Bishop Brennan was my favourite recurring character, and an obvious jab at Bishop Eamon Casey!

Thank you Graham Linehan, Father Ted is up there with the Comedy Greats.

The casting of this sitcom was brilliant, all the actors (and actress - not forgetting Mrs. Doyle) were perfectly chosen for their respective roles. Jim Norton was also absolutely fantastic as Bishop Brennan.

Is it wrong to allow my 7yr old son watch Father Ted? He does love it a lot.

The actor who plays Bishop Brennan narrated a beautiful programme shown on Irish TV(RTE) called "Lighthouses of Ireland". He even turned up in an episode of "Cheers".

Pure genuis comedy throwing shade and jovial amenities to the Catholic Church at a time when IRA and attitudes towards the Irish were in the gutter late 80s / 90s. It’s a shame RTE didn’t pick this up in which case it got sold to channel 4 but people went wild for it and enjoyed the Irish humour (even though there are so many underlying and small jokes only the Irish will understand) I think C4 UK gave fr ted the platform it deserved. Amazingly brilliant comedy and based on real life x

This would have cheered me up, but it is too painful to laugh, after a couple of days of coughing up my Covid infested lungs. I couldn't make it past Ted and Jack's tug of war. Father Ted is one of my all time favourites...I will return, healthier and stronger. 😀

Bishop Brennan, disguised as a doctor, also appeared in an episode of Maigret with Michael Gambon in the early 1990's. No one kicked him up the arse in that though.

The writers were irreligious. I love Thomas Aquinas - taught that God is eternal existence, and on Earth manifested as WATER. I remember the scene where Fr Jack drinks water by mistake.
