0:00 - Intro
1:20 - TIP 01 - In some way your work has to be autobiographical. Be vulnerable with your own emotions, dig deep, explore your fears and put your specific truth out there. People are drawn to truth like magnets.
3:58 - TIP 02 - Write your own TRUTH that you haven’t seen represented in a movie before.
5:24 - TIP 03 - Like in jujitsu - if you can predict what and where an audience is going to go, or what they think you’re going to do, you can use that momentum against them.
7:20 - TIP 04 - The best advice for writer’s block: Follow the fun. If you aren't having fun, you are doing it wrong. Allow writing to be your hobby.
9:57 - TIP 05 - When producers interfere with your work don't “pop-off”. Every critique has something of value. Listen patiently and then think of creative ways to solve the issue.
12:21 - TIP 06 - A good story can be transformative and do the most for social change. So use your intelligence and make audiences think when crafting your stories.
13:40 - TIP 07 - Writing a screenplay is a combination of gut inspiration and a strategy to focus on things that work which don’t require a huge budget.
15:20 - TIP 08 - When writing comedy or horror know that both present the truth. With both forms technique is tension building and release.
15:51 - TIP 09 - Use writing projects to dug you out of your own fear and darkness. And use that fear to learn how scare the audience with your work.
17:21 - TIP 10 - Take big risks and put your love into it. It can take a long time, but in the end it does pay off.

Wow. Jordan Peele really hit a lot of strong points here. He shared 10 recipes for climbing out of a hole and writing a script you love. It kinda bugs me that I didn't discover this channel sooner. Much respect and thanks to the creator of this channel. You deserve millions of subscribers.

Such raw honesty in Mr. Peele's simplicity. Things we've all been told but laid out in a manner less pretentious and just, forward. "We are all human."

Most filmmakers nowadays don't use tip 6. This is why Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite filmmakers. Great video!

Ehhhh I wouldn’t say that’s right. I’d say it’s the opposite actually. Far too many filmmakers use tip 6 way too hard, and their films all have to be packed with some message that promotes a government narrative/agenda. Did you know the CIA has a liaison in Hollywood? The CIA routinely watches over productions to make sure the movies are properly set to “influence” the audiences that see them. It’s disgusting. Tip 6 has been morphed into something monstrous.

I had an idea while walking my dog. I was 28. It stayed with me and irked me for a couple years. I decided to try to let it out. I wrote some stuff . It didn’t work. But the thought stayed with me. Couple more years goes by , I’m 32. I tried a few more pages a little longer drawn out. It released the urge of what was nudging me. But it I left it at that. A few more years . Same thing and not much different. Then at 40, me and my dog 10 years older, I decided to make it through a a beginning , a middle and end. Turns out , Sometimes an idea can be a curse. I’ve discovered so much within the creation of making a world , it’s a wonder I never bothered to leave my own before.

Wow, it's scary how I resonate so much with this. I had hoped by the end of reading that you would find solace and completion in having finished telling the whole story idea all these years. I'd love to hear more about it as both we and Peele have these stories that bubble up from our subconscious. It's time we tell those stories. I have many of them to tell, myself. All the best to you brother. Keep going, dreaming and actualizing. 🤘🏾💚

LOVE THIS! The main points I took away from this is that writing takes time, using your fears as a source for writing and also just have fun when writing! And I can say, I most certainly am trying to have fun with my screenwriting. Follow me for updates on my script as I will soon convert it into a motion comic book.

To be cited among legends just because of one movie, makes me wonder how much of it is just the PC culture we are living in. The advices are alright, but the comments are presenting them into something epic and legendary, which to me is extremely overblown.

totally racist white hating movie but well done first act and second... the final act gets pretty implausible and corny horror tropes.
