I'm a retired Park Ranger. I started as a Park Aid while still in high school, became a Seasonal Park Ranger my last 2 years of college, and got a full time job upon graduation. I served in TN, KY, CA, AL, GA, FL & MS before retiring. Night patrol, particularly on lonely roads where I might drive for hours without seeing another person, can get interesting. My greatest concern was always with the human monsters of this world, not ghosts, satanic cults, or creatures belonging to cryptozoology. I suspect what appeared to be satanic shrines that I occasionally came across were more the product of board high school kids than the occult. I'm not saying that I didn't get spooked once or twice, but having a pistol close by put things into perspective. I believe our species survived because we have always had a healthy respect for what may lurk just beyond the light of our campfire. Streetlights have mostly replaced the campfire, but that same healthy respect for what may be hiding outside the circle of light has stayed with us.

Exactly, other than possible bear or cougar (the other non urban type ) the random nature of people who are f’d up in the head are the only concerns I have while in nature. My police issue 357 at my side gives me a peaceful easy feeling for myself as I stare into the fire or hike some trail ... it is virtually impossible for anyone to approach outside the light of the fire without the sticks or night creatures alerting me ... I can help anyone else too and will, with caution, not hesitate to do so. Irresponsible ppl out there, that actually have no real malice towards others are common, I just want them to quiet down, be arrested, fined and/or thrown in jail .. any others with criminal intent towards others which is quite easy for me to detect (and I’ve known some) my empathy for their well being disappears entirely as if i totally rejoined nature in the most basic way and I am very comfortable with it

After I retired I camped out in various state parks for 6 months straight. I loved listening to stories like this on my phone while camping totally alone in the fall and winter months in parks that were abandoned for the season. I never had any strange experiences, but these stories made me more alert and cautious, and made me become more aware of the sounds of the forest and watchful of any changes in my surroundings.

There are certain Native Indian tribes that initiate their young men into "manhood" by sending them off to spend time alone in the woods. There are women that do the whole Appalachian Trail (over 2000 miles) by themselves. The biggest enemy (as it was alluded to in this story) when out in the wilds is oneself and its inner fears. Conquer that and the "spooky things" will stay away from you out of pure frustration. "Fear is only as deep as the mind allows." - Japanese Proverb

Suspect McFreeperson - yeah man. NT is amazing and grossly underrated right now. first time I heard one of his stories and fell in love with his narration. When he does ones that have emotional pain or loss in them you can really hear it in his voice and he does it so well you start to believe he actually is the main character and lived through the events he's narrating. KingSpook is another great one with a unique style. there's a handful of amazing narrators on YT that have yet to be in the direct limelight like MCP, who is kinda overrated and exaggerates his readings. NT is definitely the best out of all them, and he looks like Thor to boot. lol. You should check out Volgun if you haven't yet and like SCP related stuff. he's the actual voice of the plague doctor from the game and is an amazing voice artist.

Oh my god this happened to me and my daughter 4 weeks ago. I have a recording.. We were stalked for 6 days by an old man/shapeshifter or whatever it was in washington at battleground lake.. It mimicked throat clearing and coughing. Something grabbed my daughter after it slapped the side of our tent camper.. His eyes shown bright reflective yellow in my headlights.. The howling went on the whole time along with insane hooting of owls for hours upon hours.. this is very creepy beyond explanation because i have not been the same since this happened and either has my daughter.. 2 days after her left a man went missing 20 miles away.. I have a sketch of a wanted man from a missing persons report from 2011 that is this man/ shapeshifter same hat same glasses and his name is owl..

