Don't Try To Make A Reversible Coquelicot Skirt While Affected By Plague 😅
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Less-than-ideal circumstances aside, coquelicot skirts and the whole concept are really cool! I can easily see how this would work for comfy trousers or secret pants as well and it could be a lot of fun.
I hope you enjoy!

I'm glad you only briefely died of consumption, and that it was not a long-term death. Once again a very lovely and inspiring video! And yes for dismantling toxic perfectionism!

Thank you! I so wish people would just allow themselves to enjoy the process of making things. 😊
Just a heads up: The Coquelicot Skirt is a specific sewing pattern by Wildflower Design Patterns. Whereas the 18th century split sides skirts with front and back ties don't really have a name other than, well, petticoat. But many people call them "split sides skirt."

All hail the mighty Void!
A camera cannot focus on a fluffy black void without eyes to pierce the soul and compel you for cuddles. Also laughed at the "...Rude." and the causal "dieing of consumption" inserts. Glad you made it (the skirt and surviving the plague). i think I'll try making a coquetlicot sometime.

Aw, this made my day. What a sweetheart!
Glad to have you back amongst the living. I actually really like the skirt you made. It’s adjustable, it has pockets and it’s a lovely shade of green! Also I personally cherish imperfections in handmade articles. And the way I see it is if someone else notices it and brings it to your attention, as if you weren’t already aware, then they’re too critical, standing much too close and need to back off.

I’m not fond of circle skirts on myself either. You’re correct though, sometimes it’s the process and what we learn from it that is the lesson. LOL!! Your cat is beautiful!

Your furry fabric weights are adorable! I have a pair of my own. One is black like yours and my primary quality control manager is a red-headed Manx-mix.
I love the little swirly waistband! If you were to do a fun auction or giveaway, it would be like the best prize ever! Perfect for dancing. Also I miss my lovely old working Singer.
"Toxic perfectionism is such a plague in our society". So true. And being 50 years into living in a world that says things must be a certain way, I'm trying to brake out of that mentality. It kept me in fear of learning how to sew for so long. I'm finally choosing to happily make mistakes and learn how to make fabric look like something other than, well a strip of fabric. And how to play in learning. Experiment. Use not so traditional fabrics (the younger people have been an amazing inspiration for me with repurposing bedsheets, curtains, tablecloths and even old clothes to make new clothes and other items). And discover what I can really do if I try. Love your videos. Your calm and meditative way of talking through your process is very relaxing. Love the manager as well. ❤

It is! I can’t wait to apply it to other projects too.
I always think a stretchy waistband is going to be comfortable. I guess if I want that, I might as well add elastic and also retain the original width of the waistband. I didn't predict it getting more narrow as it stretches. Really thanks for showing the whole thing because that helps me plan my next skirt project I am working on at the moment.
Good to hear You're recovering, covid can be a bitch. That lovely skirt fabric would probably look good with a new black waist band cut on a straight grain? If You ever want to reuse or remake this skirt? Otherwise I love all circle skirts for their epic swoosh and swirliness 🤩 The fact that Your black cat is named Soot brings me no end of delight every time I watch Your videos :)

Sorry you got Covid - it's the pits. And bravo for highlighting a project that didn’t go as you wanted - we all need to be reminded that it is ok to … well, I hesitate to say “fail,” as you ended up with quite a fetching skirt. But, how about “succeed incompletely” as an alternative? And now that you know that you don’t care for circle skirts, perhaps you have a future gift for a very dear friend who does like them.

That thought has struck me as a very potential use of this skirt. Although I would wish to resolve the waistband issues before gifting it to a precious friend. ❤️
I have just found your videos. The one about viscose was first. I thought it was bad, but not THAT bad. Thank you for your research! Not to mention the diary. Have you ever noticed in period movies that when someone coughs it always ends badly. I am happy that this was not the case for you. I hope you remained fully recovered.
I recently had a 2nd bought of "The Plague", bu this time, I didn't even know I had it until I tested positive. The first time, it threw me for a loop for a whole wretched week. And, a week of recovery! I admire your willingness to admit, and show, your mistakes.

I feel you, the plague hit me in the middle of a big weaving project >_> I hope you can recover well, short AND long term. The skirt is very cute! It's a shame about that waistband, brain fog truly is a harsh mistress, but it's so swirly. Just out of curiosity, what is it about circle skirts you don't like? The amount of widening?

I am honestly not sure myself. Knowing me though, it might just be that it is a new silhouette and I am not used to it. Give it a handful of tries and my brain might come around, it is a fickle thing. 🤔

It's a very clever design. I hope you got some decent wear out of it.
I'm glad you seem to be feeling better! I love love love making things reversible because it feels like a little extra work gives me two garments! Making a garment with reversible pockets is such a rewarding bit of engineering. I made a reversible wrapping gown (bag-lined following the Burnley and Trowbridge sew along) with pockets (because I like to torment myself and I demand pockets) and that was such a long "oh gods, trust the process" ...process. I realized late that I should have added them in earlier, so it made for a very challenging the-side-seam-is-pulled-out-through-the-sleeve-so-I-can-build-the-pockets time. I'm not sure I could repeat it if I tried. The fabric of this skirt looks lovely and I really like the shape, though I can see how it wouldn't really fit in with the rest of the clothes we've seen you make/wear. Do you know what you're going to do with it if you do decide you're not going to wear it?
@KristineVike

Oh, that sounds like such a journey! But yes, I would give it to a friend who does wear knee-length circle skirts if I really do decide it’s not for me. But I would fix the waistband issue first.
The skirt is cute! Pity about the waistband XD maybe it can be salvaged if you unpick it and add some fusible interfacing? But if you don’t like circle skirts for yourself that might not be worth the effort

I was thinking about re-cutting and piecing a new waistband from the scraps. I had intended to use the offcut for something else, but I would rather have one good piece than two “meh” ones. Even if I end up giving it away. :)

@@KristineVike haha that might be a good option to have a nice stable waistband. I'm sure that if you give it away someone will be very happy with it!
I've been working on my first Coquelicot skirt and having changed the finishings to include french seams and enclosing everything....I cannot even imagine trying to make this reversable. This skirt (view b on the pattern) has been taking me way longer than it should. I am absolutely in love with this skirt concept, but I am doing my next one much differently. I feel like this could be so much easier with a panel skirt and a different waist band/yoke combo. I have so many thoughts.
