The biggest gripe I had when I was driving OTR was moving over for another truck coming up the freeway ramp. Too many will come up alongside of you and then run the same speed as you. You can't get ahead, they won't back off, and if you back off, all the cars behind you move into the right lane to get around you. So, if you're getting on the freeway and another driver moves over so you can get on, don't match their speed, back off a little, let them get ahead and move back into the right lane. And then if you can run faster than them, move out into the left and pass them.

I usually just keep going. No need to feel guilty, he is the one in the wrong and caused me to be stuck in the middle lane when I got over for him. Sooner or later the guilt will eat him alive and he’ll eventually slow down or speed up, because he knows he’s in the wrong

  • @jeffs7707

I personally think the biggest insult is moving from the right lane to allow a truck to merge on a highway, get about to the point the back of my trailer clears their truck and they speed up so I can not get back to the right lane, passing me on the right.

Or they just sit next to you and match your speed. They are clueless. Lots of cars are bad about doing this also. It is happening so much now I might stop moving over - let them ride the shoulder.

I get them speeding up, im governed at 65 it makes no sense for a guy that can go 75 to wait for me just for us to play cat and mouse and switch lanes so he can pass. Just go ahead and pass me so i can get back over and we’re all good. Safer this way too

@@youngpatrick29 I have to disagree. I'm governed at 65 too. So, I move over to let the O/O with no governor out on the highway. He speeds up and leaves me in the hammer lane. Now all the traffic that piled up behind me moves to pass on the right lane and I'm left hung out to dry. I think it's just common courtesy. You moved over to let them out, something you didn't have to do, they should let you have your lane back. Just my two cents.

They waddle on out with 35 bags of windys or whatever , get in the friggin truck and drive right on thru the pumps and leave without even needing fuel !!! I hated to stop at any truck stop , but fueling was all most always a pressure point .

Younger generation of drivers typically don’t have CBs. There are times I’d love to throw it out the window, but it is one of the most important tools on the truck. Back in the day drivers used to bbq. Not seeing that anymore. I keep a lawn chair in the truck and used it many times at rest areas while talking with other drivers. I don’t think that “brotherhood” was taught and passed down to keep it going. Times are changing and not necessarily in a good way.

Quick little story..... My mom was a waitress at the Hilltop Café' in Holbrook, AZ back in the late 70's, I used to go there after school do homework , bus tables and pour coffee for the drivers. There were regulars and they all swapped stories, knew the waitresses and they knew the drivers. I even got to where I recognized the regulars and sat listening to their stories, some I probably shouldn't have. Now when I travel the truck stops have the fast food and everyone is in a hurry. Really seems like it was a brotherhood, no so sure about it now a days.

Amen!!! It is not unheard of for me to speak up when others are acting rudely or just being inconsiderate. I have told people to take a shower and to pick up their trash. I probably shouldn’t, but it just gets under my skin. Even people dressing like they just rolled out of bed when they go into the Shipper’s Office. I don’t want to look at you in your pajamas and shower shoes that you received while you were in prison. When at work, dress for work! I believe what we are seeing in a break down in society itself. In the trucking industry, I believe the Mega Carriers are partly to blame. How hard would it be for them to include this information in their orientation? I will get off my soapbox now...

@@SanDmaNTheFreakTrucker How many new truck drivers today start out as owner operators? Almost zero if not zero, because most insurance companies will not cover a rookie driver. Things are like they used to be in the 1970’s when someone could learn from their uncle and just go out and buy their own truck and be their own boss. The vast majority of drivers start out with a mega carrier, because those companies have pushed to have it that way. They get cheap labor from drivers that don’t have other options. So, I feel TOTALLY justified in placing much of the blame-not all-on the mega carriers. We need to educate drivers on the “unwritten rules” at the beginning of their careers, not five years later when they have their own truck. Hygiene may not be something we can teach, but how not to be a complete asshat is. I call a spade a spade. You trying to call me stupid for pointing out the obvious lacks substance.

This video is well needed, I have to say that. Some drivers are just too darn lazy or have the mentality to not think about their fellow truck driver's. I believe I've read an article someone wrote on a website TruckerTruth that there was a truck sitting at the island. No one inside the truck, truck was there for ages and people where trying to find where this driver was. And moments later on they found out that, it was a female driver coming back from a shower. Again I'm hoping to be a truck driver hopefully soon. But I know that its really not that hard. To get off your lazy butt and walk to a dumpster, patch of grass or dirt and even when done fueling go park somewhere that way your not holding anyone up to fuel. As well, if a trucker see's someone having a hard time backing up to park. Get out and be there to help him or her out. And just don't sit there and laugh or worry that they're going to hit your truck. Thanks for the great content and stay safe out there man.

