Dominions 5 Nation Intro: Late Age Arco

Ойындар

And here we are at the end of the Arco line!
Late age Arco takes the core mystic communion corps, adds a few nifty death related tricks, and wraps it up with a thin coating of Helinistic shock cavalry and armoured elephants.
All together this incarnation lacks the power of the nation's EA peak, but still brings a few extra tools into play which, coupled with excellent infrastructure discounts (cheaper laps, capturable temples, and non-sacred labrats) which should give you a chance to make a good account of yourself in the final age of the dominions universe.
Thanks again to my generous patrons for commissioning this video!

The Cerulean Maharaja is most interesting to me because it might be evidence that not all Bandar were so keen on Patala's Nagas.

My mea culpa for this video is getting the holy communion rules around the wrong way when explaining them. The combination that doesn't work is masters that are priests but not mages (so crystal matrix priests basically). Slaves that are not priests, but which are mages, are good enough as long as the masters are mage-priests.

On the subject of holy comunions - master has to be a priest and a mage(1 in any elemental or sorcery path will suffice), whereas for slaves you just need a way to plug into communion, so even pythium communicants will do, and those are not even commanders let alone mages or priests.

You actually cannot slave non-magical commanders even with a matrix. The communicants are the only exception.

@@Self-replicating_whatnot I got the impression that you were saying you can take your priests and, if you can just plug them in, you're good to go. But since there is literally no way to do so, I assumed you must be mistaken about slave matrices. BTW, even if you make a mod unit/commander auto-cast communion slave, it will not plug in if it doesn't have magic.

@@Leiska86 Just to clarify, what i was saying is so long as your priest has at least nominal skill in magic, he's can benefit from communion, whether he's plugged in via spells or matrix. And any kind of slaves you can scrounge up will do just fine boosting him to higher levels of holiness, be that Choir, Communion, Sabbath or Pythium/Phlegra autojoining pawns.

Lucid mentioned a sweaty tactic with fliers that can also apply to kers. In bigger fights, you can put them on guarding commander and have it hold a few times then run, letting you get a lot of buffs onto the kers/other flying units like flying/luck/quickness/strength. Delay also makes it harder for opponent to protect mage line. Bronze colossus is mindless (no soul slay) and has a ton of innate resists, so it's very annoying to kill it if you don't have shatter or smashers on very sturdy thugs (so it doesn't just kill them with shock wave or w/e). That or turn timer it, which will kill due to mindless.

I checked the mod inspector for events because sometimes there are fun national ones. I don't know how to easily see events that aren't tied to specific units, but anyway, there are two that are tied to LA Arco units: - Sibyls can increase dominion by a huge amount (+5) and draw in some slingers to a province. - Once per game you might discover a cerulean warrior had a "personal advisor" who joins you. This is a monkey guru. No new magic that you didn't already have from sibyls, but damn, why not have a White One Vanara fight with you? Both of these events are listed as "common good". The sibyl event is minimum turn 20.

It's annoying enough that phalangites and hoplites look identical. While I'd love for Illwinter to bring out glorious gameplay updates, there's a few sprites they should take a look at sometimes.... You don't need holy levels to be a holy communion slave, just like all other magic paths. Not sure how it would even work if some communion slaves were priests and others weren't. Holy spells will also provide so little fatigue that it doesn't matter that the slaves aren't priests.

A pure H caster cannot be a communion slave, they need to have at least 1 regular point for the spell to work. It's the same as a slave matrix.

@@Bill_Garthright I'm pretty sure the game just bundles up all communion slaves together, regardless of if they are a unit or how they got into the communion, and then counts them up for the master's magic boost. The actual paths (or lack thereof) of the communion slave matter only when fatigue gets determined.

I totally agree on the human late game balance issue. At late gane, as human nation, you just can't take your massive mage core out of your defensive domes. They're forever lab monkey or castle defend units, which won't win you games. I think they need to be limited late game but being almost useless is quite overdo. Unlike strategy ritual spells, imo battlefield combat spells are major fun part of the game and utilizing your magic core is big part of it. At late game, that part of the game is just gone for human nations. Players are forced to pick something Death or Blood path to have a say in the late game, which kill off the possibility of alternative nation builds and greatly limited players creativity. This game has too powerful "win-button" type of counters. Like Arrow Fend to archers, Murdering Winter to human, Foul Vapors to no poison resistance, Heat from Hell/Grip of Winter to no resistance. Once they're online, you just know you already won.

Good guide again, and again my main criticism - no expansion examples for real noobs. Quick note about mages - Sibyls is even less userful, cuz Orphic mystics have same S+D crosspaths but they are also spellsigers, and work much better as D masters. Sibyls not completely useless mages ofc, but very "meh" ones indeed.

@@PerunAU Yes, exactly. For noobs its can be really hard to understand and/or implement expansion properly without proper example. Im sure you seen it at least few times - how inexperienced player failed miserably early one. Especially if its something tricky, like elephant expansion.
