Trying to Hand Stitch an Apron!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I know spring cleaning may be a bit of a trope, but by golly, it does feel so good to wipe the dust from the nooks and crannies of a home that feels like it has been hibernating over the winter. What better way to honour that spirit than with a fresh, new linen apron?

My supurrvisor would approve if I let her see this.
Yes. Scissor panic is a thing. It isn't the sewing machine that is scary, it's the scissors. I LOFF the idea of a drawstring in the hem!

Agreed. The sewing machine work I can unpick. But the scissor’s work is forever. 😬

@@KristineVike Piecing may be period. But piecing back the piece you just cut off is just 🤬💩💀
I am here for the Void-Madam. But the apron is lovely too! :D A simple apron was one of the first things I made after I started making myself nice things - can't cook directly in the pretties!

It is such a useful thing!
Many years ago I was making a wedding dress for a friend. I was having problems putting in the zipper. (I've always hated putting zippers in on the sewing machine.) So I decided to put it in by hand. I used a stitch I will call a backhand stitch. I would start the needle pointing to the top of the dress. Then I would put the needle down below the first hole. It sort of made a kinda locking stitch. It wasn't very neat but it kept the zipper in. I probably should have used a tiny hemming stitch. But I had fun doing it.

So cool! Love the drawstring at the hem. And Soot may be the least helpful apprentice ever but she makes for a magnificent baby dragon to employ in safekeeping your projects 🐈⬛

I love this so much. And kitty is the best! Thank you for posting
So thrilled to have found you channel! My little dog loves to lay on my Lap while I sew, especially in my hanmock recently (because sewing outside is so soothing!). It was nice to see you have a void assistant as I do ❤
I'm watching this while finishing a walking skirt based on yours from a while ago. Love your new apron and especially love how it transformed at the end! Absolutely brilliant! Give Soot 🐈⬛ a pet from me please 💜

Oooh, I hope your skirt turns out marvellously and gives you many happy years of service. 🐈⬛❤️
Ohh the anxiety of cutting fabric, even when there's no lace involved 😅 Once again your work is absolutely stunning, I'm especially a fan of the insertion lace. Maybe I'll dare to cross that bridge myself at some point. I'm off to visit my parents soon and there will be a new baby assistant to meet there, I only hope that we'll have the luck of having a fantastic assistant such as Madam Soot 🥰 Maybe some lessons on how to assist most effectively will be in order before I take my knitting projects out.

Oooh, best of luck meeting the baby assistant! I am sure they will be a marvellous, if chaotic, help.
I always do the thread pull for my linen work.. it snaps constantly but sometimes I get a little over a foot (30.5 cm) worth of clean pull. The front view of the apron looks like a matching skirt or a dress it matches your top so well in that light. Cleaning feels unending, especially with forever shedding pets.

Yeah, the snappage is real, but also so satisfying to get a good, long thread. 😅
I... might have to make myself a fruit picking apron. I usually carry a basket around when I go pick beans and cut chard, but an apron would be so much more convenient, and I wouldn't have to risk kicking it over

Linen is so very squiggly and slipping around on the worktable. 😐
You always make the most whimsical and magnificent creations. You also use such beautiful fabric, and yarn, and lace. Seriously, that linen thread is gorgeous! (Alas, the only one I've had the displeasure of finding is a tiny overpriced 50 meter spool with the consistency of dental floss.)
@KristineVike
Жыл бұрын
Of, that is frustrating. The linen thread I am using is actually meant for weaving (which is why it is on a ridiculously large spool 😅) and has lumps that are less than ideal for sewing. But luckily the beeswax really helps!
@KristineVike I am making my own bunad, all hand sewn and was stuck on making the forkle and without this video i would have been completely lost. thank you!

Thank you! If you do get inspired to try, these are pretty easy (plus household items made for utility don’t need to be “perfect” to do their job, and are a pretty low stakes starting point imo 😊).

@@KristineVike I want to, but I'm also conflicted about it. One side goes: ok, so we want something that drapes nicely. Some ruching along the hem. Definitely a pocket, or maybe rather two for balance. Some lace. It'll be really aesthetically pleasing and I'm going to love using it. Let's draw up a pattern. The other side goes: I have that old bedsheet. If I cut a rectangle out of that and add shoelaces for ties, we're good. AuDHD struggles. 🤦🏼♀️
It's absolutely beautiful!
Sorry I couldn’t stand trying to sew knit weave or any fibre crafts with the cat, ours just sheds far too much to have anything clean when finished so she is out of the room and knows better than to sit on my quilts or anything love your beautiful apron