If you gotta go inside for a sandwich, use the normal parking in the back , or at least pull far enough ahead so the next person can use the pump. 2) Stop behind the white stop line. If your further ahead than that, a full size truck and trailer won't get through. 3) If you off duty, and you see a tuck that needs to do something, signal with your lights and let em go.

10-4 on the handhold game. But please just let me add...if you are a four wheeler or a semi, don't hang out in the hammer lane if you're not passing. It's just plain dumb. Keep em coming Brian, stay driven buddy

There is no excuse for not having a CB radio, there are a lot of customers who use them for assigning doors not to mention using it for listening for road hazards. There is NO EXCUSE EVERY no matter where you are, in cities or in the middle of no where for you to be holding up traffic. Don't be a dickhead and speed up to keep traffic from passing you then slow down. Good video, have a safe trip.👍🏻

#11: you touched on this, but emphasize it, get a freaking CB and turn the damn thing on. I know the chatter sometimes gets a little annoying if you're in populated areas, but a CB can save your ass and it can help other people out if they would just turn the damn things on. I can't tell you how many times I have tried to tell another driver that they have a light out or they have a chain dragging, or even advise them of bad traffic conditions, and you can't get them on the radio. That radio is one of the best tools you have in your toolbox it can save you a lot of time and money. On the Middle Lane comment I somewhat disagree. If you're the example of 62 and a 75 I 100% agree. however, if you're traveling with the flow of traffic at the speed limit, the center lane is off in the safest place to be. You don't have traffic exiting and entering your lane like you would if you're all the way in the breitling, and people can get around you on the left side if they need to. By staying in a middle lane, you avoid having to make Lane changes over and over again as you come up on slower traffic and on and off ramps which take your lane. and this is coming from a guy that drives 99% of the time on two lane highways and dirt roads, so take it for what it's worth.

The CB is a great (and many times a dire necessity) thing to have. However, sometimes you just get sick and tired of filthy mouths and/or microphone warriors trying to start some mess. On the middle lane reply, I'm with you 100% on that.

Wow!!! Ok old soul! My mind set is and was drivers against the world. My pet peeves is in traffic jam truck needs to merge in four wheelers won't let them in. Professional drivers should take care of each other. I have gotten directions from n my cb....now you are on your own. I am a four wheeler now with my trucker heart. I am the one that holds up traffic to clear half a ramp trying to merge in. Pay it forward people not that hard. Blessings to all drivers that keep america moving.

I get what your saying about the middle lane, but however most people cant drive and don't realize with on ramps you must get to speed before merging. And they don't have the right of way when merging. For newbies to stay in one lane going through a big city its safer the less lane changes the less chance of an accident. Thanks enjoy the videos

I love your videos and appreciate everything you shared. I would love it if we would maintain the legal speed limits and not encourage spreading. At some point, I would expect our on board ELDs to report and ticket us for speeding as this is a very important safety issue (especially in bad weather and/or rush hour traffic). Thanks

When there is a traffic jam in a construction zone and you see signs a few miles before you get to it letting you know which lane is closed, not wait till the last 10 feet to switch lanes and cut infront of everybody else!!

Truckers use to be so tight there is a song convoy by C.W. Mcall. Great song and it speaks to what the community use to be and still is in some places. My dad drove a dump truck. They had a place they were all hauling out of and there were two different routes you could take. One was a major interstate and one a state highway. They kept the Dot bouncing back and forth all day using the CB. It was hilarious poor guy didn't know where to sit. Damn bear was starving to death 😂

100% agree on the trucker wave and everything else. Here in canada it's still very often done. Every truck that passes me we wave. It's a common respect standard here in canada at least. Unless they are making a turn or doing something where they can't see you then that's the only time you won't receive one. Generally 99% of the time they wave back. Hopefully it spreads in the US as much because it should be more common than not.

I remember runnin' the I-5 corridor back in 1995. It was different back then. I remember the back-row BBQ's lot has changed. Look out for each other. Don't be afraid to ask over the radio. and if someone snaps at you look for an old timer, we don't mind questions. I have done refer, flat racks, and vans. I don't know a lot but what I do know I have plenty to talk about. ****Also, IF YOU ARE TIRED PULLOVER, or at least talk on the CB to get someplace safe.*** I have lost too many friends who have met their maker by falling asleep. Take care and Keep Them Wheels Rollin, Big Mike Truckin
