Don't Listen To Anyone Who Says You Can't Be A Pro Screenwriter - Jay Fingers

Jay Fingers is a novelist, journalist, editor, and emerging screenwriter. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, before attending film school at the University of Miami. After college and working in Miami Beach’s nightlife scene for several years, Jay moved to New York City - Brooklyn, specifically - where he wrote four books: Guestlist, Kisses for Tati, Orange Mound and Manhattan Sweetheart. Deciding to fully pursue his lifelong screenwriting ambitions, Jay relocated to Los Angeles, where he currently lives and has been tirelessly working on spec scripts.

►WE USE THIS CAMERA (B&H) - buff.ly/3rWqrra
►WE USE THIS SOUND RECORDER (AMAZON) - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

Improbable but NOT impossible. If you really want it, you owe to yourself to try everything you can.

Being a writer and both easy and difficult and a lot of it comes down to your imagination.

If it was impossible, no one would be a screenwriter.

Some people just don't have talent though. I think helping then not wasting their time is also helpful. Especially making money by art or sports is not for everyone.

If I quit now, it will never happen. Rome was not built in a day. Consider labs, writing a few shorts, and writing a few pitches. This business can be stressful if you overwhelm yourself with pumping out 100-page features. Also considering working as crew or staff on films. Stay positive

It’s very hard to be a successful screenwriter and make it a lifelong career. Don’t give up your day job to write. Don’t spend thousands on film school. Get a degree that pays you every day. Write nights and weekends and if you have talent and get lucky great.

Maybe for you. Follow your dreams, don't let some anonymous dude on the web discourage you. I promise you someone told Arron Sorkin the same thing before he became ARRON SORKIN.

Dont worry. With all the garbage that's on Netflix, I see it's really not that difficult to be a "pro" screenwriter.
