Hello Paul.. You are right there.. But don't forget that the outward is a product of what was in the heart.. Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. So God knows your heart before you even show it out to men..

@@roselynn816 define modesty! In my language (Brazilian Portuguese) the word ‘modéstia’ only means “not thinking too highly of yourself”, the contrary of boasting and bragging. When God saved me outside the confines of church culture, I never knew clothing was an issue with God until I got to know the culture of the church. God made me aware of so much sin in me. But never that wearing little clothing was an issue (at least when it’s acceptable to wear little clothing such as sports and the beach.). Ask yourself this question: will the amount of cloth in my body really make me a more loving person towards fellow man? --------------- The Greek word for modesty is ‘Αἰδώς’ (aidous). Some translate it as a feeling of “shame”. Others translate it as ‘humility’. It’s hard to define “modesty”.

I notice that 99 of 100 churches have people that come week after week who can't be bothered to put on something nice. "God accepts everyone as they are," they say. While that's true, there is a serious heart problem when you would honor the courts, your child's graduation, a night out, a funeral, or a job interview more than you would the house of God.

My friend, the most common misconception is that we are to look presentable once a week. Nothing can be further from the truth. We are to be found watching, waiting (and being acceptably clothed) at all times. A good servant does not dress to impress churchgoers. He/she dresses in accord with the Scripture every single day- for it is the LORD who searches our hearts at all times. A long, roomy skirt or a dress (never trousers), a loose-cut, cleavage-covering, elbows-covering top, a simple pair of flat shoes and a headcover (1 Corinthians 11:5-6) are a daily must. All made with pure cotton, wool or linen, not mixed fibres. No braided hair, no make-up (ever), no jewellery. I dress every day for the LORD.

Taking it with other context, it may be indicative of something. But, unless it is something obviously wrong to wear anywhere as a believer, would this not fall to a matter of conscience? And, there are some who do not have anything nice. The church building is not the house of God, it is the meeting place of the Church. My question to you is to analyze the 'why' behind you noticing it, whose glory you are seeking in it, and whether you have talked to those who dress that way to explain why. I am not guessing the answers, but it's something we all need to consider when we think there is something wrong with others.

@@bjornegan6421 "The woman shall not wear that which pertains unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD your God." Deuteronomy 22:5 Can you imagine a woman in the Old/New Testament times wearing pants (that expose the shape of the legs and butt)? "Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire" 1 Timothy 2:9 "Do not let your adorning be external-the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewellery, or the clothing you wear- but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious." 1 Peter 3:3-4 Longer sleeves are a part of modesty- you don't want to show off your arms or expose your armpits. Flat shoes are again part of the modesty look. Why would any Christian woman wanted to be sensual wearing heels? And why would she be so vain as to prefer bunions, hammer toes, knee and hip problems to a pair of healthy feet? "But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. " 1 Corinthians 11:5-6 Paul was saying nothing new- Israelite women in his times wore a headcover from the moment they got up to the moment they went to bed.

@Bjorn Egan Psalm 122:1, Isaiah 56:7, Luke 19:46. I'm certainly not talking about people who don't own anything decent or nice. That's a pretty standard argument I've heard many times. My attitude is perhaps partly shaped by my time in the Navy. If you're working, you put on dungarees. If you're going to stand watch, you put on a dress uniform with ribbons. If you're going to a change of command, you're going to need to break out your white gloves and medals. If your attitude is that you'll put on trousers and a nice shirt to meet with your child's kindergarten teacher, but you show up to church looking like a slob who just rolled out of bed, there's a problem.
I knew a church where the members dressed like puritans, long skirts on women and pants forbidden. Those people were some of the most hateful, proud, hypocritical and spiritually abusive people that I've known. It's good to dress modest, but if you are proud of your modesty to the point that you look down on others than you are doing it wrong.

I wear a suit to church because I’m going to meet a King, and a suit is the best clothes I have. If the best clothes I had were still some jeans and a single t-shirt with no holes, then I’d wear that.

Nonsense horse shit. You're not going to meet a King when you go to church. Christ already lives in you, dress appropriately for that sake, in reverence to the life of Christ in yourself, and in being able to honour Christ in another. Let your clothing demonstrate the virtues of patience and kindness and gracefulness. And do not grow haughty because your clothes are "fit for a King to see you in". We congregate with one another for the perpetuation of love and good works. Let that be all of the reason you congregate. From that place every good fruit will grow.

...no, he said dont dress like somebody who lived 400+ years ago. thats why its weird. unbelievers are far less likely to check a church out if theyre dressing and acting ancient for no reason. hence why he said "puritan". it wasnt a message about dressing to show off. hes talking about mainly orthodox type of stuff, tho they are true christians still.

Me too. I'm 20, and it's taken a lot to go from basing my identity on things like my dream car to how I can serve others. The young (and usually arrogant) only see the external superficial things, rather than what's on the inside like Jesus.

