This is the best tutorial I’ve ever seen on this technique. I especially love seeing a leftie sewing. We’re seriously underrepresented.

My husband, sister and father agree about left handed people being misrepresented. My mom and I are both ambidextrous so some things work best right handed and some things work better left handed. Go figure!

I've been watching videos on rolled hems for 2 days, but felt something was missing. I had an image in my head from years ago of the needle going into the top crease and somehow, it rolled. All the other videos show them rolling it twice by hand. I'm so glad I kept looking and found this one! I'm assuming you are sewing with one strand of thread?

Yes it’s one strand of thread. I like to wax the thread with bees wax to give the thread strength. Xx

Do you do back stitches every now and then so that the whole hem doesn't unravel if the thread breaks

I liked your technique, very nice. Not many appreciate what a hand sewn rolled hem can do for a garment. Thanks for sharing! I have. Been sewing for a long time now and use this technique myself. I use a shorter needle for hand sewing, when I can. It encourages smaller movements, shorter stitches and less stress on the wrist. I also avoid starting a knot on just one layer of fabric when possible, I think having more layers helps with thinner fabrics. I’m left curious on how you start off again on a rolled hem after you’ve run out of thread in the middle of a hem. I think that would definitely be helpful to see. Great content!! I hope you continue to do this!

I paint silk scarves and I want to sew a hand-rolled hem using silk thread. Is it all the same with habotai silk 10mm(momme) and silk charmeuse 19.7mm(momme) as what you showed here with the cotton?

normally there's no need to press it, but you can judge if you need to like if the fabric is wrinkled.
