Don't Wait to Retire to Rest with Stephanie Perry-Part 1 | Black Women Over 60

Season 6, Episode 5: Don't Wait to Retire to Rest with Stephanie Perry-Part 1 Full Episode
“Waiting until retirement age to start living is a scam!” Well, that is guest Stephanie Perry’s stance on why she has made it her goal to get Black women to “take career breaks, bop around the world, or move abroad all while embracing ease.”
The Besties have mentioned her several times as a model of free-living, unapologetically choosing ease, and a window into the world of what she refers to as the “adult gap year."
Stephanie’s transformation started when she gave herself free time, through travel, to find the part of herself that she might not have allowed to surface otherwise. Your value, she says, is in who you are, not in what you do. Especially for Black women who carry the weight of the stress of so many societal “isms.”
The Besties couldn’t get enough of Stephanie Perry, creator of the popular KZread channel ‪@StephaniePerry‬ , a full time house-sitter, creator of House Sitter School, co-creator with Roshida Dowe of ExodUS Summit and just all around cool sister-friend. So make sure you tune in next week for Part 2 of one of their most riveting conversations thus far. In the meantime, catch this video of hers: For Black women who think they’ll have to work til they die 🙅🏾‍♀️

Welcome to Black Boomer Besties From Brooklyn!
This is what the world needs now: Two free-thinking “seasoned” black women speaking their truth and inspiring others to do the same.
Shaped by 45 years of friendship that began at the prestigious Brooklyn Technical High School through the Ivy League, medical school, marriages, divorces, triumphs, parenting queer children, life-threatening illness, and many many amazing adventures.
Each week, besties Leslie Osei-Tutu and Angella Fraser will push against boundaries in love, culture, careers, faith, politics, and outdated assumptions about women of a certain age. Remember, you’re never too old to change your mind…or your hair!

    ❤ I’m currently in Iraq, I’m a Federal Government Employee for over 35 years (to include 4 years of Army Service). Now, I’m on a 10 month deployment, over 5 months into it) I’ve been in the war zones 14 times. As of yesterday, I have started what I call “Operation Time to Return HOME”. My health, mental and spirit is breaking day to day. God has shown me that it’s time to leave this toxic job and environment. I can’t see myself completing the 10 months, I am ready to go home to begin LIFE again with family, friends, travel, rest, exercise, fast, all that I dream of when feeling like I’m imprisoned in the deployment position. I’m 55.5 years old and have 60 years in my current position plan to retire. But, I may do it at 58…. We shall see 🙌🏽🙏🏽 Thank you beautiful ladies for your inspiration ❤❤❤

    KZread suggested this video to me, and it was a good choice because I'm also a Black woman from Brooklyn (originally), I love to travel, and I'm an independent thinker. I help seniors navigate the health insurance maze (for a living), so I know all about the high cost of healthcare in this country. I loved every minute of this interview! And when you mentioned Dr. Uche Blackstock, I told my husband, "Oh my gosh! I used to babysit Uche and her sister Oni when they were 6 years old! :D. What a small world.

    Hey colleague! I'm an anesthesiologist too! Have you checked out the recent video we posted about anesthesia fears? Here is the post link- kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z5qWzryqe6zKcqg.html. I think locums is a great option for us as we can easily dip in and out of work between longer gigs. I wasn't aware of the 3 month restriction though- maybe it would help to be out 2.8 months at a time then (LOL). I'm not familiar with FIRE. What is that?

  • @jaxonwilson4722

    @jaxonwilson4722

    4 ай бұрын

    2.8mos😆. I think FIRE was started by hospitalists decades ago to obtain Financial Independence Retirement Early (F.I.R.E.), it’s now in many segments of society. The younger generations have perfected it. They will save up to 70% of their income for 10+ years as early as possible and by any means necessary. They place their savings into any vehicle that has a compounding interest component. If they start at 30 they are done by 40 etc. I have been following it for a bit (not at 70%) but the best explanation I’ve ever seen was from Our Rich Journey. That family has been insanely successful with it. Really really enjoyed this podcast:-) thank you all for doing it.

In many ways they’re selling a dream without providing all the details. (This is an FYI for those that don’t know.) You need to plan financially first. Anything is possible with a plan. It may take a year or several to get there.