Yep Paul Washer got it more right than King Solomon and all the Christians of the first 500 years. I guess Gods plan was to have Christians worshipping incorrectly for 2000 years until Paul Washer could come tell us the truth that none of the early Christians had access to. Thanks Paul!

We should always dress is attire that glorifies God everyday in the modest sense and to adorn ourselves with good deeds, not big jewelry pieces and what not (not accusing you of such).

I doubt it's THAT fine. Look back at Christians of the distant past. Paul dressed like the cultures he was in. He even shaved his head to be accepted by a community of Gentiles so he could preach there. Shaving ones head was shameful for a Hebrew! These people all wore what was acceptable for the time. The things Paul warned against women wearing were how prostitutes of that era dressed - so there's your line.

Luxury is the word that hit me. I had to look it up because I am an artist and we in the art world have often called art a luxury and not a necessity. After reading the definition of luxury, it does look to be sinful. So what is art then? Maybe we should see art more as a necessity, because it really is inescapable to have art intermingled into everyday life. And art as objects of beauty seem to be something God loves himself, his creation is beautiful, it basically IS art, so as mini-creators we give God glory by making and displaying these objects that reflect his beauty.

Don't feel guilty for being attracted to people if it's not the skin you will look at the face and then women will need to wear full on heavy clothes like what you see in Muslim society. Even the eyes are to attractive in some cases and if we don't want to have the women have the blame for stuff then get used to living with girls like that. Now I presume this is like hippy cloths here any other is a little much and I think they want people to look at them But LOOK NO TOUCH don't feel guilty with your own biological needs If God didn't want it this way all women would be stupid ugly and men would avoid them so this is all a part of his plan right? Now I don't personally believe in God but if you do you gotta wonder why you should feel guilty on the nature he gave you.

Having attended a church where they had a "Bible study" on the importance of wearing the right kind of tie, there are churches where this message is badly needed! It's so preposterous to imagine that God is pleased with you on the basis of how nice your clothes are. I've heard the classic "well you'd dress up nicely if you were meeting someone important!" Yes... that's because I think it might impress them, and because I think they will judge me by my outward appearance. If you think that's what God is about, you don't know Him.

@@gfbc1689 "always reforming" would perhaps be a useful motto for many 'reformed' churches which have become stagnated, and reliant on faulty doctrine which they hold as unquestionable simply because they were a product of the last great reformation, where in fact they themselves are as much in need of reform as the Catholics their predecessors split from.

When God saved me in the 70’s. The people at church didn’t look weird. They were quite normal. Trust me, at 14 if you looked puritan weird. I would not even attended that church before salvation. I understand what brother Paul is saying. But, if you wanna be weird, don’t be surprised if people roll their eyes and walk on. Jesus dressed as His culture.

@@tonystout9118 I do get what you are saying and yes we are called to be all things to all people for the Gospel, but we also have to figure out how to put God as The Central part of our lives and fight back against anything in the culture that corrupts and teaches Christians to be like the world instead of centered on God.
This is something I’ve learned recently. I grew up in a Christian cult. You know the ones: Long hair, long skirts, no makeup, no jewelry. We left and I never looked back. But as a Christian mom now raising two young boys, I have started to see how that lifestyle can be tempting: to have a safe, simple place to raise your kids, sequestered from the evils of today. I’ve begun to ask God what’s so wrong with those groups who don’t associate with the world. Is that what He meant when He said, “be ye separate?” And I can’t help but know that it’s not. We are not meant to hide the gospel from the lost people.. they are not swine, they are lost. Let your light SHINE. You’re not shining your light walking in the grocery store, in passing, looking all strange, and “different.” Looking down at “the world” for being lost. No, we are called to move in this world in a bold way, not afraid, cultivating real, relatable relationships with people, and modeling Christ in their life. We need to be relatable. That is what paul washer is talking about here. Paul (the apostle) talked about seasoning your words with salt, as well as becoming like a Jew to witness to Jews, and a gentile to witness to gentiles. It’s about reflecting Christ. Not hiding from the ick of the world.

@@patatedouceyaim1407 The Parable of the Sower. Some Church's plant their seeds on Stony ground so they get quick exciting results but nobody sticks around. Some Church's plant seeds on thorny ground so due to allowing immortality into the church it is unable to flourish. Some pant on hard ground, just evangelize to look good. Then the few churches that succeed put tremendous amount of time into prepping guiding and laying down protections so that their followers stand faithful for Generations.

I’ve seen this clip posted before and I noticed 99% of the comments were solely focused on the clothing aspect saying he’s a hypocrite or a legalist because he’s saying not to wear certain things, but dear one if I could help you understand the concept he’s not talking about clothes here he’s emphasizing the concept we see in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. He’s right; look like the culture except where the culture contradicts the scriptures. God bless you ❤

If you read 1 Corinthians 11 for what it is, it is clear women should wear a head covering during prayer. This was a common church practice until the 20th Century. R.C. Sproul, John Calvin and Charles Spurgeon agreed on this too.

@@sanders194539 actually 1 Corinthians 11 makes it clear that the covering of a woman’s head is her hair and that is her glory and it is a shame for a man to have long hair for that reason.

