I ended up tearing my acl because I wore FG boots on AG and my cleat actually ended up getting stick in the turf and prevented me from making a cut, as a result my knee buckled and now I'm out for a long time.

They NEED to make more AG football boots MORE! Simply because AG grounds are getting more popular. And there aren't much available of AG boots. Too sad.

Great video - I tore my LCL 3 months ago wearing a pair of Mizuno Rebula Elites on AG. I'll hopefully be allowed to play again in 1 months time, but I'll be opting for a turf / AG only model from now on. The risk of ligament damage is probably quite low, but take it from me, if it happens it sucks.

Jeff just a little but of a suggestion, I kind of felt like the music in the background was a little bit annoying

I bought the magista obra 2s in an FG stud pattern and within 6 months and they were torn up and the bladed studs on the ball of the foot had broken and I was so confused and disappointed but I found out the hard way and this video really helps clear up some of the questions I had with it thank you so much

I had a conversation with someone who tore their ACL from wearing fg studs on an ag field. That pretty much convinced me to get an AG-PRO stud pattern for my upcoming season

Hey Josh, great video, needed this one. I recently bought the Nike Premier II FG, as I love the traditional feel to that boot, and play on AG. BAD IDEA, it gripped so much. Sometimes I tripped just because it over-gripped at times, especially for the first 3 weeks. I only play on turf, so don't want to blow out a knee. Just ordered the Adidas Purespeed x17+ because of the AG/FG hybrid. Really helpful vid, thanks man!

I am 2 weeks post ACLR thus really regret not listening to this advice first beforehand buying the FG Mercurial XIII and had my left foot planted while turning. I have since bought a turf boot & messi's 15 years Nemeziz as the studs are more rounded and shorter compare to the aggressive studs of Nike. Thanks for the advice again

Just got blackout Vapor 12 Pro AG’s and I’m in love with them

I bought the Mercurial Vapor 11 Ag pro on 2016 right after the European Cup and for the 2016-17 season I wore them along with 3 other pairs for training on natural grass although it was very bad and all went very well. The next season (17-18) they were my main football boot I wore them all the way from pre season on almost every surface except for SG and they still last to me. I recently got the Vapor 12 but I still wear my 11s it’s hard to say goodbye to them they are in decent shape and I have to say that they lasted my 2.5 seasons with heavy use in different surfaces. Very good and important video guys. Ps. From personal experience don’t wear fg studs on plastic surfaces, not only you’re flirting with acl injuries but you’re putting extra pressure on your joints and lower back especially. Don’t be afraid to wear even 40-50 dollar boots with no studs at all at AG. Health over all.

Rolled my ankle hard in bladed cleats on AG before but the trade off is you can cut laterally a bit quicker

Bladed stuts are more risky on FG, too. Where were some statistics from a german university at the mid or the end of the 00s that showed that stud patterns with more bladed stuts lead to a higher risk for torn ligaments.

Hey man... here I come back two years later, torn acl🙁😫 I was wearing my superbly 360s and well I got tackled and a trip to the orthopedic later and an mri later it’s torn

I was about to mention the Morelia Neo as a great AG/FG option, then I watched the last two minutes of the video since I play almost exclusively on turf. I've been wearing the boot since they released(aside from a few months with the Basara, bad stud pattern for turf, and the Puma King SL Classico which fell apart immediately, softest leather I've felt on a boot though) and they're a fantastic AG boot. The do wear a bit quickly and you start getting soleplate separation from the rubber bits after a few months which is always a downside but they are pretty durable. I still occasionally play in my original Hulk green colorway boots and they are still in in playable shape, a bit dingy but I think the Neo I was a lot sturdier than the Neo II.

Those Mizunos are pretty durable if you play on AG surface because of the rivets that prevent sole separation

I wore ag pattern boots and my heel was always hurting and then i swapped to fg boots. Superfly 5 with the fg didint seem to make my heels hurt unlike the ag version of some mercurials. Currently have vapor 11 fg version and i play on both. Ag and Fg.

I've been playing for 35 years.. I learned more about soccer boots in 15 minutes then I learned in 35 years

I feel like the type of turf is often overlooked I use FG boots as well as everyone else at my school for all sports but I do not find any "cling" to the ground.

The thing is I have 2 pair of boots they are both FG but one of them are the x 17.1 whicb the studs don't have as much traction but I think it should be ok because when I'm playing on AG im usually just taking shots and doing drills with my friends nothing vigorous.

