Have you used this mat? Do you think it would work with the penguin insulated setup in this video given the condensation? Or would it just get soaked

@@davidmotch I have not personally used it, no need with my setups, but I know people who have and swear by it. The condensation doesnt pour onto the floor so I do think its a great option.

Yes - I’d like to see how much of a difference the cover provides if you only use ice

It would be nice if they made an insulated ice barrel 400.

in week 3 of cold plunging using an ice barrel 400 - would love to see this with ice only. I am in UT and have mine under a deck that receives no sunlight but want to try and find a solution before summer comes. It's nice letting mother nature regulate the temp for now!

thank you for another informative video, Dave. My experience with the ice barrel is slightly different though. I'm in Central Florida as well and when I first got my chiller about a month ago now, I turned it off one night because the sound of the chiller running was keeping my wife up. I turned it off two nights in a row and each morning the temperature changed about 12 degrees - from about 55 to 67 degrees over the course of about 12 hours. And that is keeping my barrel in my back screened-in patio, mostly shaded from the sun. The chiller was completely shut off though, so the water was not consistently circulating. That may have been a contributing factor. Either way, I'm trying a DIY insulation solution to save a couple hundred bucks but we'll see how it goes.

I’ve got the Penguin wrap and can verify that between 52-55°, I see little to no condensation. I suspect the 35° test you did is likely considered extreme. The wrap is better than nothing but it’s not comparable to a truly insulated barrel. My Penguin 1/2HP HE chiller burns 4 KWh/day in the Tampa heat (partial sun, only early in the AM) even with this wrap on.

You seem to have accumulated a number of chillers, would be cool to see an updated comparison of the different units. Just ordered the IB500(using your code) 2 weeks ago so I'm thinking of either the active aqua or eco plus, leaning towards eco just because it looks like I can get a little more power for the price and these brutal summers might need that extra boost.

Yo David, I got my plunge set up. I got the ice barrel 300 with a 1 1/2 hp eco plus, I went with a standard house filter running 5 micron right now, a ecoplus submersible, and 1” tubing. When I tighten the filter up completely I lose flow, the only way I have good flow is if I back it off a turn or two… it doesn’t leak, but I know it can’t be right. My water got cloudy fast, and I wanna dial this setup in. I appreciate any tips you could throw my way! Thanks!

At $220 I don’t see the value. You can have the ice barrel under a tarp (which is cheaper), an umbrella or under a roof. Wether you have a chiller or not, either save the $220 to buy a chiller or the insulated ice barrel. Just my thoughts. Great video homie. Keep ‘em coming!

Good information, I still like other units better. I’m looking for a unit with a chiller for that $2500 but as of right now you have to pay North of 3K. Hoping someday I can find one because really want to start my cold journey but money is definitely a factor. Also, I do have a question that is off topic. What do you think of Hydrogen water bottles and their Bio-hacking capabilities? This could be some cool videos for you and your audience…

@@DavidMausJr absolutely makes a difference, I’m inside my basement because is cooler and stays the same, ice barrel 400 without my ice was almost completely gone everyday and I was freezing bowls with the wrap I’m holding temps around 34/35 and my ice is staying all day and get thicker as I continue to put more in

I put my own insulation wrap around my 400. Probably spent $50 from home depot with some heavy duty duct tape. Had it wrapped bottom to top for over a year. Works great. No condensation and keeps my penguins 1/2 chiller running less and at a new pretty stable 43f
