I don't think the waiters are trying to trick tourists. When you're sitting at a table you're supposed to get a gyros plate (Greek or tourist). The wrap is on the go.

Sebastian, I returned from Greece a couple of weeks ago and was about to message you about how you failed to explain what a "gyros portion" was in your original souvlaki video. And now I wish that I had noticed this video before going. It would have saved me a lot of confusion. Regardless, thank you for all of the information. I hope to hire you the next time I travel to Greece.

A safe way to get a wrap is to ask pita with souvlaki (favourite of mine as I don't eat gyro) and there is absolutely no way for the waiter or the griller to mix it up.

My grandma is Greek and from how I understand it it depends on what area you are out in Greece and she always told me gryo is pronounced yero. She'd always correct me . She said they moved over here from Greece speaking the Greek language and had to learn English she's 97 now.

I just returned from Greece (Thessaloniki, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete) few minutes ago and saw this video... Well, it is "Pork Gyros Pita" and it is super clear everywhere what you want. Locals knows well that we are tourists. Every "food maker" has clear list of products that they can offer. Souvlaki is everywhere understood as "meat on stick", doesn't matter what kind of meat. Just don't make it too complicated. I am happy to eat something else than greek food again after two weeks :D
@Rousseau4469 Жыл бұрын
You can eat as much as you like from the portion of 15 euro and just ask the waiter to put the rest in a box with the pita pieces onions tomatoes french fries and tzatziki to a box and take it with you. Which is the most clever think to do not to let all this food go to waste. Most air bnb's these days have a microwave so you can take a big plate from the kitchenette they also have and put the meat potatoes (if the portion had) pita and bring it up whatever temperature you wish. DONT PUT IN WITH IT tzatziki or tomatoe and cucumber you will ruin them. Along with a beer is a complete meal. That way you will savor the tastes more. I have noticed many times that reheating my poikilia ends up equally or ever more tasty especially if I overheat them a bit for a short time though. It forces the meat to get rid of more fat and ends up way more crunchier which I adore. It's an acquired taste and it doesn't mean that everyone should do it unless you are in to crunchiness.

Even names are based on Turkic words.. -Dolmadakia " Original Turkish version is Dolma (Dolma means stuffed)" -Moussaka is came from Musakka word ( It's turkish word also) ... There are tonnes of foods that came from Turkey.. They even didnt chance their Turkish names.. :/ So I can agree Greek cousine one condition...
