Dominions 6: EA Fomoria Pre-game

Ойындар

This week we are checking out EA Fomoria, a land of wind and death. The Fomorians have gone through a lot, and we join them as their entire race is fading into the mists of history. Can we lead this motley crew to one last victory?

    Dark power just gives the listed value underground. Not sure why you're multiplying it by 3. You can also get better overview mod from workshop to have national summons show up on nation overview so you don't have to use inspector.

    Dance of the Morgans is one of the best spells in the game. It is usually an I win button. Front line of corpse men constructs, undead or Fir blogs with your giants behind, once the chaff starts dying then Morgans come in and they will hit the enemy backline and tilt the battle in your favor. Add in the fact you can cast Wailing wind and Wind of Death you have 3 of the top battlefield wipe spells. One, if not the only that can do both with the addition of glamor without all kinds of empowerment or relaying on your God. The Nemedian warriors are great and you use them if you go scales vs bless. The Unmarked do great if you go with the repel setup larger and +attack you can take regen in a dormant or imprisoned option with it if you want. Although the extra HP, repel does well with enchanted blood. The big boys are good for going under water or HP shields but you usually wont have many. The spear of the morgan is also one of the best weapons in the game for 8 gems and construction 3! While +Magic is always nice, but this is one of those nations that you want luck. 2 of their 4 hero's are great. The High King with his death gaze R15 10AN AOE 20 will delete squares of units. He has fear and is a more beefer King and is H3. You also get “Tuan“ - Last Partholonian and immortal sorceress a magic phase wind of death caster. Fomoria is powerful but difficult to play up to its full potential. You can never have enough death gems on this nation. I use to prefer Helhiem as they where a little more striaght forward to play and just as strong. The nerf to elf ponies, the glamor for air change plus the loss of blood Helhiem really got hit hard in Dom 6. While I will still play them MP they just dont have as many options as they use to in 5.

    A repel bless (larger + 5x atk) is pretty good on those spear-wielding sacreds; it can be taken on an imprisoned pretender for better scales and the nation needs fire magic from somewhere anyway. As others have mentioned, larger also kicks unmarked up to size 7 (to mix with Nemedians) and the barghests up to size 5 (optimal for 2 per tile). The nation doesn't have N2 mages to cast Enlarge, so getting it from the bless is the way to go.

    My first two thoughts would be larger or awe. This nation wants to be mixing its human sized and giant sized troops, and size 7 plus size 3 is perfect. Then for awe, fomoria is I think one of the premiere morale play nations. The tankiness of units with awe goes up massively when the enemy has its morale hit. A big glamour caster can also help you cast gates of horn and ivory.

    You are right, there is nothing called an elf. The term "elf" is community slang for the glamour, elite, high defense units - things like Vanir, Nemidians, Tir na N'og, ect. Kind of a catch all to talk about those units, as compared to the human stat line. Hope that helps clear it up some!

    Also in Dom 5 glamour/mirror image was WAY stronger meaning that even with a small squad of sneaking troop you could conquer province! Leading to the term "elfing" meaning you sneak a small squad of those "elf" into every future ennemy province more or less and when you declare war the entire ennemy land change color xD. And you never stop meaning that NO province would be safe from attack and you can't really know where it would come from

When you attack you randomly attack either the original or the image. Exemple if you have 5 image you have 6 target meaning 1/6th chance to attack the true unit. In dom 5 if you hit a false image nothing happen and the only way to remove it was to DOMMAGE (so after defense and protection roll) the real unit , that you have 1/6th chance to even try to roll against ... REALLY strong ! In dom 6 now when you hit a false image you destroy it meaning it get reduced quickly

    Earth Pretender to get crafting Hammers? I think the basic sacred troops are probably something you pick up some of to follow your Prophet and Pretender around rather than something you focus on a lot so you probably pick your Bless with other troops in mind and pass on them altogether if they don't seem good value with it. Sacred Summons are interesting though! (but apparently I always think that)

    Personally, I think trying to bless Fomoria's troops is a mistake. They're just not good enough, but you've got a number of interesting commander chassis that could have a number of blesses on them. A mage bless wouldn't be bad, nor would a thug bless. I think a thug bless probably adds the most depth to your nation, as all of your basic mages can cloud trapeze, and honestly your recruitable giants will benefit from most of the same stuff. You could also consider any blesses to be unnecessary and instead use your god pretty much exclusively for path diversity, and honestly I don't think that's a bad idea either. This nation could probably benefit from. Regardless, if the nation doesn't need a god to expand and doesn't REALLY need an awake researcher, I'd pretty much always take the god Dormant. It's just free design points. Alternately take a Fire Explosion-Swiftness bless and use Barghests like cruise missiles :P

  • @KermodeBear

    @KermodeBear

    I haven't played Formoria much at all, but on the surface, I think this analysis is correct. The giant sacred troops are a trap, I think, especially with their cost and abysmal attack density of 1. But those Kings? They don't need a whole lot of equipment to be effective thugs and they can self-buff nicely. A thug-oriented bless makes them even better. Expensive but terrifying. Being able to Cloud Trapeeze into your enemy's territory with 4-6 of those guys would be one hell of an opener.

  • @feelingveryattackedrn5750

    The sacred dogs can fit in a square with your non-king sacreds, thatll give you 2 sacred attacks per square. Kinda wish the dogs had 1 more attack but assuming you have something like awe or fear or both on them they can increase your sacred density a lot and help with morale plays. The issue remains blessing them easily.

  • @EvilTwinn

    @EvilTwinn

    5 ай бұрын

    @@feelingveryattackedrn5750 It's definitely worth considering. My big problem with it is that in my opinion you're still not accomplishing a whole lot in that square. Neither chassis is really giving you a ton to work with. Would you really get much from using your cap sacreds with the barghests as opposed to filtering them through just normal troops? But with all that being said, what blesses are you taking that makes it worth it and are those design points or bless points better spent elsewhere?

  • @BabelBuilder

    As cool as I think the sacred troops are, I think that is my conclusion too. They just are not good enough for a bless. This is compounded by actually having other good options, unlike say, EA Agartha.

    I think go D7 O0P2H1G1L0M1 on either D of War with 2Attack and blood surge or D of Thunder with 2Attack, 2LR, 1Morale. Production scales and dominion to get giants (with the H3 leader) and unmarked (with an H1) and plenty of size 3 chaff to fill up. D of Thunder maybe switch to Nemidians for expand party 3. Or go imprisoned with Attack, blood surge, Blur, lightening prot.

    Yes good with D of War as + Attack getting more hits and many repels and bloodlust up half+ the time so Giants got to exp 1 quickly and snowball but paths....The main problem with unmarked was their strategic movement and early bless inefficiency as I was wrong in that they need H3 more than the big giants - so just 1 a turn with the spare holy when getting basic druids. Not sure if unmarked are non cap for 2nd fort as did not get that far yet but if they are then their repel will be useful as well. Once cap circle cleared 3 giants a turn plus the formorian mage (using up 7 dominion) which has 5+ roles in order - high speed delivery of giant reinforcements (giants+ this mage the only 2 province mover combination!), giant blesser, build a temple for indi cleric recruits, combat magic, sites... Had to go to +3A on D of Thunder to get repels without bloodlust so only +5 lightening resist but paths more useful later I think. I think attack, high dominion and production critical and order zero/magic 1 also needed so no room for big blesses. @@BabelBuilder