Any recommendation on FG/AG boots on a modest price( less than $100). Thanks again for the great video.

Well I am aware of the danger of playing with fg boots on an ag field but barely any websites sell ag cleats so I had to get an fg pair of boots after playing with an ag pair of cleats.

Are MCS cleats suitable for grass and turf or should I stay away from mcs cleats altogether for football

I can't tell the difference between ag and fg studs patterns, how do you know which is which?

The whole of last season 1-2 of my matches were on grass pitches they were all on 3G pitches and I training on Astro during the winter in summer I train on grass and in my last match i was wearing messi nemeziz Fg studded and I got 2 footed tackled by 2 players are the same time and they didn’t get the ball and they didn’t even get a yellow all I got was subbed a near broken leg winded and a free kick

A some one who plays on AG in north Texas, some days the temp of the field were as high as 150! And I can confirm that playing with FG boots on AG will make your feet feel like they are on fire. I plan on buying some AG cleats soon

Just be clear, if the surface temperature of the field is that high, your feet will be hot no matter what boots you wear. AG boots are just better suited to deal with the heat.

We can use also AG on a natural grass?

Thank you for the tip! I was wearing FG studs on artificial turf surface and tore my ACL cos there was too much grip and my knee got stuck with the boots while i was turning! SNAP! Very dangerous! Guys please get the correct footwear. It saves lives! Football lives!

You can get away with it depending on the turf sole pattern, but it's never ideal.

I tour my meniscus wearing fg cleats (if your asking what that is it is a tissue in your knee) I was out for 6 months.

What about to play with MG on AG fields? Is it safe and can we get a nice performance?

I play on AG using FG and my studs got damaged. the stud was round but after playing on AG, it became like smaller. This happens to anyone else?

So are ag studs and conical studs the same thing?

Don’t play with FG on AG I got a slight injury from it. I was running and then my foot got like stuck and my foot was turning and I messed up my ankle. If I had Conicle studs I would have been ok. Thank God I was only hurt for a couple of days but there are people that say they torn there acls and stuff like that.

Thank you Josh! I have been waiting for this content for like forever! I had trouble with my Adidas X 17.1 FG/AG plate, playing on artificial grass and feeling not really secure. Now I am hesitate whether to buy another pair of boots, Hypervenom phantom 3 AG plate for the sake that I almost always play on artificial grass. Could you reply to me whether the X17.1 is suitable for playing on Artificial Grass or should I buy another AG boots with some boots recommendation please, I look for a firm pair boots that let me dribble confidently.

Yes it is, but as you said that some FG/AG plates are more for a firm ground, so I wonder if the X17.1 sole plate is suitable for playing on artificial grass.

Wow and to think today I bought Hypervemon Elite DF FG for $60 and it was the only one left in my size and they had the AG ones in the model section, and btw my school’s grass is AG

so AG boots usually have more studs and what not? Im from NZ and no one plays on AG here

What’s the difference between turf and artificial grass playing surface? Sorry if this is a dumb question btw my area/tournaments I go to usually just have normal FG fields.

I use FG indoor for maximum damage. Now seriously I'm a keeper and I prefer to use FG on both turf and natural grass, one reason is finding AG boots (the conical ones with holes) is very difficult over here, all you get are the ones that look like sneakers with a bunch of little studs and since I want a single pair of boots using one of those on natural grass is a no from me, so that's why I just go for FG, so far I have not had any issues with them even on very shallow ag fields.

I honestly think on dry AG, turf shoes do more than enough of a job most of the time. look at mundial / kaiser teams as they have the most aggressive turf sole you can find. If you play on really high quality ag or its really wet, and you feel you're slipping, then try either the nike premiers or Tiempo AGs. Both have the some of the shortest conical studs on the market and are easy to find. I know mizuno and puma offer really short mg and ag patterns, but I personally find them a bit weird as they don't feel the same as normal boots or tf shoes. It really triggers some sort of OCD that I have (especially seeing as I got injured on AG where my shoes got stuck) but the best answer is that there is no one size fits all option. I think you should always carry 1 pair of TFs and one pair of studs and decided based on how you feel during the session, as turf conditions can vary a lot, and slipping isn't fun either lol.

Pros got better body (muscle) and flexible to afford those extra weight they got tho. Just they are more athletic. But normal ppl doesn’t have that kind of body and other reason is field in pro are ACC