MEAN TEDDY BEAR its wierd u say this because about 2 weeks before this happened we were camping at paradise point in ridgefield wa and its only 10 miles from this other place in battleground connected thru the lewis river we had some wierd racoon experiences there was about 5 of them outside my tent for like 3 days and they were chasing the kids and fighting.. We thought it was odd and i ended up sick for 9 days. Hallucinating and a fever that wouldnt go away.. I almost died and the racoons never came back after the start of my sickness.. Our house was flooded and we had to stay in our pop up tent camper For a month and im almost sure whatever this thing is followed me from trout lake in wa.. Gifford pinchot national forest in September.. I had a nightmare for the first time in my life about a witch possessing my family attacking me and i woke up with sleep paralysis and i could not stay in that campground anymore so we went 2 miles up into forlorn lakes and it was getting kinda dark and we were on our boat and 2 owls tried to kinda attack us.. By flying at us.. The wierd part is after my sickness was ended i sime scary visions/ dream of these owls with viscous faces.. When we got to battleground lake 2 days after the owl visions is when that thing showed up and when i started looking into any older men wanted or stalking people in wa i found the sketch of him online and his name was OWL.. Scared shitless at this point.. The owls at the campground in battleground hooted for endless hours so loud it echoed.. I don't believe in coincidences so honestly im kinda trying to figure this out.. We have hsd endless bad luck since the camping trip to trout lake wa.. Its right by mt adams

Well my most serious incursion was when I was gathering fire wood at night on a mountainside. I happened upon a mountain lion. I guess it was my lucky night since I'm still here. But that's the reality of it. Since visibility is piss poor finding things you don't want is easier than things you do.

After I retired I lived out a dream and camped alone for six months. I had a couple of weird experiences which I have posted to other channels, but the experience was just as great as I had hoped. Being totally alone with nature in an extremely remote area is a life altering experience, and I wouldn't discourage anyone from experiencing it. Just be aware of your surroundings, be alert of every sound, and never, I repeat NEVER, show fear. Whatever creatures lurk in the forests and wilderness areas of the country feed on our fear.

Nice narration and spooky story! On the topic of hearing voices in the woods; I heard a baby crying in the woods behind my house, and a woman was singing in my backyard. (Also wooded.) I know the woman wasn't normal, her voice was moving but I didn't hear any footsteps, she also scared the horse she was moving passed. As for the baby, no one has a baby anywhere near my house, and it sounded like an infant.

Most people might not agree with me but I’ve studied this. Being a depressed person you get multiple mental problems, you developed a Fear for a skinwalker from stories. Being depressed your mind worked off of what it heard and saw on stories The fear grew into a illusion which you saw in a Forest as your fear developed more.

That was good! Very few creepy pastas are creepy to me. But that one got me a little. I often go camping alone. One night at 1am i was bush walking in a very dark valley in Cairns Australia. I would turn off my flashlight and try to walk using the light around me. I enjoyed spooking myself alittle while trying to be calm. At that moment i happened to be thinking of bigfoot, yowees, yeti, as i know them to be called, when a possum went off its nut in a tree about 5 feet away at head hight. I must of scared it. It 100% scared me! Adrenaline 100! True story. 😲

yo real talk, my homie and i were up in that same area in colorado. we found this crazy big spinal column from something big. my buddy was like 6 even and laying down next to it the spine itself was at least 9 feet. i think it was some kind of elk or moose maybe, i dont know much about that stuff though. but right after we heard this big animal growl and heard something snap. as we were heading out of the woods the weather picked up and lightning struck one of the trees near where we found it. we got stuck at the bottom of a hill we had half hiked half climbed down and with the rain coming down like it was, we almost never made it back up the road. at the time, it was just like, "whoa, we gotta get to the car before some bear gets us" and were kinda thankful since the storm we figured, would have scared it to shelter. looking back, it might have been a skinwalker trying to eat our asses for disturbing his big ass bone.

I had a pretty scary camping experience with my dad and my uncle when i was very young that ill never forget.. long story short we were camping on the shore of a medium sized lake and as we were sitting around the fire for a few more moments before going to bed we all felt like we were being watched despite this we all got in the tent and went to sleep in the middle of the night i woke up to something stomping around outside our tent i was very scared and stayed quiet but i woke up my dad and uncle and we waited for the noise to stop and went outsode the tent to investigate and was nothing since we were all kind of shaken by this we werent tired anymore and sat around the fire.. some time passes and all of the sudden something very heavy sounding and fast ran either past/away in the woods nearby and needless to say that was terrifying and we definitely wernt sleeping now a few minutes pass and from accross the lake we hear someones dogs maybe 5 dogs ,give or take, all start barking at the same time and dont sound happy.. they bark for about 15 seconds then all at once all of the dogs start yelping, screaming, whining, etc the best way i can describe it is they sounded like they were being murdered this goes on for about 5 to 10 seconds then all at once it stops... morning came we left, havent been back since..