...says the guy in a jacket & tie...😂 No-I actually get what he's saying and agree with him to a certain point. The thing to understand is this: God created you at a certain time and place, and put you in a particular culture for a reason. Your experiences have been used to shape you in ways that God can use. Love and follow the LORD with all your heart (spirit), soul (mind), and strength (body)-and be authentic in the process. IOW, don't change something about your culture unless it runs contrary to God's Word, and don't do things to try to impress people. Don't try to be 'normal' and don't try to be weird-try to be in the center of what God tells you to do.

@@lambree4947 It's not right to blame the women for that. You aren't being tempted by them, you know. (James 1:13-15). God made them that way. It's up to ys to treat them right. Saying that the way God made them is _causing me to sin_ is the same as calling their bodies sinful. But God took on human flesh. What was it that he purchased in the cross? Our spirits only? No. If he is going to raise us from the dead, then he bought our bodies, also. And that's the only thing those young women will being with them to heaven. If you're a man, then learn to treat women right. God doesn't want us to be virtuous because we can do no wrong. That's not virtue at all. What God wants is to have followers who can be trusted to carry their swords and not kill anyone with them. You aren't free from the sin of lust if you only avoid committing it because you don't have the opportunity! True freedom comes when, even when the opportunity comes, you don't obey the compulsion. I don't mean to single you out. I see this comment all over the place. It's not the women's fault. Blaming women for lust is as stupid as blaming the sun when it makes you blind. You have the choice not to look. Make it.

@@josephbrandenburg4373 I'm not blaming them for sin. But they do in fact cause people to sin by creating temptations when they shouldn't be dressing that way. People are responsible for their choices, but that doesn't mean people's choices can't negatively impact others. That is what I was trying to say.

I disagree if you dress lustful you will feel lustful and draw the spirits of lust to you ,if you dress holy you will feel holy and will draw the spirits of holy to you. If you are from hell holy dressing is weird and if you are from heaven , culture dressing or cult dressing is wolf's clothing. Reject this world by wearing Holy clothing and spirit of conviction will bring the onlooking sinner to their knees in pure Repentance. Shalom (King of kings)

He talking about people that are intentionally wearing styles from four centuries ago. To everyone saying "wear a suit to church or its disrespectful" - if Jesus didn't expect the disciples to wear the equivalent of formal attire in their time when they were in his presence, why would he expect you to do it. Don't you dare tell people that they are disrespecting the Lord by wearing casual attire to church. It's disgusting that you would add to the Bible like that.
I've gone off Washer because of his over-the-top intensity, but I still appreciate the message he brings. Praise God for it. A settled and grateful heart before God is the most attractive thing of all. Simple and modest behaviour and clothing will always accompany a believer walking closely with the Lord. I hope Washer's style doesn't dissuade the people he is trying to reach by his arguably condescending tone. The Lord loves us so much, and when we begin to truly understand the depth of that love and the security we have in Christ, the need to maintain any sort of image in this world (even a pious one) will steadily diminish. I doubt that those who dress like Puritans need to be yelled at. Many I'm sure are doing so as they believe it honours the Lord. If we are to correct that sort of behaviour, may we do it with gentle humility in suggesting a more contemporary approach. I don't believe publically (and emotionally) critiquing them from a pulpit is going to touch their hearts and encourage change. Thank God for believers who are willing to be considered weird for the sake of God and His gospel. They may be somewhat misguided, but I respect them far more than those who compromise with worldly standards. God bless you all.

Slaves, who were among Christ's earliest and most numerous followers, were sometimes so poor they didn't have any clothing at all. But no God has ever been kinder to slaves than the one who made the slave and the master brothers and took away any distinction between them!

The Holy Spirit placed on my heart to dress modest and pants should not be worn by women. This pastor would think I'm weird. I've been even publically mocked in that church when my pastor said, 'some people who cover themselves think they are sooooo holy' but the women who wear tight and short dresses, he never reprimanded them. The Word of God directs women to dress modestly but obeying Him doesn't make you a Puritan and a weirdo. This guy's message is mixed. Why didnt he quote scripture? Without holiness, no one shall see God. Another says, 'Let us worship God in holy attire '

Thank you for breaking it down so plainly. This makes it a lot easier to implement. Just keep it simple with no "sensuality, extravagance and luxury" which actually takes some of the stress out about getting dressed.
Paul Washer is one of my favorite pastors. Tells it like it is.
I really haven't seen what he's talking about, but then I live in the Southwest where "fashion" is as simple and basic as can be.

20:44 B’reshit bara ElohIM et hashemaim va’et ha’aretz. Literally in the first verse of the Bible, God (ElohIM) is one but referred to as plural(the IM at the end). And phonetically it sounds like his revealed name I AM. and Jesus’ name sounds like “Je suis” or I AM in French. God is a genius, praise him

If someone says, "Dress only this way to church." They are making an extra rule, but 1 Cor 8 teaches on this sort of disagreement. Please take note to love well.
