Happy fourth of July!
The first video in our new format, turns out the advanced editing is much more difficult, but hopefully leads to much more enjoyable videos, and easier to take in bite-size chunks with the new 15 minute timeframe.
These are new, simplified guides, designed for brand new players (or relatively new) to be able to leap into a game, and have a few on hand strategies to get a "feel" for the nation. Enjoy, and the advanced guides later to come will go into all sorts of deeper detail.

Hey guys! Hope you love the new video format! It'll keep the videos under ~15 minutes for us, so those looking for an intro to nations, and a quick "how to kick ass with" said nations will have them! I've sped everything I do up, with a LOT more transitions and edits, which doubled my time - but its a skill I can improve at over time, so expect more videos in shorter timeframes from here on out. Next video, for the benefit of a viewer who has been chatting with me: Pretender creation basics, and WHY I select certain things for each nation/Pretender setup. For my coming nations, I'm thinking Muspelheim might be fun, but I want to get to several viewer request videos as well, so we'll see what happens in the next few days!

I really like the idea of a quick & to the point vs. full analysis setup, but i'll need to see the why video to really make an informed opinion.

Reaper love the new format, thank you for the vid! Interesting, quick, but still very informative. Your video editing skills will soon rival your Dom skillset! :P It may seem silly, but the on screen text really helps distill a lot of useful information. I feel a lot of other Dominions KZreadrs are trying to get across similar things, but it gets lost in these titanic hour plus length videos lol. Anyway happy 4th man!

Exactly what I was thinking! I'm hoping the short ~15 minute videos will break people into nations, and then I can make longer advanced guides where we go in and test stuff out, and discuss theory for a particular nation, and things like that. Glad you like it, and I'll be sure to keep as much helpful text as I can available, because it helps me (as a viewer) too! Love when I can freeze-frame something for my memory or to write it down! And happy 4th to you too!

I like the older videos much better. I got a lot more from ones like the Pangea and Ind videos.

Don't worry - I'll be having the "advanced" guide for nations, in which I'll be doing a format almost identical to those (without the emphasis on expansion, and simple things like setting up your main research mages). It'll enable those videos to stay closer to ~30/40 minutes, but be WAAAY more information on an in depth analysis of nations, and give you more tricks for your toolbox to play with ;)

@@edwardzdankiewicz9068 It definitely can be tough! That's primarily why I'm trying to offer something to both sorts of players. I'm going to dive a lot more into the pretender creation, and maybe do a "weekly bonus video" or something where I dive deep into crafting a pretender, testing it vs AI, and then spicing it up for MP before I run it. Would help people a lot, I think, seeing the process I go through. If you have any questions any step of the way - just ask. I'm happy to help!

I was just doing a search for Dom6 MA Ulm. : ) Regarding the pretender, what about a sorta-combination of #2 & #3? Something like #2's chassis, #3's paths, and maxed out Order/Productivity/Growth/Drain with everything else left alone? Also, ideas for different blessings?

  • @AOReaper

I've set up #2 with #3's paths, and debated doing that, but you end up running into a problem where instead of growth 2, luck 2, you get growth 1/luck 0 or some sort of combinations like that. Plus, you lose the early game advantage of the awake pretender that has ~51 research, which helps a TON with ulm's early issues on research speeds. I'd totally be open to different blessings, but the issue with Ulm is that you don't really have an effectively cheap sacred unit that can benefit from blesses, unless you pull some serious shenanigans with sacred undead summons or something wild super late (Tartarians with shrouds?). So your bless is aimed at 3 mages, that primarily have the following issues: 1. Human HP (even if higher than average) 2. Priest Smith no hat, Black Priest no hat OR armor, Master smith no hat. So no matter how you structure that bless, its going to effectively only be buffing (for the most part) 3 not very survivable troops. If you managed to pull some crazy bless out of the ether, you might thrive for a tiny amount of time, until somebody just began foul vaporing or earthquaking your mages to death. Too many vulnerabilities to shore up. I feel that the opportunity cost is best spent on things like reinvig, especially precision, and far caster/low light. The primary reason for this is to allow your mages to be artillery in the safest way possible for the lowest investment. You COULD instead try Reinvig x1, Spirit Sight, 5xundying, 3xheroism, and see if you could play a "shorter range, more survivable" style of mage-play. With the heroism you're getting more overall stats, but you're taking a lot of chances here, and it limits your ability to launch crap everywhere because of the lack of precision. Try it out and let me know! Keep in mind too that the precision REALLLLY helps when you get those rare but annoying assassin battles on your mages. Too often your mages just flings an evocation at the assassin and snipes them on round 1, so you're missing out on that too, even though it isn't that important :) And thanks for the comment and feedback! If you have any other questions I could help with, I'm happy to! This was an off-the-cuff response so if you'd like to dive deeper into this, just let me know.

@@AOReaper Wow, thanks for that thorough reply. : ) First, I missed growth in the scales above. Fixed my initial comment. Second, the bless I was thinking about was more about giving mobility options, like [terrain[ Survival and Swimming, so sacreds could be moved to the front more quickly. Still, I think I like yours better. Third, would Ulm have the mages to utilize research at the end of the first year? It's still expanding with the best MA troops anyway. Fourth, I don't want death and sunshine wrecking my economy; we're not playing Abyssia. I'm also *not* in the "Misfortune is free points! : V" camp. I've heard Dom6 punishes that hard.

@@AlgaeNymph Of course! We're all a team here - if we're not helping each other, who will? Mobility options like terrain survival IS certainly possible, but it essentially turns into a tool that YOU pay for, that your enemies can nullify simply by not having you walk through that particular terrain. Its really rough to turn that into an advantage, unless your troops get it for free. Swimming would be nice, if your game does rivers (believe it or not because of shenanigans in random map creation - rivers are often removed nowadays), but there are different ways to achieve that. I wouldn't spend points for "Map bonuses" when somebody else is spending points for "combat bonuses" if I planned on winning fights with troops. Plus - Ulm map movement is SO slow, that their only real answer are black knights, and that's tough. I actually did a segment on this last video where I recorded that, but left it out for time constraints, where black knights can travel multiple provinces in one turn to counter raiders. Ulm researches pretty hard at the end of the first year, as long as you've maintained drain for those points, and then pumped out those master/priest smiths. You have to remember: owl quills early, lightless lanterns mid. They absolutely abuse these items, and they should, to rocket ahead. Don't forget too: Ulm has 3 commander points, so essentially 1.5 mages per turn if you structure it right, so you get up there rather rapidly. If you prefer avoiding death and heat (which is countered in the winter), then take cold to punish OTHER players, and slow THEIR map movement down to bring them down to your level. Can't go below 1 province map move after all :P And then just reduce points of precision or reinvig to make up the points. Very versatile. I'm currently editing my "how to" Pretender creation series video #1, so it should be up by tomorrow. That should help a bit more, but I'm happy to help you dive even deeper here.
