampowered.com/app/384250/Super_Rude_Bear_Resurrection/ I hope everyone enjoyed this video, this is by far the longest I've ever spent on a single video (80 hours). But it was a lot of fun to make. Huge shoutouts to Cheese as well, what a legend twitch.tv/cheese That's pretty much all I have to say, have a beautiful life :)

Here's some stats for y'all (at the time of writing): Cheese's 1h 09m 18s lands him on a *188th* place on the speedrun leader boards. There are 1600 listed runners. There are 772 runners sub 1h 20m 00s There are 52 runners on in the 1h 09m XXs gap. There are 59 runners sub 1h 05m 00s. There are only 8 runners sub 1h. In short 188th is pretty high ranked considering the popularity and where he is situated. And this were done in a week, I don't even dare to think how far Cheese could go if he decided to continue.

I mean odyssey does have different mechanics but the same basic moveset from mario 64 have been in every 3d mario game so he did have an advantage from being one of the best mario 64 runners
Like Cheese was saying, if a lot of speedruns had super in-depth but easy to follow and understand tutorials then it'd help the community grow and get people who find it too daunting what they need to actually start.
"Areas to improve: None, the movement is too optimized at this point." LMAO that got me
EZScape, I would recommend keeping it to individual tricks for casual streamers. As cool as it might be to try and get them into speedrunning by challenging them to do a full run, I don't think the time investment is something a casual streamer is really prepared for. Getting Runners to try new games is an interesting concept though. Keep up the good work!

@@EZScape Really glad to hear this. Feno and I got a streamer to learn how to airwalk in Tomb Raider Anniversary in like ten minutes probably years ago now and that was super fun, and seeing you do what we essentially did but with a bit better of an incentive has been really cool. A few tricks maybe for casual streams, and if they're casual speedrunners maybe runs of something that's up to/around an hour long of a run.

I think it could be fine if it's an easy to pick up, short run. Like how Strider was taught during a GDQ. The runner learned and completed a run in less than an hour. It might take a little longer to teach a casual player to do it, but I can't see it being by much.
thanks for getting cheese into odyssey, he has said many great things about the community/game that has lead to more members joining.

LOL at the dude that thought that donating to someone was equivalent to stealing their ideas... Like, anyone can donate money to anyone else, no one "owns" that ability. And even then, what's the harm in giving someone else money in cases like this? It's a fun challenge that also supports streamers.

1:25 true just look at how many people have made A History Of Speedrunning videos of their preferred speed game since Summoning Salt started his series. But instead of saying they stole from him SS has given them shout outs.
I can only imagine how stressful it was to those two streamers you challenged. I mean... they most likely never speedran any game, and here's some dude offering them $1000 to speedrun a game in a week. I bet that the sheer presence of coaches added to the stress. And after they just broke down from continuous attempts they just couldn't show their face from the embarrassment of their failure. I feel bad for them and I couldn't get those thoughts off while watching this video. I hope they will return.

i would've mentioned that in cheese's 1:09:18, he beat his SoB from before the run started (which was 1:09:19) which shows how good that run was for him. such an occasion is very rare (outside of like, the first couple of runs). sick looking back on this though after watching a lot of it live.
