I like the approach of the video that often saving money is more expensive. Given that I'm not a world class shooter, fundamentally I'm a pretty good shooter as I've shot a lot since taking hunters' safety as part of a merit badge in 1982 in 6th grade, but there is a noticeable diminishing returns going from good, solid, quality, reliable to high end for me personally. Don't get me wrong, there are times where something is so cool that it's kind of fun just to have it but I've never been happy when I get really cheap on something and end up getting what I should have bought in the first place. Geisselle is a very good example of that.

You said "Spend a little more" as if spending more money is equal to higher quality. In some cases that is correct, but that's definitely not the rule. A $150 Roscoe barrel will shoot 2-3 MOA (depending on ammo) for a much higher round count than a $500-$900 Proof barrel will.

By magpul’s own verbage….the gen 3 pmag is a more robust (thicker) construction. My lil bit of advice is this…if your weapon only runs on 1 type of magazine….its not the mags….its the weapon. Check your mag catch setup and make sure it’s up to spec. I only run usgi or pmag. But they both snap in tightly. And work flawlessly…and always fill your mags. If it can’t take all 30…or won’t stay with bolt forward fully loaded, you need to check your weapon tolerance.

When gun culture convinces you that only premium level stuff is able to handle what you put it through, then you will drink the Koolade and buy once cry once..... However once you see from 1st hand experience that $100 handguards take all the same abuse as the $400 handguards, you'll reconsider. Once you see that a half decent forged receiver set will do nearly everything that extremely overpriced billet receiver sets do without adding extra weight, you'll reconsider. Once you realize a half decent mil-spec trigger after it's broken in will shoot every bit as fast and accurate, you'll reconsider. Once you realize that a $100 barrel shoots almost as accurate as barrels 5X more with the cheap ammo you shoot with, you'll reconsider..... I can go on and on and on. The point is, "Buy once cry once" is a saying and a mentality pushed by easily manipulated consumers that think they will suck less at shooting if they buy the most expensive parts. These people also see the "Buy once cry once" mentality as a way to elevate their status with the gun gear nerds online. Most of these misinformed and poorly trained clout chasers congregate in the Mid Tier Snobs Facebook group.

You can build a nice AR by purchasing one part at a time until it's done. I could've built a really nice AR in the beginning, but I thought I couldn't afford it, but when it came down to it, I just had to spread the cost out over time by getting one part a a time until it was done.

My first at was a PSA, it still shoots good. I changed out the cheap stock with a bcm one. It made it more and comfortable and it still shoots like a champ, but I definitely felt the difference between the PSA and my second rifle which was a IWI Zion 15. Now the mags and holsters I 100% agree with. If you can’t hold your handgun upside down without it falling out of the holster, then get one that will. That’s also a reason not to cheap completely out on handguns because you run the risk of having a hard time finding a holster, or ending up short in other areas. My first edc was a Taurus G2C that I upgraded to a GX4XL. It was a much better gun but I struggle shooting compacts because of my larger hands. I gave the GX4XL to my wife. I bought a full size gun to carry around which was the Tisas TX9 (not sure that’s the name) gen 3. I actually love that gun, the trigger is amazing for the price point. It just ended up being too big. Got the stoeger 9mm subcompact. Wasn’t a bad gun, but it was cheap and to cheap out they cut a corner, it only came with one mag. Eventually I ended up with my current edc Shadow systems CR920. Should’ve saved myself the trip around the world and just got it from the start 😊

My PSA trigger hasn't broke, either, so I haven't replaced it, but if it does, that gun will get a Geissele.

Best compromise for inexpensive but buy once cry once. Buy a bcm blem upper. Then you can get a psa complete lower with whatever funriture you want on it already. If i were to start all over again I would: get a 16" bcm blem upper from bcm. Free bcg with it plus heat fit barrel and rail and cl chf barrel. (About $650 w/shipping) Buy a raptor ambi charging handle (or get one of bcm's when buying the upper $50-90) just more sturdy and quality than milspec). Get a psa lower with b5 furniture (I like their furniture best but have other companies i like also ($150 + transfer fee and you can get free shipping many times). Romeo 5 red dot so i can aim it ($120 many times on sale). Ferro concepts sling ($65 + $30 for qd attachments). Magpul pmags usually you can find bulked with some ammo. About 1k for all that. Then train and save for a sig magnifier to go with the dot or for an acog, or lpvo (primary arms plx-c) or quality scope/mount with a milrad reticle (primary arms glx 2.5-10x). After that a light. Streamlight hlx pro. The others on the market are over priced or under perform if cheaper. Then get the miscellaneous stuff as you feel something isn't working for you. 100 concepts light covers, ambi safety if you feel the milspec isn't working for you (but buy a quality one radian, solgw, etc.), h2 buffer or springco spring if you feel like you'd like it to shoot smoother. But these are things that, if training/practicing you will actually notice versus if barely shooting. But optics are the real buy once cry once. All in all, you'd have a rifle and skills to use it, that would last you a lifetime if you just do the maintenance for the gas rings and misc parts that wear and periodic cleaning.

One thing nobody seems to mention when they suggest an ambi safety selector is that its really handy to have one IN COMBINATION with it being a short throw ambi selector. I listened to everybody and got an ambi selector, but it wasnt a 45deg 60 deg one. Its not that comfortable and easy to use the ambi side when your selector is stiff and pointing straight up at 90deg. Probably isnt mentioned much because most ambi selectors come with short throw options. Buy once and get the radian one.
